Could a superhero game actually be good? Let's find out.....
Graphics: Once you have a save file there is a quick loading screen (maybe 2 seconds) and you are dropped into a huge city. You can go from the ground to the top of the Empire State Building and back down to the ground with no loading whatsoever. Spiderman himself is done very well. His animations are fluid and there is rarely if ever any slow down. The draw distance is pretty good you can notice it a bit if you go up the tallest buildings in the game, otherwise you won't ever notice it. The graphics aren't perfect but for the time they were made they are great.
9/10
Sound: The Muxic is done very well, you can here the Spiderman theme occasionally. Voice overs are done very well. They all have the Spiderman feel. Any characters that are in the movie are done by their respective actors (i.e. Kirsten Dunst is Mary Jane's voice). The jokes from Spiderman are delivered well. The punching and kicking sound effects are well done and give you a nice sense of 'oomph". Webslinging sounds like it should.
9/10
Gameplay: WOW, this is probably one of the games I've had the most fun with. Even after beating it I would come back and just swing around the city for half an hour or so. Swinging around the city feels perfect. The fighting system is very well done offering quite a few combos and some very cool ways to get rid of opponents. My personal favorite is letting a person hang from a lampost and then using them as a punching bag. There is very little you can't do. You can run around on the ground for a bit climb of the side of a building and then swing around as much as you want. Here is the control scheme for the Cube version.
A= Jump (hold to charge)
B= Punch
Y= Tap to disarm someone, hold to trap them in webbing
X= Dodge when Spidey Sense tells you to.
R= Webline
L while walking= Run
L while websling= Web Zip line
L+Y= Impact Webing
Y+ ^,V,<, or > = hit an enemy with webbing and then throw them in that direction, V brings them toward you.
Y (hold) then X= Grab someone to which you can punch them, throw them, or jump up in the air and piledrive them into the ground.
10/10
Value: The plot follows the movie to a point but throws in several other villians to give you more to do. Completionist will have a field day collecting all the hint markers, secret markers, skyscraper markers, bouy markers, and doing the bonus missions. Beating the game won't last you too long but getting everything will take you quite a while. If you like Spiderman this game will probably be one of the best (I'm pretty sure the price is right) $20 you will spend on Videogames. It is definately one of the best superhero games ever.
10/10
Final: 9.5/10
What are you waiting for if you like Spiderman go and pick it up.
