So last night, or yesterday morning for those of you back in the states, we had a show here in KAF. A few celebrities came to Afghanistan for a little tour and went to most, if not all FOBs (Forward Operating Bases) here. They came to our base last night. It was a group of about 6 of them:
Lance Armstrong, who was the MC for the show
Female comedian, forgot her name
Country singers- Kix was one name, maybe some of you know him/that band
Lewis Black, who did awesome stand-up comedy
and Robin Williams, who put on an epic performance.

I was probably six rows from the stage. Let me tell you, getting a show for free and being able to sit so close is great. A spot like that at a comedy show in the states would have cost an arm. Maybe a leg, too. The all let loose with the jokes. Really. So far as to let Robin Williams use a water bottle to simulate jizzing during his sex jokes. It was a very good show. After everything was over, and after waiting around for 30 minutes, Robin comes back out of the preparation tent to shake hands, autograph things and take pictures. Apparently he's well known to do this until the last fan leaves. Awesome guy. He really likes his fans, and likes what the military does. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture with him. I was in a good spot, but as soon as he came around people behind me had their arms in front of my face desperately trying to give their cameras to the people around him so they could take their picture with him. He did the person next to me and then somehow skipped me, going to the next. That sucks. I don't blame him for it. It's a lot of people, and it was pretty cold outside. I don't think he wanted to stay out all night and he has to please a lot of people. I'm sure I'm not the first person to have gotten skipped over, being in a good position. Hm. Anyway, here are the pics. I only got one of Lewis Black and a couple of Robin because I was recording video of their time on stage, even though we weren't allowed to.

Oh, forgot mention Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was also there, with his wife.

Lance Armstrong. He made a joke about how the French troops might be mad at him being there since he's dominated the Tour de France so many times. He then asked if there were any French soldiers in the audience. There was only one.




Female Comedian, I'll get back to you all with her name. I'll also say that for a female comedian she was really good. And I had my doubts.




Lewis Black. As mentioned, only one pic because I was recording video.


Kix and forgot the other guy's name. I'm not a country fan, but they sang pretty good and even had my foot tapping.

If you ever join the military and get deployed over seas know that your chances of having a celebrity visit your base at least once during your tour is 99% It even happened when I was in Korea from '08 to '09. Met and got a picture with David Hasslehoff.

That is awesome that you got to see such a great show. It's pretty cool of those celebrities to do that and tell you guys thank you for all you do. You guys deserve that, and much more.

It was planned event, but I didn't know about it until that morning while we were doing PT. And that was Robin's 4th or 5th time here. He said he remembers the boardwalk (the place where the event was held) having barely anything there the first time he came. And he also joked and commented on the poop pond, too.

That's really great when celebrities and athletes do that kind of stuff. The pictures you posted aren't displaying.

Hm, that's cool. I think Robert Williams is pretty funny... you're lucky to have met him.

Whoa, that's awesome. Mainly the Robin Williams part, I love Robin Williams, he's hilarious. And so is Lance Armstrong.

Must have been great fun. I have been to only two comedy shows myself, one was held on the cruise I was on (Alaskan cruise) and another in Las Vegas. But that is really cool that you got to see those people, my favorite being Robin Williams. I would love to get an autograph from him let alone shake hands.

Well anyway this is still really cool to have all of those people visit the base. I would have been kind of honored that they were they to tell me that they like what I am doing. That would be a very special thing for me.
