I think it's okay, it not to much to think about considering it's a portable Master System.

It's a pretty good console... With good games, as you said it's just a portable Master System. But, it's still great.

It could have been better, specially at the Battery's duration thing.

It's good, it's got better graphics than the GB and GBC! But, I like the music better on Nintendo's than Sega's! Over all, it's just taking the Sega Master System that you can take anywhere!

I thought the Game Gear was okay. Definetly better than the Genesis: NOMAD that came out in 1996. It had great games but poor battery and a really clunky design. I just wished that Vectorman got an 8-Bit outing like Sonic did but, one can dream, right? It has really good graphics and had a mighty processor. the sound was kinda poor though and it could've been improved but I guess not. It's one of my favourite consoles from the late 80's early 90's period of gaming, since it's such a unique console. But it was way too clunky and to be honest, didn't reallt sell well compared to the mighty Nintendo Game Boy.

The Game Gear is good but I prefer Sega Master System because on the Game Gear, some Game Over screens would scare the living dreams out of you! The Sega Master System versions of the games don't have a very creepy Game Over.

I love it! It has really great games and I'm glad it's back-lit , but I heard it has poor battery life, so... I'd settle for the Sega Nomad.

Stevie 764 : What games do that?

RetroGameNinja : I can give you perfect examples from game gear games I played on SADX for the Gamecube:

Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Sonic Spinball

Those are 3 games I found so far. I don't know anymore from SADX. Mainly because the text is so big is why the Game Overs can instead scare the living heck out of you. :'( Almost as scary as the Zelda 2 Game Over, gave me perma nightmares.

I do like Sega GG. Its something of a step back since the original is 16 bit, and the GameGear is 8 bit handheld. I like its games, they're fun.

I had one when I was a kid the only games I can remember having was Sonic 2, Ren and Stimpy, Baseball game, and X-men. Very good graphics at it's time way back in the 90's.

G@mehe@d : A portable master system? Not really...That's like saying the Gameboy was basically a Portable NES.

The game gear was a great system. I had one back when it was released. It had a nicer screen and it was color. That and the system itself was nice. The only problem with it was that it didn't have the huge 3rd party developer support that the Gameboy did. That is really the only thing that held it back.

Jordanv78 : I said it was like a portable Master System, because it has identical technical capabilities to the Master System, the Game Boy Color is like a portable NES. Just because it has the same technical capabilities.

It was pretty sad that the Game Gear failed because of the lack of 3rd party support. It surprises me because that thing had a color screen and better graphics then the green and black monochrome Game Boy.

G@mehe@d : I'm just saying it's pretty basic to just say "It's a portable master system" because really it isn't. It has different games, and it's a huge stretch to say the gameboy is a portable NES. Sure the Gamegear is 8 bit, but that's really the only thing that's similar. The mastersystem had a LOT more ram than the gamegear did. Just sayin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Master_System#Technical_specifications

Also I liked the gamegear because you could purchase an accessory for it that turned it into a TV tuner. A pretty cool feature for back then that the Gameboy didn't have.

pacman1755 : I'm confused on what you mean here? The game gear was Sega's first handheld that came out in 1991 in NA and the Nomad didn't come out until 95. Sure the Genesis was out then, but 8 bit handhelds were pretty much the top of the tech ladder in the early 90's.

The Sega Game Gear is my favorite hand held. The Game Gear had better graphics than the game boy it, had just as good or better graphics than the nes. The Game Gears has a good controller layout and over all design. It has much better games compared to its competitor's, if you have an adapter you can play Sega Master System games on it witch I find great because I love the Master System. Now the bad. The battery life was not good but much better than the nomad. Its sound messes up all the time, I have had 3 Game Gears that the only way you have to use head phones to hear the sound. The screens are kinda crappy I have had a Game Gear that you have to turn at a 90 degree angle to see any thing, but over all it is very much worth checking out.

It was my favorite handheld, until I bought a 3DS.  The GG's only problem for me was the weak sound, which was a strong point of the Genesis.  But for awesome games like Shinobi, and the Sonics, I never bought a gameboy until the Advance.  I was rockin MKII, doing portable fatalities while GB owners were arguing about Tetris being better than Columns.  Yeah, maybe a little, so what.  8)
