Overall - 9.1
Super Mario Bros. 2 is one of the most explorative and underrated NES games ever. A lot of people say "The Lost Levels are alot better we should have got those" or "This is just Doki Doki Panic with Mario slapped on it". Honestly, I don't get why you're being like this. Nintendo wouldn't have released it if it wasn't so close to being a Mario game originally. This game has great graphics, sound, and gameplay, so I don't know what you're complaining about. SMB2 is awesome.
Graphics - 9
The graphics are great. They're not the BEST NES graphics, but they're still up there. This game took full use of the 3-colors-per-8 bit-sprite rule. The Albatosses have SIX sprites. The bosses are animated good, and the scene at the end (where Mario is in bed, sleeping) Looks almost like it was hand-drawn. My only complaint is: WHY IS TOAD BLUE?!?!
Sound - 10
The music in this game is very catchy, and unique. The sound effects are not repitive, unlike some of the crappy games I've reviewed. This music is composed by Koji Kondo, the man who made the classic Mario theme. The final boss music always reminded me of the CastleVania death theme.
Addictiveness - 9
The way that these levels are so big and so diversegive the game a feel that coud only be replicated by a 3-D game, or an overhead game. But it's not. It's a side-scroller. With doors, mazes, and puzzles, this game is exploration-based in so many ways, it's undescribable. Every time I replay the game, it feels like a fres, new, experience.
Story - 6
This game's story is weird. Here's me trying to explain it: Mario has a dream about going through Subcon and saving it from Wart. He goes on a picninc with Luigi, Toad, and Peach to talk about his dream. He went in some random cave and opened a door, and he saw exactly what happened in his dream. *plays through game* PLOT TWIST! The game was actually a dream. A dream inside a dream. Paradox, much?
Depth - 9
As I've said before, this game is full of puzzles, mazes, and platforming. It;s a really big game, and I don't even think I'VE explored all of it. The enemies, bosses, and unique character abilities are just some of the amazing things in this game. I'm sure this could of been turned into a 3-D game. I cross my fingers that a Super Mario 3D Land 2 will be made, and that it will have this game combined with 3-D elements.
Diffuculty - 6
Although this game is fun, it is hard. I seem to have a bit more trouble with this game than usual, but it has some difficult parts. Some hard parts are when you have Bob-ombs, the Mushrooms in World 6-2, and the Trouter/log jumping in 5-1 (or is it 5-2?) Either way, this game is a bit challenging, but nothing major.
Conclusion
This game is awesome, but it is underrated beyond all belief. I hope that one day, people wise up and see the greatness is Super Mario Bros. 2. This isn't one of my favorite Mario games, or one of my favorite side-scrolling games, but it's one of my favorite NES games. If only everybody appreiciated this game like me.
