So this week is going to be an interesting week as both Barbie and Oppenheimer are both going to open this week, so who is seeing what and who is actually going to take in a double feature at an AMC theatre (we don't get to do that in Canada as there aren't any AMC theaters up here)

Both are going to be awards season bait (I expect Barbie to get both Oscar and Razzie attention it will probably get Oscar love for Costume design and well designing that dreamhouse) I don't expect the Barbie movie to be good, I expect to have fun watching it

I saw both and I liked Barbie way more than Oppenheimer because the latter just felt a lot slower and dragged on a bit at times. Barbie was very unexpected because there were many themes that you would have never thought would be there plus the humor was really good.

Well I was right about one thing, both films are awards season bait, but I liked the Barbie movie more than I ever could have imagined

Well thankfully the Razzie's knew better than to include Barbie as among the worst (but people are screaming that the Oscars are proving that the Barbie movie was right about a thing)

I get people are upset because Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig didn't get the important nominations but Robbie was a producer on the film so she's still up for something and Gerwig wrote the screenplay so she's up for that, and I actually predicted on facebook that America Ferrera would get a sleeper nod for her role in the Barbie movie and I'm really happy about that since at the end of that all I could think was "Betty Suarez lives" because that monologue felt like something you could have heard in an episode of Ugly Betty (which by the way don't forget she won an emmy for)

I'm more disappointed that Once Upon a Studio didn't get nominated though I didn't expect to cry during that short (but then again I didn't expect myself to cry at the end of the Barbie movie either, I can't wait to see I'm Just Ken be performed live

I"m not much of a movie person. I have not seen any of the movies. However, a lot of my friends took their kids to see the Barbie movie. A lot of them did not like it and thought it was lame. Others though it was okay but nothing special. As for Oppenheimer a lot of my friends went to see it and liked it. Even though it is not accurate its interesting since it is about World War II and the Atomic Bomb. Based on what Opperheimer is about. I think I would really like it since I like history and as a scientists. Part of the Manhattan project was actually worked on in my state.

Barbie had a lot of fun moments (especially "I'm Just Ken" which I still listen to on occasion) and certainly had some things to think about regarding social commentary. I like how it helped both genders understand each other's struggles and frustrations regarding gender roles.

Oppenheimer however, was a different beast altogether and is certainly my favorite movie of the year (nudity aside). It was certainly dialogue heavy and I understand how it could be boring for many who want more action in their movies. I love the way the movie portrays Oppenheimer as someone who was simply in pursuit of the impossible and ambitious to make scientific history with little to no regard of the actual war itself, then once the bombs are used he is overriden with guilt and horror at what he has made. The way they depict his guilt feels so real and authentic and you can almost feel the insurmountable weight he is feeling.
