What are your thoughts on abandoned cars that are left out in the street? Do you see them often? Do they piss you off? Are they taken care of in a timely fashion? Who do you think should be taking care of them?

There is always so much controversy when it comes to cars that are left on the street. Normally, after a car has been left for 2 or more days, or had been destroyed or had it's played removed, it usually becomes the responsibility of either the police Department of sanitation to get rid of it within a few days.

However, this rarely ever happens because of 2 things.

1. Sometimes the people in charge of getting rid of the cars simply don't want to. The police will claim a car is the responsibility of sanitation and sanitation will say it's the police and nothing gets done for months until too many people complain.

2. It can also be about money. Tow companies make money by towing cars and then the owner of the car pays to have the car back. But if the car is abandoned, nobody would ever pay. A spot would be filled in the tow lot for an indefinite amount of time and the Department of tow company would get no money at all so they choose not to do anything about abandoned cars because it's not profitable.

zanderlex : whenever I see any abandoned cars I sometimes wonder if they have been stolen and nothing is being done to try and find the owners down where I work they have a huge parking lot and there are about 3 or 4 cars that have been sitting there for quit a long time although it,s not really a big problem if they are in a parking lot it can be bad if they are abandoned on streets especially when they have to go around the cars to plow the snow off the streets but we don,t have a department of sanitation that removes them all the street cleaning is done by the city and the snow plowing is contracted out to different companies but I see your point about how the tow company makes a profit towing them and how the police ignore the cars although it,s probably because the police have better things to take care of and can,t be bothered having them towed

I haven't come across any clearly abandoned car over here for a while and I'm not sure what laws or procedures do we have for them, but it surely is an eyesore to see them abandoned on a parking spot that could be occupied by someone who actually uses their car.

In my city there are severe problems to find somewhere to park your car, and I'm sure many other places are like that because of the population increase. Why someone just lets a car rot in the streets is beyond me, after all you're still paying taxes for it, so why not plan on selling it off or something along the lines to make some profit out of it?

I honestly wish there was an effective way of dealing with this. However, I do think that the rules should be revisited, because a car can stay parked for a few days but that doesn't mean it's abandoned, even more now in my city with the new regulations to combat pollution where certain cars will only be able to be driven during the weekends.

It's a complicated subject no matter how you see it, but then again every administration has better things to do than this, so most probably nothing will get changed in the short term.
