What do you think jesus did when he was growing up? It dont say much in the bible what he did when he was a boy and a teenager or in his 20's. So what do you think he did?

that's a tough one.... you have the incident at the temple where he teaches. But I think that is more of an anomaly than it being the standard thing. I figure his childhood and on was fairly normal.

My reasons for thinking this is that when he returns home after starting his ministry the people look at him and think "isn't this just the carpenters son?" They were surprised when he started teaching them religious doctrine.... so I figure he didn't do any of that while growing up.

I heard of some stories that were left out of the Bible because he was a little naughty as a child. I remember hearing that once he was playing with a friend and he died. Everyone accused Jesus of killing the boy. He then brought him back to life and asked the boy if he was the one that killed him. The boy said no.

"He then resurrected him"

wrong choice of words. No one was resurrected before Jesus was. He simply raised the boy from the dead.

I imagine he got really good at magic tricks! I just kinda assumed he learned carpentry, based on the society of the time, he would have followed his father's footsteps and learned the trade.

As a note, I am not Christian but, I like learning about all religions and as long as everyone shares an open mind and tolerates other points of view (and possibly some humor), I'll be happy

I think he played video games all day. Just kidding. I think he probably was helping out others and doing good for his village.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit naughty as a child. I mean... He was a child, after all. I'm pretty sure his childhood was that of a typical Jew at the time. I doubt he did much teaching before he was an adult. As far as teenager goes, that time of a human's life was considered adulthood. For one, the reproductive organs are able to create children by the time you're at least 15. It was about baby making back then.

His teenaged years could have easily been that of an adult's. It's pretty obvious that he was a carpenter.

KlawedFlaw : Ooh that's a good point. Back then, you didn't become an adult and assume responsibilities at 18, 21, or 25, you did it when you were 15!

NotJon : I'm just using what I know from the times before children and teenagers lived at home until 18. There's never a mention of Jesus saying, "Come here, teenager!" There's never any note of teenagers in the Bible. Mary was a teenager, I believe. She was technically an adult, though. I'm 15, and almost 16. I don't even wanna imagine how crazy Jesus was in her placenta. Good Odinn... He may have been peaceful after he popped out, but just imagine how hyper he was in there...

God probably had some fun with the process. I can imagine. I mean... God made me... I was kicking in my mom's placenta like crazy... Jesus appeared to enjoy running off and being smart, too. I'm being a smart aleck there, but still. He runs off from his family, and the only thing in mind is teaching. That's pretty funny when you think about it.

I know he was God's son, but still, I doubt even God would be at a Passover, and let that kid run wild. If God was the guy there, he'd be telling the kid to stay put, and eat his kosher food like a good boy. Let's hope Jesus doesn't ding dong ditch us in Heaven.

KlawedFlaw : In my sociology class we were discussing how people now are less responsible and hard working as we were back then. The advent of technological advancements allowing tasks once requiring physical labor and many workers, can now be done by machines or through a computer. The media also gives us impressions of a variety of things such as how we need to be taught, how we need to love, etc. This all adds up to the new generations becoming more and more non-self-reliant and to put it bluntly, babies (there I said it). Teenagers take even longer to grow up now. My Grandmother got a job at 13. I'm 18 and I have yet to even apply (for real) for a job.

I would think that he just helped out around his village and helped out others when they needed it.

He most likely lived like anyone else in his day, being a carpenter by trade and when off duty, possibly going out with some of his boyhood friends to see a play, since there is evidence of a theater not to far off from Nazareth.

It says all over the Bible how Jesus was the only perfect, sin-less person ever to walk the face of the Earth. But, I wander if that's just referring to his adulthood? I do not know.... he'd be one unique teen to never look lustfully at a girl and such.... But I guess that's based on how you defy a sin..... I dunno. Sadly I don't think we'll ever know what Jesus' childhood was really like.

personally, I don't much think it matters, to be perfectly honest. scripture doesn't go into detail, and there is probably a very good reason for that. The important part of His earthly life was His ministry and Crucifixion, not what He did when He was 5. I'm fairly certain He was a normal, albeit perfect, child. Again, remember, the people of Nazareth were somewhat taken aback by the idea of the "carpenter's son" engaging in a public ministry and teaching with authority.

Just my two cents.

I agree with everyone else. I think Jesus just lived a normal life as a boy without sin, and didn't do anything remarkable until he was an adult.
