and now we get another one of my favourites (yes the demo made me want this too however that demo was not interactive)
Gameplay and Story: So once again we go on a strange journey through the Amazon Rainforest. We travel with a guide from Belem to Vilcabamba, however the Jaguar in the intro gives us a better description of who we will meet on our journey, a majority of the people we meet are reused from the first game, and like in the original game we collect special items for the Inca game, however most of them we lose to a trade (and if we're not careful in the trading we lose items to that conquistador Lope de Aguirre) or if we get sick (we get special medicine from a medicine man) however getting Cinchona to Titu Cosi is not a priority, we get to Vilcabamba so we can hear a message from the ancient ones. Along the way we do some fishing with Harpoons (all of a sudden there are sharks, and Pirrarucu's the size of an SUV) and explore the rainforest and hopefully avoid obstacles on the river)
Graphics: This is actually a remastered version of Amazon Trail 2, the graphics are drastically different, we don't see the green screen, The Learning Company's release of this game fixed alot of errors that Amazon Trail 2 had however even though they fixed those problems, another one arises, also I think a new team worked on this game, I don't think it was the Oregon Trail 3 team otherwise the people we meet would have been frozen, but no they're actually moving around and doing stuff so I guess the people that worked on Oregon Trail 4 were told to pay attention and take notes here since they move around in the game as well
Soundtrack: So the intro title screen has some interesting music however everything is recycled from Amazon Trail II as this is a remake of the game, and we get some familiar bird squawking noises that's basically used in any type of rainforest media (though we don't hear it in Magic School Bus explores the world of Animals) the background music changes after every stop we make and we hear music we don't want to hear if we go the wrong way....I could have used that in the first game instead of suddenly being told by the jaguar that I became tribe food
Addictive: I played this alot back in the day however this game has been retired from the gaming lineup but I still have an extras video to pump out of that, mostly showing what happens if we go the wrong way, and the game credits as well because I want to see if they reused people
Depth: They added alot more to this game, they offer you four guides to pick from rather than two (depending on which version of the game you get for some reason there is a version that only has Elena and Joao, but the version I have also has Miguel and Rosa.....yeah she does look an awful lot like Melanie Lynsky but I know that isn't her, that would be too interesting...and scary considering her role on Two and a Half Men) we go to eighteen locations, also once again we do the navigating. You are also given about four new areas you can explore three of which you can actually gather food in.
Difficulty: I will admit when I first played this game back in 2001 I didn't get the hang of it right away, but then again I was still using a windows 95 computer that sometimes caused problems, hell the second time I took out the game it wouldn't co-operate at all. The Frog catching activity was difficult when I was younger however when I finally replayed it again 5 years ago it was easier, but if anything identifying the fish has become even harder probably because we don't get to measure them like we do the insects. Also unlike the first game if we go the wrong way
Post Review Follow up: it's just a shame we didn't get a fourth edition of the game however, Oregon Trail Fourth Edition was kind of a technical mess. But I think I'll talk more about this when I get to Amazon Trail II
This concludes my review join me tomorrow when I review.....*checks notes* Amazon Trail 2? what's after that (don't worry I'm not skipping it) okay at least I'll be covered briefly...I need to put better effort into playing and mastering console games...wait what am I doing I think I forgot to do Africa Trail (not available under PC...whatever I said I would do it under steam it's the same thing anyway) I'm doing Africa Trail tomorrow
