So, I was hanging out in my yard playing with bubbles with my daughter and I noticed a wasp fly into my bbq. I thought that was a little strange but figured it was simply lost and would fly back out in a few minutes.

I then got worried because I hadn't used or opened my bbq since we moved a couple weeks ago so I figured I would take a quick peak inside. I opened the lid and saw a small wasp nest hanging from the main grill. I quickly shut the lid and grabbed my daughter and ran for my back door to get away from the onslaught of angry wasps. Thankfully I got inside without attracting any attacking wasps.

I then proceeded to put on as much clothing as possible so that only my head/face were exposed and I opened the bbq lid again. I figured the nest was small enough that there couldn't be too many wasps yet. I decided to puck up the grill and smash the nest and then run for my life. I did so and was lucky to escape unscathed back into my house.

I watched from the window as 1 wasp flew around angrily. That's right.... 1. I watched for several minutes waiting for more to emerge or return.... but none did. Turns out I had gotten to the nest just in time. Instead of dealing with a lot of angry wasps it turns out that I only had a queen to deal with. I went back outside equipped with a modest sized dust pan to attack the lone wasp. I successfully smacked it out of the air and proceeded to stomp it to death. I then disposed of the wasp across the fence.

I decided it was smart to check the nest for eggs/other wasps. I didn't anything that looked like an egg or a wasp inside so I through out the nest as well and went back inside.

Not really much of an adventure.... but it sure scared the crap out of me when I realized I had a wasp nest in my bbq. That just doesn't happen all the time

That is scary and creepy.

It sucks that you don't get to eat BBQ for dinner, or did you make more somewhere else? I hope that you and your family were okay and that you have better nights then this strange happening. It is nice to see that you are okay.

well, did you read the part where only 1 wasp came out?

It wasn't a very large nest at all. More shocking to find it in the bbq than anything.

I had no intention of bbq'ing for dinner either.... I don't bbq very much which explains why the wasp was able to set up camp in the first place

Wow, that is shocking to find a wasp nest in your bbq.

You sir, are a lucky man that you only dealt with a queen and not a swarm of angry wasps.

Just a question, are you allergic to wasps?

nah, I'm not allergic. I'm sure the areas they stung would get all red and swollen, but I figure that's what happens to most people. I also figured since my bbq sits 2 feet away from my back door that I could smash the nest and get to the door with minimal damage.

Wow, very lucky there Geeo. It would've sucked horribly if there were a whole bunch of wasps. I agree with you though, it's not every day you find a wasp nest in your bbq.

"Not really much of an adventure.... but it sure scared the crap out of me when I realized I had a wasp nest in my bbq. That just doesn't happen all the time "

That is totally an adventure of epic proportions! It was a death defying adventure to dethrone a tyrant queen who had usurped the poor oppressed BBQ grill. It wasn't merely a grown man destroying a meager insect's life's work and physical manifestation of all it's hopes and dreams. No, not at all, lol.

Wasps will pretty much make a nest anywhere, so I'm actually not too surprised about it being in a barbeque. The weirdest place I've found a nest around my house was in the rubber stopper for the sliding glass door that leads to the patio. There's a tiny hole in it, and wasps began going in and out of that hole and eventually a nest started forming around it. It was kind of sad that all I had to do to get rid of it was open the door all the way, LOL.

so I think the wasps are fighting back

I found one in my house today.... I managed to trap it under a cup and I'm waiting for it to die in there. Yeah, great karma boost for me right? .

But I don't care.... they invaded my bbq and I'm just defending my territory!

Hah, nice adventure
I remember there was a fairly large wasp nest at a friends house once and I was over there and they just lit it on fire.
It looked pretty amazing

When I first moved into my new house, there happened to be a window that was not opened for some time. When it was finally open, there were 2 or 3 wasp nests inside. Luckily I think maybe one was active, the others were empty.
