I'm not trying to cause trouble or anything, but I read over a thread posted in the christian section. It was about how the Flying Spaghetti Monster and the Invisible Pink Unicorn were parodies Of religion. That is not entirely true. They are also satires. Here are links to the Wikipedia on the IPU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Pink_Unicorn
and the FSM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_spaghetti_monster

Do you realize that it is not so much making fun of your religion as showing the inherent flaws?
Maybe if you can't think of something to post on my thread, you shouldn't post on it?

yeah, I've got to side with Bobby on this one... if you have nothing to say... then don't post in here.

I particularly like the FSM, or at least the case in which it was used. I'm really not sure why creationism from a Christian perspective deserves equal time in -science- classes. If religions want to teach their own form of the origin of the world then so be it. At most creationism could be mentioned as an alternative theory to the origins of the Earth/Universe/humanity but I don't see why it deserves equal time. The FSM argument makes a good case against giving any religion time in a science class room.

By my interpretation it is a parody of religion.

A parody is a comical exaggeration of something to show it's flaws.

The FSM is a parody by taking the base principle (or flaw) of religion, belief in something that you cannot prove, and it exaggerates by making the thing that is believed in absurd.

The statement that the parody is making is:

"Someone told you a man in the sky made everything and you believe them. You wouldn't believe them if they said it was a FSM; so, why do you believe them at all."

Or

"Your theory of God has no proof. My theory of a FSM has no proof; Therefore, they are equally valid."
