I am bored and I feel like reviewing something so I am going to review something
and that something might as well be one of my most favorite single player games ever Now, before I say anything else PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLAY THIS ON CONSOLE IF YOU CAN THE PC PORT IS A DUMPSTER FIRE The PC version is totally playable but has some serious issues compared to the console versions that just make it painful to play. The only reason I am reviewing the PC version is because this is the version that I 100%ed. So with that said, I honestly don't know what to say about the game itself. It's a Sonic game. The usual "get from point A to point B" formula, just now in three whole dimensions for some reason. And it's done pretty dang well if I do say so myself. Graphics: 5 DX is supposed to be the definitive version of this game, so it only makes sense that would try to remaster the graphics. Big emphasis on the word "try". Because, uh, to say it bluntly...this kinda sucks. DX's graphics are just plain. There isn't really any personality. If you've only ever played DX (as was the case with me for most of my life, in fact I only started playing the original SA last month) you've probably been able to tolerate it. But once you play the original Dreamcast version I promise you you'll never ever EVER want to look at DX again. Sound: 10 Soundtracks are one of the things that the Sonic games almost never get wrong, and Adventure is obviously no exception. This game has got a whole mixture of music, rock, jazz, etc etc etc. It just tries to go for whatever fits the mood and it does a really freaking good job. This is definitely in one of my top 5 video game soundtracks, and that's out of the 98389578236983 (number probably not accurate) ones that I've listened to. Addictiveness: 7 I've beaten this game god knows how many times now. Adventure clearly isn't designed to be addicting but it just is. These stages are just so much fun to go through. Emerald Coast is probably one of the best opening stages ever made. You finish it once, bam, this is your new favorite game now. There's also a whole ton of extra content once you've finished the game (even more in DX, one its few redeeming qualities over the Dreamcast version). Story: 6 Ok that's enough praise, it's time to criticize things again. I know Sonic games aren't exactly known for great stories, but still. Adventure actually does fairly okay in this department compared to the rest of the series. It's still not anything special but at least the actually put some effort into this one To sum it up (this is just based on my memory please don't blame me if I get this wrong), A long loooooooooooong time ago there was this sentient humanoid blob of water i have no idea type thing called Chaos. And he protected the little blue things chaos. Yes, the ones from the chao garden. THOSE ones. At some point Chaos went berserk for whatever reason and so somebody sealed him in the Master Emerald. Fast forward to whenever the game actually takes place, Eggman discovers Chaos exists, frees him, and plans to feed him the Chaos Emeralds to make him the most overpowered living being on the planet. Cue blue hedgehog and co attempting to stop this. gonna stop here because spoilers Depth: 4 It's a Sonic game. Not really sure why you were expecting depth. You run, you jump, you roll, that's basically it. There is some extra depth compared to other games since Adventure has got a whole roster of characters all with their own abilities. They are still all pretty straightforward and will take you like 10 seconds to learn but it's something. Difficulty: 7 Beating the game isn't too hard, minus a couple bosses that will really do you in if you're not sure what to do. (Egg Viper...) 100%ing the game is another story. Obtaining an A rank on every stage requires some pretty decent speedrunning. This isn't crazy hard if you look up how to do it but if you decide to do it on your own hahahahah good luck There's also the mission mode, which again is not too tricky for the most part but it has a few things that will drive you nuts. There's a mission that requires you to jump a certain length off the last hill on Icecap and you have no idea how accurate your jump has to be for it to work. There's also one that makes you grab a whole bunch flags on...yeah, you know where this is going. Icecap is home of most of the brutal missions for some reason And finally there's the chao races. The isn't really much skill involved here but BOY I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO GRIND BECAUSE YOU'RE GONNA BE SPENDING HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS ON THIS OVERALL: 9 Now maybe I'm slightly biased here because I love this game so much, but yeah this is a masterpiece. Please play this game, I really promise you won't regret it. (although I would recommend starting with the original Dreamcast version instead just because it is much more pleasing to look at) and that something might as well be one of my most favorite single player games ever Now, before I say anything else PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLAY THIS ON CONSOLE IF YOU CAN THE PC PORT IS A DUMPSTER FIRE The PC version is totally playable but has some serious issues compared to the console versions that just make it painful to play. Good review Sonic Adventure is pretty good when it comes to Sonic games tho I highly disagree with you calling it the best 3d Sonic game tho that's not important I was going to say if anyone sees this review and owns the PC version and is curious to try playing the game with dreamcast lighting and such I highly recommend trying the Dreamcast conversion mod it wasn't hard to install when I played the game and it has options so you can decide like if you prefer Sonic's DX model over his dreamcast model for example. |

SonicOlmstead : The conversion mod actually causes some weird bugs (for example the cannon sometimes just refuses to explode in sky deck act 1). If you wanna play the DC version emulation is probably the better option if your computer can handle it |
