So Today I filmed a gameplay of Nancy Drew Ghost Dogs at Moon Lake so I figured I might as well post a review for Treasure in the Royal Tower....so unless my feet get mysteriously warmed up I won't be reviewing any more Nancy Drew Games unless I play other Nancy Drew Games. So, Once again we get a Nancy Drew game that was based on one of the books 
 
Gameplay and Story: Based on the Book of the same name (except once again Bess and George stay home) Nancy arrives at a Wisconsin Castle for a Ski Vacation only for a blizzard to set in (and it doesn’t end until after you get hit on the head by the suspect) she’s told by the caretaker that she has free run of the place except the Library as someone vandalized it the previous night and someone broke into another guests room, the suspects also include a photo journalist, a Ski Instructor that humiliated himself at the Olympics, and a professor who has a theory about Marie Antoinette that could change history (this is kind of important to the game because she spent a lot of time in one of the towers just as the revolution was breaking out, not to mention the ski instructor’s great grandfather was head of construction of the dissembling of the tower from France, and the caretaker was actually a former resident of the castle, he was the adopted son of the gentleman that built the castle and let’s just say that the Wickford castle story gets complicated from there) so basically it’s up to Nancy to figure out who the vandal is and assist the burglary victim (it’s actually worthwhile considering you help re-write history...hmm funny we actually see or rather hear from the professor two more times in the series and yet she hasn’t brought up the Marie Antoinette saga once) but beware the big bad may leave you out in the cold or trap you in an elevator 
 
Graphics: The graphics are definitely upgraded, all of the suspects no longer look like they had plastic surgery nor do they move like a robot, also the tutorial screen in the game is the screen we are stuck with for a good chunk of the franchise (at least until Secret of Shadow Ranch when the screen got bigger) 
 
Soundtrack: Well at least one piece of background music kind of reminds me of Coldplay’s Clocks....and this game came out before that song did like two years before, and man how many computer games are there out there that makes use of a Harpsichord, and stringed instruments mostly Violin 
 
Addictive: Once I was able to progress successfully in the game then it became more fun (it’s always most annoying if we are stuck in an early part of the game, however when I renewed some partial interest in the games it never made its way back into rotation, but maybe I will play it once more for gaming season because I don’t own any games after...okay I do own a couple of games after game 11 but I’ve never played them, I actually have cold feet about playing them, as I had heard horror stories about Fox and Geese there’s always that one puzzle in the newer games that would scare me out of playing it  (hell I'm not fond of the ice shaving puzzle in the game either, I'm a perfectionist I'm not fond of getting my butt kicked out of the game for a mistake, which is a shame a good chunk of it looks fun)
 
Depth: Well I haven’t played the game in years, but someone on youtube finished it in less than 90 minutes, probably because they skipped the elevator scene and didn’t spend time talking on the phone or waste a lot of time talking to Lisa, also this was early in the run no task list or checklist or notebook
 
Difficulty: Difficult at first I had trouble getting past the library security, thank god for the Her Interactive Hint boards, I don’t think anything else killed me though, however I did come close to freezing to death outside, and the maintenance shed was no help it was essentially an ice box and I actually did get stuck with the tower puzzle like badly but I eventually got through that, basically a helpful hint is saving the game before starting the puzzle 
 
Post review follow up: Well this game is not among my favourites but this was just okay, at least the franchise got better after this one 

Something I wish I had brought up: it's a shame that we can't eat anything in this game because the stuff on the menu in this game that we have to give to Professor Hotchkiss looks good.....what is a White Cheddar Ice Cream log anyway? I'm sure they meant to say White Chocolate but I guess it was too late and it became a running joke in the franchise

I do not think I remember this game. Sounds like it would be a fun one to play. To me this sounds like the clue type school games I played when I was a lot younger. In those games you had to search for clues, while solving problems as well as puzzles. If you completed them you would get a new clue or uncover more evidence. In addition, this game kind of sounds like a who done it type game as well. I remember playing some of them when I was a lot younger. These types of games and similar ones were fun back in the day.

I guess this game came out later that is probably why I do not remember it like I do some of the other clue, problem solving and treasure games.

yeah I don't think the public school system allowed Nancy Drew games even though she had books it wouldn't be part of any curriculum

classgame: That is probably why I don't remember it. It also says this game came out in 2001. That is another reason. Even if it had been allowed in school systems I would have been in 9th grade. Once in Middle and High school I only played games that I had at home due to homework.
