And now after this I will have only one more Nancy Drew game to review (but it will have to be tuned up first I hate being under 1000 words in these reviews but I have to make an effort to keep it above 500), of course that might change because if all goes well with the Nancy Drew games for Sleuth Sundays this year I might add more to the lineup especially since someone put all of them on the internet archive (however I don’t know how many of them I will play because there are some puzzles in the games after 11 that turn me off for being too difficult, I mean sure there are FAQ sheets out there that could be helpful but there’s only so many I can go through, hell I don’t think I even want to play Castle Malloy that end puzzle game where I have to mix chemicals looks like a disaster waiting to happen, and don’t get me started on getting through that warehouse in Phantom of Venice) okay I am almost two hundred words in let’s begin for this game

oh yeah this game may have some spoilers

Gameplay and Story: Based on the book of the same name (but obviously a different story here, I should know I actually read the book there’s no nasty custody battle in the game) Nancy is called down to an amusement park in New Jersey (with an accommodating hotel where her laptop gets a vacation...oh yeah something I’ll bring up in awhile) because a carousel horse has been stolen and then the carousel has been starting up by itself at night, and to make matters more complicated the park is being sued because the Roller Coaster stopped by itself and someone allegedly got hurt, so the park owner (who happens to be a friend of Nancy’s Father, man how many people does he know?) asks Nancy to help investigate because the police aren’t going to be helpful, and well let’s just say there’s more than one mystery at hand the other one involving Miles the Magnificent Memory Machine and he says it with Gusto) and Nancy’s list of suspects include the security guard with an incarcerated past, the park’s accountant who stopped her own childhood at too young an age (and the reason why is really sad) along with a machine her late father (the park’s former owner) left for her to help her reacquaint herself with her childhood (and that takes up a good chunk of the game) as well as the health nut park engineer, and the graphics designer with a procrastination problem

Graphics: So, they’ve been about the same the last few games it’s not like anything groundbreaking or new happens here though we see a little bit more of Nancy but not as much as we wish to (okay we actually l see less of her than we saw in Ghost Dogs, we see her foot get caught under the roller coaster track) you know considering that we are at some kind of the e park I’m surprised there wasn’t a walk around character around...but then again most of the staff had to take time off during the investigation of the carousel

Depth: So, there are some new features in this game, starting in this game Nancy takes her laptop with her (but this will be short lived considering what happens with the new screen and she gets an updated cell phone) and her cellphone so no more having to use her hosts or hotel phone, however we have to use it when we are not inside a suspects area also this is the first game where we have Nancy eat stuff, something I’m not against the food in the games look awesome, so the only phone we get to use is the Room Service Phone

Addictive: Most Nancy Drew games are but I haven’t played the game in years, mostly because I hadn’t owned a copy but somehow I could’ve sooner had I ignored the fact that I already owned a copy of Ghost Dogs at Moon Lake, the same would have gone for Deception Island, maybe I will review triple threat 3 as well but compilation reviews are kind of tricky when you’ve already reviewed the games for it) this was deep from back when I renewed interest in the Nancy Drew games and wanted to watch what I missed out on

Soundtrack: I do like the success music used in the game but I feel like this is something that was rejected from Danger on Deception Island considering that both games have a sea theme, but the theme park has a sea theme. The soundtrack does fit the theming but it’s not as memorable as the ones from Scarlet Hand or Ghost dogs or even Deception Island or Shadow Ranch

Difficulty: So I did have difficulties with this game at first not helped by the fact that I was dealing with a computer that was dealing with a constant case of Blue Screen of Doom and that was pretty annoying, I had to save the game constantly, first I was stuck with the soldering puzzle because I kept shorting out the circuit, and then I had to deal with that stupid Harmonica where I had to play the tune for Miles the Magnificent Memory machine, I had such a hard time getting it right I almost had to take the game back to the library without finishing it, but somehow blowing deeper into the harmonica I finally managed to get it right the day I had to take it back and I managed to finish it. They do offer junior or senior detective levels of course the latter of which I haven’t tried (yeah, I’m too chicken)

Post review follow up: You know there is a loose end in this game we never do find out how that roller coaster lawsuit turned out, when we actually call the Plaintiff, he’s making it sound like he’s going to go for a settlement rather than what he was suing for...so I guess that’s a good thing or rather not considering how we found out how the Roller Coaster was stopped, of course the Roller Coaster Saboteur and the Horse thief are not one and the same

This concludes my review, now I have to find more games to review so I can be more active in the summer since apparently not being active in the review department has essentially cost me badly this tour
