I doubt that there's anyone who's reading this that hasn't played Bingo. To say the least, Bingo is a simple game when you play when it's scorching outside in the middle of August, and your brother comes in the back door sliding on his back after trying to get a tan. I can't imagine how they could turn Bingo into a Game Boy game, but it seems FCI and Locus found a way. --- This... is not Bingo. --- The game starts out with a cat with a bird. Notice the option for a password. Is this some kind of Bingo-like platformer? That would be a risky game choice, it would either be a timeless Game Boy classic, or a complete failure. As you select one-player, you decide if you're playing with numbers or letters... wait, what? Bingo cards have stuff like B17 on them, not just a number or a letter. So, you play as the bird, which is disappointing, I'd much rather be the cat. The cat rushes out of his corner, hitting what seem to be random numbers. All you can do is try blocking him, since most every number you press A or B over do nothing. Sometimes the cat just sits there, watching this bird try to fly out of the number prison. I would suggest just running around pressing A everywhere, but then I figured out you're supposed to hit all of the numbers in alphabetical order. Yeah, that has nothing to do with Bingo, that's like someone yelling out A15 or something, and checking if you have that. That would make a lot more sense than a cat and bird running around counting! But, there's a loophole: one animal has to get 5 in a row vertically, sideways, or diagonally to win. Well, that's... still not Bingo. --- They renamed Power Punch 2, but not this? --- If you lose, the bird gets shot, and the game takes pity on you. Well, this is one of the most childish games I've ever played, and we have a bird getting beat to death? Well, it's not like Duck Hunt is any different, but you enjoy shooting the ducks down because that game is great! But here, it's like a construction yard, this probably had the same fate as Pac-Man on the Atari and Little Red Hood: it wasn't finished before they released it. You'll notice that after the first Game Over, the music seems a lot better. It's actually really good, it reminds me of Mega Man, or that weird Final Fantasy 10 pirate on the Game Boy Color. Aside from the normal number spaces, there's also an occasional spark block that... doesn't do anything besides create a barricade against you, and a black hole which... kills the bird... and it got shot again. Why? Once you know what you're doing, you completely obliterate your opponent. Then, you get a bonus game. You turn a bunch of moles into... drunk birds. Yeah. After a while ,the numbers start to play with your mind, which is extremely irritating. I think I'm going to switch to letters now. --- Crazy option menus? Of course! --- Letter mode is the same thing, just press all the letters in alphabetical order. It took me a while to adjust from numbers to letters, but it doesn't take more than a few seconds, unless you're trying to beat the number mode, I wouldn't know why anyone would be insane enough to even attempt such a mad request. What will confuse you, however, is the fact that they skip one letter per round, since there's only 25 spaces, and sometimes a couple obstacles, they couldn't fit it all. That... is an unnecessary challenge. Level 3 starts you right next to a black hole. What? How am I supposed to know that? It's like that shooter in Action 52, where there's an obstacle as soon as the game begins. I suggest getting the bird killed once, since it gives you a much better song. The bonus is the same in letter mode, simple and pointless. Then we have the potions. There's something like 3 seconds for something, which seems to do nothing, I think it just makes the CPU harder. Ice Stage is like an ice puzzle in Pokemon. You can't move until you hit the next wall... sort of. Sometimes, when your timing is perfect, you can turn around. Hide makes it so that certain numbers are hidden, and you have to just hit them randomly and hope for the best. Why is that even in the game? In Break D... you break dance when you're not moving! Not really, every number is hidden. Brings back memories of the first time you played, right? Mashing A everywhere? Well, I've explained everything I can in this game, so, if you're not shocked by how bad this game is, I'll see you in my next review. --- This... is not Bingo. --- The game starts out with a cat with a bird. Panel Action Bingo isn't what I'd call my favorite game of its series. I'll be honest and say it sucks. Yeah, its a Bingo game..or its suppose to be, but I am not what you would call a big fan of it. |

pacman1755 : I think that someone should make a hack of it, replace the cat/bird sprites with Mario and Luigi, and call it Mario's Early Years 4. This game isn't exactly educational (or bingo) ... but it still would make a decent hack. |
