To be fair I was going to initially call this review "this is the game that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend" because it does, there's no end to the game (it would especially be meta considering that Shari Lewis actually did a clue spot on the world game show....but without Lamb Chop....man I kind of wish in that episode that after Greg turned off the monitor Rockapella suddenly starts singing that song, and then Greg closes the Dutch door on them)
Gameplay and Story: oy the things Carmen will do, this time she's created knowbots to steal knowledge of certain things like plastic or alphabetical order, and she has some master thieves on her, even though I'm questioning why she would even need them here. Oh wait now I do when we destroy the knowbots we get the codes to break into a henchman's hideout. So Chase Devineaux (by the way this is the last of the Devineaux trilogy) has some recruiting to do, he's recruiting the agents to destroy these knowbots and breaching the crooks hideouts and if we're lucky we'll get a Carmen sighting at the hideout, also we have to take on these knowbots at several locations.
Graphics: Why did they change Snarla Swing's look? she wasn't white in word detective, same goes for Ima Lezard, why did they change Otto Readmore's name? well nitpicks aside, the backgrounds look good for their locations and so does the knowbots, the animation looks kind of strange but I think around this time The Learning Company had taken control of Carmen so this didn't have broderbund's fingerprints, we gotta pick our avatar they don't offer alot of options but I picked the ones closest to what I looked like (you'll see in the screenshots and the video submissions eventually)
Soundtrack: yeah our little avatar would have a habit of dancing quite a bit, a good chunk of the memorable part of the soundtrack is in the academy between cases, nice cello's
Addictive: Well I owned this game for several years, but I didn't play it until 2019....actually the year before I had some practice but I didn't play it for filming til the following year, but yeah I played it quite a bit in 2018 I actually had fun with it, this was when I was starting off with my virtual machines though so of course I was going to use it.
Depth: You are probably wondering why did I say it was the closest we'll get to a PC version of the game show, well the power podiums we use have buzzers. There are 30 cases in the game after you finish case 30 you start over again with the theft of Alphabetical order. And then there's the way you have to capture the knowbots, those were kind of complicated, either we have to shoot them or touch them without being spotted.
Difficulty: man of all the Carmen Sandiego games out there, this one really kicked my ass, but for reason the jumbler did more damage to my mentality than the Quadrophobia puzzle (think Wordle) also at some point, math and science got too hard, and the Crime area stopped being fun, thank god I found out about the customizer function I could have really used that when I was struggling with Math and Science, I'm at my best with Geography, Art, Music and History, and some parts of English
Post Review Follow up: Man this was such a complicated review to write up when I had so little time, thank god for the Chrome toggles, I cannot mentally juggle on a friday when I have stuff to do and very little time to do it. What I hate most about the game is that we can't interrupt the knowbots they have to let them finish reading the question (What is this the Weakest Link? there wasn't one moment in the most recent season that didn't make me weep for humanity or make me scream THIS IS WHY WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CARMEN SANDIEGO NEEDS A REVIVAL) yeah the knowbots can be annoying after awhile (I think at this point they were using some of the learning company's voice actors considering I recognized one of the Knowbot voices from Cluefinders 4th Grade Adventures)
