Davideo7 : I have a suggestion for something that could bring in quite a considerable ammount of site activity. I think you at least have the framework with the game collection. All you would need to do would be to figure out how to use that to go with... Sports Trading Cards.

Right now, the only site that I am aware of that does organizing and trading of sports cards is Beckett, but a lot of people are dissatisfied due to the lack of support that the trading side of the site sees. If you could perhaps work it to where we can organize similiarly to Beckett, pull values from eBay and Beckett (most collections, not investors, will tell you that there is a difference in trade value and sell value), and give us the ability to trade, I think once people found out about it, a lot of people would come to the site. Sure, it'd be a lot of work to get it set up, and you could probably even charge a small fee. Heck, we pay ~$100 a year on Beckett. I'm sure people would be willing to spend maybe $5 a month (with no ads) to have a better version of Beckett. I think it would be similiar enough to how you have the Video Game Collection. You would just have to figure out a way to make it work for the site that is super simple and user friendly. I would suggest making a whole new section of the site, and then using the framework from the VGC code to make the base for the Sports Card Collection, and then just figuring out how to get 50+ years worth of cards into your database.

I think it would really be worth all the extra space and money you would have to spend to store that data, as long as people were willing to let you take your time (not an eternity) to set it all up.

You should make your suggestions on the new request page at https://www.vizzed.com/request.php

I think the idea could work but it should be centered around video games not sports as this is a gaming website and people come here for that. I like the idea but maybe if it were for Pokemon / Digimon cards and stuff that would be better in my opinion. Or he could create his own card trading system based on his database of game characters that would be awesome.

JigSaw : The current forumula is obviously not working anymore. I honestly believe that if David wants this site to live more than another year or two before he's forced to shut it down or sell for pennies on the dollar, he needs to add to it, not take away.

I have to agree with JigSaw here.

I'm one of the few here who is absolutely obsessed with sports, and even I wouldn't use the feature you are describing. It's an extremely niche thing that wouldn't benefit the site in the slightest, and would take too much time to develop, relative to the payoff it would bring.

I agree that things need to be added, rather than stripped out, but those things that are added have to appeal to the core audience of Vizzed, whatever he wants that to be. The core audience is gamers. What do gamers do? They game. Anything added should 100% have to do with gaming.

Expanding into multimedia is a good way to spread yourself too thin, then he really would be needing to sell the site for pennies on the dollars or shut it down entirely.

The forum traffic is dead yes but do not underestimate the traffic of the RGR/VGR. Today the playonlinegames link has received 235,008 views and it's only mid-day. That may not seem like a lot but to me it is. Thousands of people still visit daily. Vizzed is still alive and well and will not be shut down or sold for pennies anytime soon. The only thing that is hurting this site is the ability to play games has been diminished by Nintendo, competitor sites and lack to fund new RGR updates. This is why so many are leaving or have left to play on other sites.

As cool as a Vizzed Sports Almanac or some sort of sports card trading thing sounds, it's the wrong target audience. David's true passion is video games and this site was specifically created for that purpose. I know he loves football and tour de france but does he know the other sports well enough to satisfy such a large and diverse userbase? I don't think so. Plus, who is going to update all that stuff when Vizzed has a hard enough time finding staff to update and add game information? This idea is better as a spin-off project for another site, not Vizzed. If it were game related then I am all for it.

JigSaw :

What about an online card collecting type game?

Like you do certain things, and you get "booster" packs. These packs contain cards that pertain to video gaming, like one card is the PS4 as a console, another card could be Bonk from the titular series. Another one could be the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7.

It's the closest comparison I could find to thing1's proposed idea, that would make sense within the context of the site.

But even then, I can't think it would be all that worthwhile to add, relative to the time it would need to be added.

legacyme3 : That could work but it does seem like a ton of work, with Davids limited time I'm not sure how soon something like that could be made or if anyone would use it. David did want to add Triple Triad which I guess is a FF7 flash card game but I remember we couldn't figure out how to get it to work on here.
