TOYS R US kids, the end of an era is nearing.

The toy retailer has announced that, after 6 decades of operation, they has plans to close of sell all 800 of their stores in the US. As for the UK, they will shutter all their locations there too.

The news came 6 months after it filed for bankruptcy (w/ hopes of helping it get back on track w/ sales), w/ the company struggling to pay down nearly $6M in debt.

What do you think?

While I've never shopped there myself, it's a shame that they're shutting down after being around so long. I guess things like Amazon, eBay and other online services make up so much of the market that the stores just couldn't keep up. There'll probably be a lot of people without employment as a result.

While all that's tragic, my brother noted that there's a silver lining. Several of the stores may have demos and prototypes of videogames which we don't have ROMs of. If they're going to be selling off everything, we could see some very rare cartridges and discs floating around and some rare files being dumped.

I,m sorry to hear about toys r us closing their doors after 6 decades in business mainly because of all the people who are going to lose their jobs I live in canada and used to buy a lot of my nintendo games from them and while I haven,t heard anything so far about their stores where I live closing I assume that eventually the same thing will happen here as moss said amazon ebay and other online services make up so much of the market that the stores are having trouble keeping up just recently we lost all our sears stores after they went out of business but like sears I noticed that whenever I shopped at toys r us their prices always seemed to be a bit more than what the other stores were charging which also makes it harder for them to compete with the bigger stores such as walmart

It's a real shame. I remember as a kid getting so excited walking into a Toys R Us store which I most say I've been inside one no more than 5 times in my entire life time because of how overly priced their toys are. However, the store also had these toys displays that were just so cool to play with. I used to love the very few times I got to go there. As an adult, I went twice and didn't go back as I could find the same toys significantly cheaper online or at stores like Wal-Mart or Big K-Mart. It's becoming very common to see stores closed down because they can't compete with Amazon or eBay. Big K-Mart is closing a lot of its stores- the one in my neighborhood had been struggling for years. They started by removing all video games and most electronics, but kept a few tvs. Their price for a 40 inch 720p was almost $500 when I bought a 50" 4K TV at Wal-Mart for $330. Sears is on the shopping block and many other stores that like them can't seem to understand the competition. Wal-Mart, on the other hand, has made many changes to remain strong: online grocery shopping, online order with free pick up in store even a section to go pick it up without hassle, more merchandise from online retailers on Walmart.com, price match, they're bringing top toy retailers, they carry just about everything, bakery, deli, car service, liquor, pharmacy, optical, nail/hair salon, restaurants: Subway. McDonald's, Burger King, I mean they do everything. But Toys R Us an other stores didn't make much of a change into reaching out to a more diverse customer base. Sad, but not surprising.

For a reason, look no further than their price tags. It really saddens me to hear this, as I always wanted to go to a Toys 'R Us (not being able to type that backwards R annoys me. lol) as a kid but my parents always said no because of the prices. In my late teens (19) I finally got to go in one and it was pretty incredible. I only really looked at the board games, but I've always wanted to go back because it was just such an awesome place, and made you feel that magic of being a little kid all over again, you know?

But The prices! Even when I was there I didn't buy anything because they had the most outrageous price tags I've ever seen on those items. Literally anything I looked at could be purchased for considerably less anywhere else, online or otherwise. You can't survive doing that these days.

Toys R Us problems go back at least 15 years. The company has had a series of bad CEO"s that basically ruined the company. They made horrible decisions. What I hate is that 33,000 workers are going to lose benefits, and their jobs but the people who messed things up are going to get paid 15 million

Growing up in the 80's and early 90's Toys R US was a good store, all items where stocked. I remember getting NES/SNES games, lego sets and Gi-Joes. It was a pretty cool store.

Last time I was in one was in 2008 when me and my mom where shopping for my two young cousins. The store was junky, not kept up, everything looked picked over, and the quality of the toys was horrible. It was like the company did not care. We went into another Toys R Us store and the same thing. Instead we walked out and went to Target to buy gifts for my cousins.
