I remember a long time ago, a friend of mine gave me a CD which contained almost all the ROMs for the SNES which included the snes9x and ZNES emus. I only wanted it to replay some old classics like Mario Kart and Super Metroid. The disc had everything. One day I decided to play some of the games. One of them was Megaman 9 otherwise known as Rockman & Forte.
When I started up the game, it showed the ever classical Capcom logo with the funny sound effect that it played in Street Fighter 2. Then after a few flashy effects, I started a new game. Oh, one thing. Since this game was never released in the U.S, everything is in Japanese except for the logo, the main menu options, and certain words. This is a pain but eventually I figured how to get to the menus. (Hours later lol)
Then it pulls up a character select screen. Boy was I surprised. Well, knowing that Mega Man only had a stupid charged up buster shot, I chose the other guy, Forte (US Bass). He had the innate ability to dash and double jump, and had a machine gun thingy that could be aimed in 7 directions as well as his own button to dash. Maybe there is a way to change it in the option screen, but I will never know cause I CAN'T READ JAPANESE LOL.
I was sorely disappointed in the easiness of Mega Man X4, but this game was nigh-impossible. The bosses were much tougher than any of them were in X4, even when you were used to their weaknesses. And the most important fact about the boss weapons was:THEY WERE ACTUALLY USEFUL!!! Yes, they were useful!!! I used many of the weapons to kill off enemies quickly before I lost too much life. They didn't have an awkward range, like those in X4, and they weren't all pretty much the same weapon in different elements, like those in Mega Man X. Hmm, maybe I should play more Mega Man games to get an idea of how the boss weapons were, but I haven't, so imagine
my surprise at finding useful boss weapons.
All in all, this is a great game. I just wish that we (USA) got an American release for it. Must be played by the Megaman fan.
