I've been considering getting a n64 or a gamecube but i have a hard time deciding on which one. So i was wondering if any one here could give me their honest opinion on them. Im mostly interested in getting smash bros, mario kart and mario64 which exists for both consoles. Except mario64 which is only on the n64.

And if i understand correctly the gamecube has the ability to play some gameboy cartridges if you have a gameboy player. Which is a plus considering i have a couple gb color games.

But other wise neither game cube or n64 are backwards compatible ?

And i was wondering on the whole region lock thing as well. For example if i buy one from japan can it still run games sold in the eu. 192.168.0.1 routerlogin 192.168.l.l

mehulkasi85 : So I think the biggest thing here is did you grow up playing the N64 at all? because I think people who didn't will probably prefer both smash and Mario kart on GameCube better. I think most people prefer Smash Bros Melee over 64 anyway but I really think most people who didn't play Mario Kart 64 back when it was popular will most likely have a lot easier time getting into Double Dash. I looked into the GameCube player which it says it can play GameBoy, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance games so you could get more from the Gameboy systems if you wanted to. I looked it up just in case but neither system is backward compatible as one has cartridges and the other has tiny discs. It looks like both systems are also region locked which means no you can't buy it from Japan then the games from Europe. I will say I might be biased towards the GameCube because of Double Dash which for a period of time I thought might be my favorite game back when I wasn't sure if I had a favorite game but I also love Mario 64 I just don't think the downgrade in Mario Kart and Smash Bros is worth it for one other game. Hope I was able to answer your questions.

mehulkasi85 : For me its more what games did you grow up with. Me the only N64 games I really played were the Mario's, Zelda's, Star Fox, and F-Zero and all that. For me the Gamecube is better due to the Game Boy Player, as the GBA is my favorite console.

However id say wait till Covid goes away, as retro gaming has inflated substantially. If on a budget Emulation is still a great option.
