This game stands as one of the crowning games in my retro collection, and was one of my favorite games growing up.

Compared to most games of the gameboy era, the game was very clean looking, and easy to see what you were doing. At times after the color came out, I questioned whether it wasn't in color already, however, on later inspection, it was all grayscale. Only Pokemon could have pulled this off and looked so clean.
Sound- 10
The music is catchy, and has been retuned so many times over the years, countless remixes, and parodies of the many tunes still exist and continue to be made. On it's own the music is good by standards set by the Game Boy, but put the tunes into any pokemon game, and you will feel nostalgic and impressed with it's lasting quality.
Addictiveness- 10
How do you combat childhood's small attention spans? By making one of the single most addicting games of all time. There's not much I can really say. If you argue, just play for yourself, if you are the audience it's dictated to, you will be pulled in.
Story- 5
As good as this game is, I don't really know what to make of the story. You are a kid from Pallet Town, and your goal is to be pokemon champion. Why? Why do you as an 11 year old kid, have the desire to save the world by fighting team rocket? Why don't you ever go home and see your mother? Why the hell does she offer no resistence to an 11 year old boy traveling into the wild? The game doesn't have a story. At least, not a clear one. Maybe you are supposed to sort of decide for yourself.
Depth- 8
Ever try to catch them all?
Difficulty- 3
This game is not hard. Don't try telling me it is. I have beaten every pokemon game from blue to black (not counting the spin off games). This game is tremendously easy if you've ever played a pokemon game before. The controls are beyond simple. It's easy to memorize what type of pokemon a certain trainer has, and their levels, as well as their moves, it's easy to tell what type a pokemon is, as well as catching them. The game offers little challenge but is still fun
Overall - 9.4.
This game is a classic. Play it. You'll thank me. The game is fun, but really easy. It's one of the easiest RPG's on the market, but it's one worth playing.
