And now it's TdV season, where you will be seeing alot of me posting for the month of July, if I'm not too busy....which is why I had to pre-write most of mine (I just hope it doesn't give me grief like the MMPR the movie review did). So now we come to a rather obscure title that I’m sure no one else knows exist, in fact the steam version had to be added to this site
Gameplay and Story: Okay Bullwinkle is hosting a trivia game show with Rocky being one of the team members for Wassamatta U and the narrator of the series being the announcer, and there are three teams of three which is captained by an avatar of random people who weren’t in either the Rocky show or the Bullwinkle show. The three teams besides Wassamatta U (which consists of Rocky, Mr. Peabody and Sherman and Aesop) include Frostbite Falls (the team mates include Captain Pete “Wrong way” Peachfuzz as well as the three protagonists of Dudley Do-right also contrary to what you see on the jewel case cover, Horse does not play in the game) and of course Pottsylvania (I don’t think I need to get into who is on this team, it consists of the main antagonists of the series...minus Mr.Big) and you have to pick two from each team (plus an avatar that mostly consist of probably High School and College students), and they have two different animations for a certain line of dialogue, like when the narrator falls into old habits Rocky says “Bullwinkle the narrator thinks he’s still on our old show I think he may be having a memory problem” when he’s not selected to be on a team he comes from behind a curtain to say it
Graphics: Hand drawn animation I love every second of it (by the way this game came out long before the movie did like two years, yeah I would have loved to have seen an animated incarnation of Karen Sympathy show up here too) Round one has the contestants on at traditional game show set, round 2 will have the contestants fall through a trap door and into some kind of weird room with electronics and stuff like you’re inside a missile or rocket ship or something hmm want to bet the Pottsylvanian government set that up I mean even the 2000 movie (there was another one in the early 90s) acknowledged that they were communists and that fell in that country too but the big bad three wouldn’t accept it and that’s why they went to Hollywood in the first place. The third round is set in an interrogation room and it’s a true and false question (yeah this is stuff I should be describing under depth but I can’t ignore this)
Addictive: I played this a lot when I was a child but after one of those incidents where my parents had to yank my games from me because of school work or bad behavior and I was able to use it again it had well, it wouldn’t work I would keep getting an error message that would shut down the game, but when I played Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego (1996) I don’t know what was in that game but it made it work again, though the problem eventually came back though not to long after that my family got our XP and I never saw that error message again
Depth: The game consists of three rounds and three to four categories per game depending on how many people are playing (and the third or fourth category will be left until the next round), it’s a game that would consist of 1-3 players...though I haven’t played it in three player mode in years, if you do it against the computer and if you play as Wattsamatta U or Frostbite falls no matter what you are playing against Pottsylvania, I’m pretty sure that if you are on Pottsylvania’s team you’re up against Frostbite falls no matter what
Soundtrack: Very, very faithful to the original Rocky and Bullwinkle source material and speaking of source material they actually have June Foray back to voice Rocky, Natasha and Nell Fenwick (because the rest of the cast was dead at this point a majority of them didn’t live to see the 90s) and HOLY CRAP LANI MINELLA IS VOICING SHERMAN IN THIS? She has quite a computer game voice acting resume most recently I found out that she also did voice work for another game that I don’t remember the title of (it wasn’t any of the You Don’t Know Jack games, I don’t think Her Interactive would have allowed it though considering how inappropriate the games are) but I don’t think it was something I recently played...I bet she would have voiced Blaze Fielding if they put actual voices in Streets of Rage. I thought the new voice actors were pretty good and on par, and there’s an audience and the don’t seem enthusiastic to be there but when we get to round 3 they go wild (I don’t understand the lack of enthusiasm considering during the credits people are in line to see the show...unless they’re a captive audience, of course our heroes are always oblivious to that
Difficulty: The game has two levels easy and hard and well no matter what the difficulty selection the game is always finished in the same amount of time less than twenty minutes, and well as an adult who has tried this game on a harder level it’s not as hard as I thought I was going to be
Post review follow up: You know what they really should have done, instead of just using people that were used in the main series they really should have brought in other Jay Ward character properties like Super Chicken or George of the Jungle (though I think the latter probably wouldn’t have been possible because Disney kind of had the rights to George at the time and wait a minute, Disney as about a year away from putting out the live action Dudley Do-right movie and the characters appear in the game they still could have used George. This game came out before the live action film (which I really liked btw) but I played this the year after it came out
This concludes my review, I have decided that I will not post any reviews on Sundays this tour because god forbid I'll be up to my neck in You Don't Know Jack playings
