Updated Bootstrap and JQuery
I've updated the version of Bootstrap and JQuery that Vizzed uses, which are Javascript libraries the site uses. Updating offers better security for the site and possibly better performance.
However, I didn't fully test out the site to make sure the site is compatible with the updates. So, if anyone on the site was working before today and is no longer working properly, let me know ASAP.
Removed Taboola Ads
Additionally, I temporarily removed Taboola ads since they could potentially be hurting the site's Google rank and user experience. A few weeks ago I had also removed an that appeared at the top of the page for guests, which I found to be very annoying and didn't know about the extent of that annoyance until recently.
Next Steps
I'm going to be trying to optimize and improve the site's performance over the next few months in an effort to increase the site's traffic from Google. I probably will not have much time to do this over the next 2 months, but at the start of 2023, I'll have vacation days again at my job and so I'll be taking a few days off from work to focus on these various problems. These various problems include:
-Too many uncompressed or large images (greatly hurts google rank)
-Optimize the rendered HTML to be more minified
-Migrate more css to .css files
-Migrate more javascript to .js files
-Site is still not mobile friendly enough so I'll be greatly enhancing this
Conclusion
The web is always changing, and so are the requirements and available resources for websites. It's time consuming to constantly update the site to please the new standards, and it's been a while since I've invested a lot of time into the SEO side of vizzed. I do it from time to time but haven't really dedicated a ton of time towards it, mainly because alot of this is behind the scenes stuff that people may not always notice or appreciate, so it sometimes feels hard to justify doing it or to find the motivation and time to do it.
