OK, so I wrote the passage below when I was exhausted after being up the past three days without any sleep. Frankly, I'm not sure whether or not I agree with it, but I figured posting my "rant" here would give life to some discussion.
So yeah, I wrote this on no sleep the past three days, keep that in mind before you rip apart my faux-philosophicalism or whatever.
----
Idealism. The thing dreams are literally made of. To think of ideal situations, and wish them to be true.
But what is ideal?
The most common dreams associated with idealism are world peace, the end of world hunger, and to live "the American Dream." But for some, ideal is something completely different. Some dream of uncomparable friends. Some dream of a long healthy lifestyle. Some "simply" dream to love, and to be loved. You wouldn't think love is an idealistic principle, until you get down to this one point.
Everything is a challenge.
To admit that is being realistic, which is perfectly normal. It's a human response to finding something that is universally, or should be universally known.
When two people love each other, they go beyond what is realistic or feasible, and they take the single most idealistic step any man or woman can take. They have faith that no matter where they go, or what they do, that they will be able to work it out, no matter the challenge. In a few words, love is the very definition of ideal.
It's because we dream with such defiance, that we are able to love, and it is because we love that we are human.
So is it a stretch to say that humanity is ideal?
Humanity has come a long ways in the time we've been given. Whether you believe we are here through the process of creation, or are here thanks to the process of evolution, you have to agree on one point. We are human, and we are dreamers. What we choose to dream about is entirely dependent on the individual, and they may choose to do nothing, and close their minds to the thoughts of dreams and hoping for thing beyond what you can logically see.
And that's ok, because in a way, they are also dreaming. What of?
They suppressed dreams, and as such, dream of far grander things than even they can ever truly imagine. They are the greatest idealists of all, whether or not they care to admit it.
It's because of these wide awake dreamers that we are who we are now. A soceity based behind idealism, hidden behind reality.
In a roundabout way, reality shields idealism from both truths and lies, and stays as it has always been. The property of those who dream, the humans.
Reality may be harsh and bitter, but it exists as a reminder of why it's good to have these ideals as well.
