there are a few different ways.
E.g defragment your harddrive, change what programs run at startup, adding ram if you dont have much, overclocking(i dont recomend that) etc

Overclocking is something that not all motherboards and processors can handle. But basically think of your processor as a series of switches that can either be on or off. Flipping these switches in certain order is what makes your computer do things (This is the origin of binary). But these switches can only move at a certain speed. There are ways you can make them switch faster, but it creates extra heat, this is why most people who overclock their systems use liquid cooling methods.

If you want more information you can read this article, it's got some good information.

Over clocking can be simple or hard. Depending on what your trying to do. A quick OC is to change the FSB (front side bus) in the bios menus, As said before a lot of stock motherboards for dell don't OC or don't like it at all. If you don't have proper cooling you can fry your CPU or fry your motherboards North and south bridges without proper cooling.

Do some research on your board make and model number and google it, I'm sure some people have either tried it already or got a confirmation from someone not too.

Personally I'm happier with simpler stuff. Here's what I do when I want to take a break and clear out as much as I can

1. Update any virus/spyware/malware scanners you have, then run them one at a time. I use AVG Anti Virus, Super Anti Spyware, and Malwarebytes Anti Malware. Super Anti Spyware usually finds a few hundred tracking cookies.
2. Run a disk cleanup.
3. Go to your temp folder and delete everything in it-

Go to the Start Menu and click "Run" then type the following-

%TEMP%

That should open the temp folder. Delete everything then empty the Recycle Bin if necessary.

4. Use Revo Uninstaller to run a more thorough Disk Cleanup. It's a freeware program that I love. Download can be found on their site-

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

5. Run Disk Defragmenter
6. Run Defraggler. It's a freeware program that does a more thorough Defrag. Download can be found on their site-

http://www.piriform.com/defraggler

That's pretty much it. When my computer is running slower this process can take a while, but it's worth it considering how thoroughly it cleans everything out.

My thoughts exactly Bnudge. Virus,Spyware, Malware, And disk clean up should be ran once a week. Defrag once a month. That's what I've been doing for years and rarely ever have an issue.

Download malwarebytes and run a full system scan, remove what it finds. Download CCleaner and remove all clean it all. If it's stil slow try to defrag your hard drive. Do you know your computer specs?

The best thing you can do is get CCleaner and Auslogics BootSpeed. These programs can fix any error on your computer. Also be sure to defrag and use disk cleaner once a week. I do that and it isn't slow anymore.
