After a lot of deliberation and stalling, the trump administration has finally banned bump stocks. No matter which side of the political spectrum you’re on, you have to agree, bump stocks, which allow simiautomatic guns to fire at an increased rate of speed, and not for everyday citizens. The device made national attention last year when the Las Vegas gunner used one to allow him to fire quicker than normal, possibly allowing him to murder more people in the time frame. While a ban on bump stocks shouldn’t be the own gun-regulations that are passed, in my opinion, it is a great start, and a great move by the trump administration. I haven’t given Trump much credit, but this was a tough but important decision.

I support people's right to own guns for sporting, hunting and self defense

However, I support this ban. These devices are really not needed. They can turn a regular rifle into a machine gun. Also there have been lots of safety issues with this device. Such as causing rifles to blow up cause they can't handle the rate of fire, causing the gun to double discharge, and people have accidentally shot other people with this device due to not being able to control the rifle.

So yeah nobody really needs this type of device.

I support the second amendment completely, but don't have much of a problem with this. Bump stocks aren't necessary for people to defend themselves. That being said, I don't think this will really change anything, because devices and modifications that accomplish the same thing can be done pretty easily. I do think it is a smart move on Trump's part, because it shows he is willing to budge a little bit and listen to the other side.

I frankly think this is a great idea. To ban a part of a gun that almost entirely isn't needed by the public is a great move. It's a move that may save a few lives in the future. And a few lives are worth much more than thousands of bump stocks.

But hey, I'm not an expert.

I'm fine with it, I don't need my pistol shooting 10 bullets a second to defend myself against an violent person threatening my life.

To be honest, I don't really cared too much about Bump Stocks anyways, and having them banned doesn't concern me. Sure, they might be some people out there that might be against the whole idea about not having anymore Bump Stocks, but to be honest, they can deal without them.

tornadocam : Which I do agree, Bump Stocks aren't really needed in the public hands and should only be used in the military, like you said about using guns for sporting, hunting, and self-defense, they don't use any bump stocks, if those people doesn't need Bump Stocks, then Bump Stocks aren't needed.

One would think, given my post history, that I'd be super upset about this. It doesn't matter, though.

See, here's the deal. I'm actually more upset about the fact that people are passing laws that are totally ineffective in anything they do.

Bump firing wastes ammo.

Bump firing destroys any amount of accuracy.

You can bump fire a semi-automatic pistol with a board and a nail, and a rifle with a belt loop on your pants. This law accomplished nothing. Total waste of money that could've gone into the roads or something. Want a demonstration?

I am super happy with this decision. I haven't really gotten into my opinions on gun laws around here very much (and that will most likely be another discussion for another day), but this decision is a great move on their part. Glad to see something being done about this.

m0ssb3rg935 : You don't need accuracy when firing into a large crowd of people...

Your country has a terrible gun problem and at least it is nice to see an attempt to changing things or even a start, even if it's useless, so you say.

If it is a law that is totally ineffective, what would be an effective law to pass?

IgorBird122 : I don't even think the military uses bump stocks.

MoblinGardens : Death by mass shooting is tiny compared to the amount of violent crime of other causes. Let's take a moment to consider this idea: all violent crime, by firearm or other weapon, is a symptom of a much larger problem.

We see school shootings by students who are either ill, regularly bullied, or both. I'd hazard a guess that most student school shooters feel like the powers that be turn a blind eye to everything to save face, and it's really not that far of a stretch. They probably feel like it's left to them to take matters into their own hands and that there's no justice but vigilante justice.

Cities like Detroit and Chicago are deathtraps as a result of gang activity. No amount of regulation or even confiscation is going to take weapons off the street. What we can do is crash the black market. We lost the war on drugs and any money thrown into fighting it is 200% wasted. Instead, we could be legalizing and taxing the lesser illegal drugs like weed and decriminalizing much of the rest of the harder drugs, pairing some of that new tax revenue with the budget from the war on drugs, and opening up publicly funded rehab centers to get addicts off the stuff. Addicts will clean up, less law enforcement officers will be dying in vain while trying to enforce unenforceable laws, we'll have more tax revenue without raising any existing taxes, and we'll kill gang activity by sucking all of the profitability out of the black market.
