Strange ways you found out made a game work
Hey, ever wondered if that broken game just needed to have a game help it out?

I've only had one strange moment where I had to think outside of putting disc one in first. Lunar 2's PS1 version wasn't working, and I got it used. I was lucky to even have all the discs for it. I was assuming the game would never work when I tried getting it to play on my PS3 and PS2. I had all the discs resurfaced, and it still wasn't working.

Guess what was working? Making insomniacs like me wonder if I could get the game to work by putting disc 2 in first! I did this on my PS3, and it worked. I put in disc 1 once I was prompted to, and it worked like crap on the PS3, sadly. Guess the PS2 might not be any different in performance, but it made all the difference. Still had to put disc 2 in first, and put disc 1 in once prompted, but it did make all those skipping sounds the PS3 was causing.

The PS2 must have had a better emulation thing for PS1 games, because it has had no skipping issues. Really now. That's kind of odd.

Now share all your experiences with odd ways of getting a game to work.

Well, for SNES and N64 games, (NES games are too deep for this) I find licking the contact points to be effective at getting the games to function. Seriously, it works. Just know electronic contact points don't taste very good.

Unsurprisingly, this doesn't work with disc games. Strange enough, I once got a broken Saturn disc to start reading by opening the tray and spinning the disc myself first before shutting it.

KlawedFlaw I've been told PS1 games are "unresurfaceable," due to the fact that they are formatted like records, the process causes more harm than good. Also, the PS2 does not emulate PS1 games at all. The PS2 isn't powerful enough to emulate PS1 games outright. It has PS1 hardware inside it. The PS3 however, does emulate PS1 games.

(not sure why it make that whole think a link... oh well...)

Toad 004 : It seems every PS1 game I've had given the resurface treatment is the same as before. My dead copy of Spyro the Dragon? Yeah, that didn't get any fixing from a resurface.

Thanks for telling me the PS2 has PS1 parts in it. I didn't know that, and should have. This might explain why the PS1 version of Lunar 2 works better in my PS2. On my PS3, the opening stuff works, but then everything fades to black and becomes messed up. I guess Lunar 2 is just a hard game to emulate...

It's quite unsurprising how a cartridge-based game would work fine even if licked. I should have tried that with the copy of Qix I got that the owner of the game store I frequent that is just a local business ended up having to work on getting to work. Haha.

I might try the spin the disc manually first trick, as well. It obviously won't work for the PS3, but I could break out my PS1 for that.

I had to take one apart because it was all mucked up on the inside. That is probably the weirdest thing I can recall doing to make just about anything work. I took it apart then I put some small dabbles of water.
