Gain Ground is the best game ever made! Seriously this game rocks and I've been schooling friends on it forever. This is a one or two person game (co-op) depending on whether or not you have friends, (in my case victims) where you fight off hoards of enemies that are trying to take over. There are A LOT of levels that get progressively harder. I did mention co-op, but with every enemy you kill, you get points. So the object of co-op is to win, yes, but also beat your friends score. When your character dies, they are left on the battlefield, looking like petrified rock. When you continue the map with your next character, you can go pick them up (save them, yada yada) and exit out the battlefield, effectively saving them. Then you are now able to use them for the remainder of the game until you run out of characters or time on the map. The music in this game is freaking amazing! So addicting that I learned to play the songs on guitar. If this game doesn't look interesting to you. At least play it to hear the music. Great freaking game.
Only a couple knocks on this game.
1. You can only save ONE falling comrade with your next character. Say you have died and selected your next character and are trying to save the dead one. If you die, your recently dead character replaces the last one as the ONLY saveable character on the map. Not cool. I have lost some very important characters journeying to save another. I wish you could save multiple where instead of one dead comrade following you to safety, you could pick up another making it two following you. But what can you do, it's Genesis. Any hackers out there listen up! I kid.
2. I wish there was more of a story, cut scenes or something. Sure the premise is cool, but there is literally no feeling of any story going on whatsoever. And at the end, the mega computer or whatever it is just so, "oh crap, I died" basically. Woo. This game is seriously a gem and worthy of a remake/ sequel and a movie.
That's it really. Play this game.
