Shoot the rapids is an arcade game. You're in a canoe and going up a river, apparently full of rapids. Your goal is to go from start to finish following a slalom. The game tracks your time and gives you a high score.
Graphics
The graphics are basic and simple, a stick man riding a canoe down a river. The shore is green and the river blue, basic C64 graphics.
Sound
I wasn't a big fan of the music for this game, at least it was consistent throughout the entire game, just your basic "techno" music playing in the background, nothing special.
Addictiveness
I personally found it had the addictiveness of a challenging online game. The type that frustrates you to no end, and yet you just want to beat it. But once you've beaten it, even with the high scores, there doesn't seem like much reason for a replay. It's addictive for all of 20 minutes.
Depth
Only one play mode, the time trial. The river is fairly short and doesn't take long to traverse.
Difficulty
In order to go through the slalom flags you must position your canoe perfectly through them, some are difficult, and some simple, as you start to get the hang of it, this becomes much simpler. However, the controls are a bit annoying (I could never get the backstroke to work). The game requires some practice for sure, but is not impossible.
Overall
If you feel like playing an online game, this one could probably grab your fancy for a while. It takes some getting used to, but all in all, its a decent time killer.
