I just finished Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest and thought I would review this game seeing as how it's the first RPG I ever finished. I am going to do this on a 1 to 5 basis, 1 being worst and 5 being best. With that said, shall we get started?
Storyline/Plot 2/5
Probably the weakest part of this game. Had no twists and turns like other RPGs I've played and it played mostly straight forward. No character development whatsoever, at least none that I could find. But I gave it 2 out of 5 because the storyline is simplistic and I do tend to like the feel of a simple storyline. I could say the same thing about the plotline, but I'm not going to waste time on it. On to my next part.
Graphics 2.25/5
I don't know why people didn't like the graphics to this game. Yes, it wasn't a graphical genius of a game, but I don't feel it needed to be. And graphics is not one of the reasons I usually purchase an RPG. But I thought the graphics were OK, however, they seemed to be a little cartoony for my taste. Next part coming up.
Music 4.5/5
If the storyline/plot was the weakest part of this game, this category was definitely the strongest. From the forest theme, the temple theme, the battle themes, the boss battle themes, and the final boss theme, even the dungeon themes were pretty good. I don't give it a 5/5 because it had a lack of character based themes, but the one that I found was very good. This is also one of the categories that I love an RPG to be strong at. Final assessment next up.
Overall 3.25/5
This game is a good starting point for anyone to start an RPG. It's very simplistic in storyline and gameplay, but the music will help make up for some of that. For hardcore RPGers, I don't recommend this game, but for the noobs to RPG type play, this title might be worth a second gander.
