Donkey Kong was an arcade machine that was released in 1980. Of there would be a port on the Atari 2600, I just reviewed Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 and it turned out to be pretty mediocre. Let's see how this arcade port really is.

The graphics are simple and primitive and Donkey Kong looks kind of like a bald guy. However the graphics are flicker free which is a great thing. The programmer could of added more color and that's right I said programmer not Atari. You see back then Atari 2600 games were made by only one person. So that's the code, sound, graphics, and controls are all made by one person.

The sound is nothing but a few beeps. What should have been added is that little tune you will hear in the beginning of each level in the arcade version.

This game is not very addicting. Mainly because of the lack of screens there are only two screens the beginning and the end. If you do want to get a high score and write it down (because the game does not save high scores). The game is perfect for stuff like that.
Like I said earlier the game only has two screens I guess that's quite a lot to offer for it's time. Especially since an Atari cartridge can only hold up to 128 bytes which is not a lot of capacity for a cartridge.

Donkey Kong for the 2600 is not very hard. The first level is rather easy, but the second level has some challenge. So for beginners this game has the perfect difficulty.

OVERALL RATING 8.5!!!!

Another good review from you G@mehe@d.I always thought it was weird back then that Nintendo would put their games on other consoles and I never knew Atari games were made by one person.Reminds me how only one guy did nearly all programming for Out of This World with the exception of the music.

Good review although you had a few typos and grammar errors. Nothing serious.

I like Donkey Kong. This port is a little weird because it doesn't include the 2nd stage...at least I don't remember it including it. Which is what made the original game difficult. The music from this version has been used countless times in movies, tv and music though.

Donkey Kong for the Atari is interesting to say the least. Not the best game in the world, but its good for an Atari game. I like it.
