Some of you may notice the SQL error that comes up once in a while. Usually I get to restarting the SQL server within an hour but this usually causes the site to be down for 1 or more hours.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I have just fixed this problem, we'll see though. Basically what I did is I set it so that when the SQL server goes down, the server automatically restarts the SQL server so that I don't have to be here to restart it myself. If the SQL server is still down after 2 failed attempts of restarting it, it'll just restart the server and that will almost always fix the problem.

If anyone notices that SQL error come up leaving the board inaccessible (after this fix I just did), please let me know.

This has happened a few times for me lately, it fixes itself within seconds though. But it's obviously being caused due to the huge increase in traffic, I'll have to spend some time this week optimizing the site, the RGR Game Pages are probably causing a lot of strain, they take a while to load too

I think there might come a time when the board itself and the RGR need to be on different servers.

Cause the board could work amazingly well on a very small/weak server compared to what the RGR needs.

Just tossing the idea out there.

I would hold off on upgrading a server this is most likely a optimization issue that can be fixed.

I think its more of an SQL issue then server issue. Server seems fine, I think I would split the database in 2. Make a new database specifically for the RGR.

Doing this would not really fix the strain on the server BUT it would fix the strain on the database and that is the issue here. So optimizing the queries is one option or you can create a new database and see how that goes.

JigSaw : Having many tables in a single database usually isn't that much strain, the db strain usually comes when you've got 100,000s of entries in a single table. I'm not sure if that's the case here or not but I'll look into it more tomorrow.

Those errors joe got are all related to same issue. I've seen those a lot before when the old server keep going in and out constantly.

Their has been a lot lately, usually about 50-75 at a time and each one goes through 1000s of pages in just a few hours. I've noticed that a lot of them get stuck in the RGR Search Engine so I plan to upgrade that today.

Here's what I plan to do with that:
If you're searching for 'Pokemon', it'd only display the letters which have Pokemon games. So if there were no games under 'A' than that link would not be clickable.

The decrease should not harm vizzed much decreasing it by 50% still gives vizzed the same bot activity it had a few days ago. So hopefully those sql errors will disappear for a while
