As of yesterday, my fiancee and I are under contract to buy a house in Central Florida! Our closing date is May 2nd, but we won't actually be able to move down there until the beginning of June for work-related reasons.

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, just under 1900 square feet, built in 2004. We flew down to see it last week and everything seems to be clean, functional, and in good shape. Can't wait to move in!

Congratulations, it is now theoretically possible for me to reach your location on foot without giving up from boredom.

That's awesome dude!

What brings you to central flordia? Long way from where you've spent your life.

Make sure to get a home inspection done before final closings, and enjoy your new home!

Barathemos: Thanks! Our real estate agent is setting up the inspection right now, will probably be done some time next week.

It's gonna sound lame, but Disney World is the biggest reason. Kenzie and I met while working there, we loved being able to go to the parks (and also Universal) on our days off, and after spending some time living where she grew up and where I grew up, we decided that we liked Florida the best. Kenzie also plans to go back to Disney for work. The dream is for her to get a job as a waitress at literally any of the restaurants. They are all fully booked with reservations nearly every day of the year, and the food isn't exactly cheap. Full-time servers at Disney make six figures in tips. She'll probably have to start in a different role, though, and wait for a server position to open up.

My job is remote, so I can work from anywhere, and Florida is kind of the "best of both words" of where each of us grew up. Where Kenzie grew up is very affordable to live, but there is nothing to do. Rural, middle of nowhere, boring. Long Island has a lot more people and a lot more going on, but it is way too expensive. Central Florida is much cheaper than Long Island (the house we bought would cost $650K+ here, with at least $12,000 a year in property taxes), but has way more to do than rural Pennsylvania. Obviously you have the theme parks, but we're also only about an hour from Tampa, and fewer than two hours from either coast.

And of course the weather is a plus as well. Yeah, the summers can be brutal in terms of both heat and humidity, but the weather is beautiful from October to April, and I am perfectly ok with never having to shovel snow again for the rest of my life.

Oh, and no state income tax. That's pretty cool too.

tgags123: October to April is way too cold, the other months are nice. I do like how I never have to deal with snow over here though. Also, it's a bit funny how I've lived in Orlando for a little under a decade, yet barely go to the Didney Whirl.

MrKokoPudgeFudge: Dude, you have to be a reptile or something lol. I've never heard anyone say that they like the summer in Florida before. So hot, so humid.

tgags123: I'm from a place which has similar weather to here and you're not, so it probably has something to do with that. Different genetics make different reactions to weather.

I remember this time the AC got busted at school, and everyone else was complaining about how hot it was, while me and my Egyptian friend were just chilling lol.

MrKokoPudgeFudge: Fair. I went to college in upstate New York, and I had a roommate my freshman year who was from Mumbai, India. He wore jeans and a sweatshirt in August, when it was in the 80s. He was in for a rude awakening when winter hit.
