Mega Man X5 as I have mentioned had a lot of unique and interesting characters in it. Some characters where evil from the get go. While others where more like victims. Squid Adler also known as Volt Kraken is another X5 character that is more of a victim than an evil one. What is Squid Adler's story? I am going to explain about him in my new biography, so lets learn about Squid Adler.

Appearance wise: Squid Adler is based off of the mythical Kraken. He is also based off of a giant squid. His colors are mainly blue, white and gray. His tentacles are mostly grayish blue and are long. His armor is a mix of blue, gray, and white.

Squid Adler has been around for a long time possibly over a century. He was around when the events of X1 took place. He was the brother of Launch Octopus and part of the 6th naval unit. He was friends with officers and commanders X and Zero. In fact, he looked up to his high ranking friends. His brother joined Sigma when Sigma became a maverick. This was after the original virus left Zero and merged with Sigma creating the Sigma virus. Sigma raged his war and a lot of the hunters followed him including Launch Octopus. However, Squid Adler did not join the rebellion. Instead he stayed with X, Zero and the few others to stop Sigma's rebellion.

However, this put him against his brother. He could not stand the thought of having to kill his own brother even though his brother was a maverick. Eventually X and Zero killed Octopus. Squid Adler temporarily held a grudge against X and Zero. Deep down he knew it had to be done though and it was their job. Squid started questioning his purpose. He had seen his brother join Sigma, seen his brother get killed, and started to feel guilty about not being able to save his brother.

Eventually Squid left the Maverick Hunters on good terms. He lived a peaceful life working in an electric research lab and power plant. He eventually was given complete control over the lab/power plant. His role at this point was providing electricity and electric energy to the Earth when it was in a crisis. He also provided energy after natural disasters. However, Squid's happy life would come to an end.

At some time he acquired an Energy cart needed to power the laser weapon that the hunters where going to try to destroy the space colony with. Sigma had set the colony to crash into Earth. In the meantime Sigma spread his virus all around the globe. The virus soon started to impact Squid's electric plant effecting the workers and eventually himself.

He is confronted by X and Zero about the situation and how they need the energy cart. He actually agrees to give it to them. But before he can he is infected by the virus. X and Zero felt bad about it but they put him out of his misery. X and Zero realized there was nothing they could do to save their former comrade from the virus.

Here is his conversations with X and Zero.

X (first time)

X Squid Adler will you do me a favor
Adler: Is this how you greet me after all of these years. Not even a nice to see you, or how you doing. How rude, you haven't changed at all.
X please give me the energy cart
Adler: You are welcomed to take it. Even if you get it can you really save the world. Every reploid including this plant has become ma.....rrr...i..cc..k
X No he has been infected.

X (Second Time)
Adler: Why have you come here cannot you see I'm infected
X: I have lost another comrade and friend.
Adler: ha ha ha you will die here and I will avenge you my brother Octopus

Zero (First Time)
Adler: I never expected you here it must be an emergency
Zero : You are right now give me the energy cart
Adler: Oh so pushy you have never changed at all.
Zero : Oh come on you know I cannot stand your babbling
Adler: You can have this worthless item. But can you change anything every reploid has become a ma...rrr..ii..ck
Zero : No he has been infected Relax Adler I will put you out of your misery goodbye my friend.

Zero (Second Time)
Adler: what are you doing here. Your hear to kill me just like you did my brother
Zero : Oh No he has become a maverick. Hold on Squid this will not take long and it will be over goodbye.

In another transcript X and Zero apologize to Squid about destroying Octopus. Adler says: Don't worry it was your job he became a maverick. I decided to retire and try to serve elsewhere. However, every reploid has become a maverick including me. Please put me out of my misery.

Personality Wise Adler seems to be a capable leader as he runs the energy plant he is over with ease. Also considering he was a naval officer also meant he had soldiers under him demonstrating he is a good leader. However, Adler shows he is haunted by past events. Mainly the death of his brother. Also considering he has been around since X 1 this likely means he saw the events of X2, Dr. Doppler becoming a maverick and the war between the hunters and repliforce. It is shown he can hold grudges as for a while he held a grudge against X and Zero. However, he overcame this grudge when he realized they were just doing their job. Given that zero said I'm just tired of your babbling. It is implied Squid may have been or is a talker. His conversations are long so this is most likely true that he is a talker.

Unlike other mavericks it appears that Squid shows some empathy. He was going to give the hunters his energy cart before he became a maverick. In addition, it also seems like he has some moral about him. Even when he retired as a hunter he still wanted to do good for humanity and believed reploids and humans could exist without war. He may not be for war as long as its not justified. As he did not participate in the X Hunters war against the hunters, and he did not participate in the Repliforce war. He shows he does have morale about him when he ask X and Zero to kill him because he has become a maverick. He wants to be put out of his misery before he becomes a danger.

Attacks: Being an electric character Adler is a very tough opponent. He has several powerful attacks. Tri-Thunder Attack. Squid will shot three electric balls. When fully charged electric spheres will move around the floor and on the walls. Tackle Attack Adler will try to attack the player and shock them with his tentacles. Grand Lightning Spark: Adler will create a powerful bolt of lightning. He also can create lightning at will. When he starts losing health he super charges his attacks.

His weakness is the Water weapon. The water weapon causes him to short circuit temporarily. This causes him to be stunned and leaves him open for attacks.

In my opinion Squid Adler is one of three mavericks that the game wants the player to have sympathy for. The others being The Skiver, and Axle the Red. Adler is often considered a victim in the Maverick Wars. This is because after his brother's death he resigned and still severed humanity. He was doing a good job providing electricity before the virus made him a maverick. Thus X and Zero had to destroy him. The fact that he even ask to be put of his misery before he turns deadly makes you think this guy was a victim. It should be noted the Skiver also ask to be put out of his misery rather than become a maverick. I also think he is a maverick that was designed to make the player feel sorry for him just like the Skiver and to some extend Axle the red. Axle hides because he was created out of a mutation. He is just trying to survive. The Skiver survived a tragic war and was doing good until the virus infected him. Squid, has been through several tragedies only to get infected himself.

He is also one of my favorites from Mega Man X5. This is because he uses a meteorological natural event as his attack. His attack is mostly lightning. Being a Meteorologist I like thunderstorms, so having a character use lightning as an attack is a nice touch. This is also why I like the Skiver as the Skiver uses wind for his attacks. Overall, he is one of my favorites from this game. This concludes my biography of Squid Adler.
