Octopath Traveler is a game. A really freakin' good one at that. I haven't really gotten that far in it but from what I have played (about 8 or 9 hours if I recall correctly) it's fantastic. The visuals, the voice acting, the gameplay, all of it is so good. Really excited to see where this game takes me in the future, OH I FORGOT TO MENTION THE SOUDNTRACK OMG IT'S SO GOOD. What are some of your favorite things about this beautiful game? Do you have any complaints about it?

This is a game that I'm kind of excited to play. When I first made my I got a switch thread, pretty much everyone suggested it but I never gave it a chance.

But after Christmas passed, Gamestop had a buy 2 get 1 free sale on pre owned games and I figured if I'm gonna use it, I might as well get 3 expensive games instead of what I normally do and get $10-20 games so I ordered this and it arrived on Sunday.

I do like the graphics but I'm not entirely a fan of the concept of a bunch of interwoven stories but I guess I can give it a shot and see what I think.

It kind of reminds me of a few RPG's that I helped on Kickstarter so that gives me some hope.

Octopath Traveler is exactly what I've wanted from Final Fantasy but never got. The job system is absolutely amazing, I've loved the concept ever since I've played Final Fantasy V. The inclusion of the break system is also really cool, because it's just an extra level of strategy. I always thought that a lot of the final fantasy games were grindy and a little dull at times, but what Octopath Traveler does different really keeps you on your feet.

Yasunori Nishiki did an amazing job with the soundtrack, I like to stop and listen to the music in a lot of places, which funfact, is exactly what Nishiki hopes people do. You should consider doing it sometime.

Overall while I haven't finished it, I think it's an absolute masterpiece. I got the special edition with the popup book and coin, and I love it so much. It's one of the only special editions I actually really wanted.

yoshirulez! What's the job system about? I really like games that have in depth job stuff in them.

It's one of the big reasons for why I got Bravely Default to begin with.

If the job system is good, the likelyhood that I like this game instantly goes up 500%.

Basically, every character has their own "job". For instance, one character has the job of Thief, which allows him to steal items from townspeople. Another one of the characters has the "Hunter" job, which allows her to summon monsters into battle. The job is unique to each character.

Lexatom : Are the jobs just a title or do you actually have to go and do the job?

Nah, it automatically comes with the character. Think of it like a special skill that only that character has. You have it from the start of the adventure to the end.

Oh well that kind of turns me off from it. I thought for a second that it was something you actually did. It it's just some passive boost then I'm not really that big a fan of it anymore.

Actually, you can unlock a secondary job through shrines typically found near chapter 2 towns. They're fairly hidden but once you get the secondary job, you can switch between them. So you could, for instance, have a Warrior/Hunter, which is actually a very strong combination. They can't do the character-specific technique (for instance, only Olberic can challenge people, only Therion can steal from people)

With those jobs, you can then spend your extra JP to unlock techniques, such as Rain of Arrows for Hunter. Additionally, secondary jobs allow that character to equip whatever weapons that job can use, so a warrior/hunter can equip Sword, Spear, Bow, AND Axe. By extension, this makes the Break system that much easier to strategize with.

Now I've only done about 2 hours of Ophelia's adventure in Octopath, but I'm loving it so far. The music is spectacular, and I love how there are weaknesses for each of the monsters, making it kind of like Pokemon in that way, but also stunning them, which kind of reminds me of toppling in Xenoblade. Speaking of the music, if you liked this game's soundtrack, then I must suggest you go and listen to my buddy Jules's album The Eightfold Road, which is a 32 Track album of remixes from Octopath Traveler, which is pretty staggering with how new the game is (especially seeing how the game came out in July, and he released it in October). I hope to update in this thread when I get farther into it (though Kingdom Hearts is kind of getting in the way of that) since I'm really enjoying the game.
