Pokemon Gaia (beta 2) Game Description

The rural Orbtus region has a rich and varied history. Long ago, a prosperous civilization populated its rocky landscape. They created several monuments to their gods and guardians, and it is believed they were wiped out by a series of disastrous earthquakes, with only their temples and idols remaining, as relics of the past.

In the present day, increased seismic activity has caught the interest of local archaeologist and Pokemon Professor, Professor Redwood. As his concern for the region's safety grows, he seeks out the assistance of new Pokemon Trainers with a flair for adventure to help him in his endeavor to save the region. In Celanto Town, on the south coast of Orbtus, he finds exactly what he is looking for, and kick-starts the journey of two talented Pokemon Trainers. One of those young people, of course, is you! Will you be able to uncover the mystery of the Orbtus region and prevent the earth from consuming it once again?

Features:

The Generation 4 physical / special / status split renders previously unusable Pokemon far more viable and effective, and significantly modernizes the battling experience.
The Generation 6-styled capture-experience system means your Pokemon will gain EXP for every wild Pokemon you capture.
The Black 2 / White 2-styled Repel system. Upon expiration, you will be asked if you wish to use another Repel.
Infinite TMs means that you can have a team full of Diglett with Earthquake!
Gen. 4 - 6 Pokemon. As a varied region, Orbtus is home to Pokemon such as Drilbur, Starly, Sigilyph and many more!
Gen. 4 - 6 moves. While not all appear, a great deal of the newer moves, such as Sucker Punch, Draco Meteor, Moonblast, Scald, and many more, are present in the hack, with animations and proper effects.
Gen. 4 - 6 items. Choice Specs, Assault Vests, Dusk Stones, and more items from the newer generations are featured in the hack to deliver a more diverse and modern battling experience.
Gen. 4 - 6 abilities such as Mega Launcher, Magic Guard, Sheer Force, and a plethora of others are available.
A modernized type chart is present in Gaia, meaning that Fairy-type moves and Pokemon exist, and Steel-type Pokemon no longer resist Dark- and Ghost-type moves.
Modernized learn sets bring Pokemon to their full potential, mirroring the learn sets of their Generation 6 counterparts.
Modernized moves make it so that moves such as Hydro Pump and Knock Off are updated to match their new effects, power and accuracy, as well as any other minor tweaks, present in the latest official games.
Modernized sprites for both Pokemon and Trainers.
New items such as the Regal Stone can be found in Orbtus.
New moves such as the Whismur line's damaging move, Cry Out, are available in Gaia!
Rock Climb and climbable walls. Rock Climb will allow access to secrets and rewards!
Hidden Grottoes hold riches, treasures and rare Pokemon in every alcove of the region!
Extensive decapitalization of multiple aspects of the game, such as GUI interfaces, Pokemon names, item names, ability names, etc.
Minor revisions and polishes, such as the player facing Trainers before battles and the ability to use the Running Shoes indoors.

Notes: This beta ends in Telmurk City, with a total of five Gym battles. Please read this README.txt file for important information.

Pokemon Gaia
Pokemon Gaia Version, beta 2, Review

I have to say, I really enjoyed this game. On the surface, its a well made hack of Fire Red, however the story drew me in like few other Pokemon Hacks have. I tend to enjoy Pokemon hacks that take away the standard "Trainer" class, where you're not from the main town, and you don't go to the Prof to get your starter, so this game was great for me.  While you do end up getting a classic starter from Prof Redwood, the Pokemon in the surrounding area give you the opportunity to have a balanced team very quickly.
I really liked the original region that was created. While trying to remember which town was what was a little difficult for someone used to the standard maps, the region flowed together well, and from what I saw in the beta there will be quite the variety of landscapes and weather effects to check out.

A few things I noticed:
A couple of the buildings would glitch out and restart the game when you entered them. It was never the same one twice in a row. It may have been because I ran through it, or if I had the space bar down while entering the building. The Pokemon Center at the Battle Swamp. If you try and heal there before you start, it glitches. Happened about 3 times for me. If you battle then go back over, the glitch doesn't happen. In the swamp, when you surf it says the water is "dyed a deep blue" while the screen shows it an ugly brown. It'd be nice if the text reflected that.I breed my Sylveon to try and get another Eevee (as I didn't realize how Eevee evolved into Sylveon in this game) and when the egg hatched it was a Level 1 Sylveon instead of an Eevee. Now, I haven't played the most recent version of Pokemon yet, but I am pretty sure it's supposed to be the lowest evolution stage of a Pokemon that hatches.
Graphics:  9As I said in my recap, I really enjoyed the new map. The graphics were crisp and colorful, and felt like Fire Red. Some of the newer (Gen 6) Pokemon that were added into this game (such as Sylveon) appeared a little flat and blocky, something I know is hard to fix but none the less causes those Pokemon to stand out from the others.

Sound:  9

There are a few places throughout the game where the sound gets a little sharp, or at least it did on my computer. That said, the song selection was spot on, plenty of classic songs to enjoy, and a few remakes (or at least they sounded that way to me).

Addictiveness:  10

I finished this game in the course of and evening and an afternoon of solid playing. My save record says I played just shy of 19hrs, and some of that was sped through with the help of the fast forward button Vizzed has provided. I couldn't put it down.

Story:  9

The story really pulled me in.  Its hard for a Pokemon hack to have a solid story, as all of the games are very linear; level up your Pokemon, defeat the gym leaders, defeat the league, save the world. Gaia's plot of being a research assistant was a nice change from that.

Depth:  7

The game allows you to explore about half the map and get 5 of the 8 badges. As I stated above, I was able to finish the game in about 19 in-game hours. This beta feels like the first half of the story, maybe a little less, and it would have been nice to at least get one of the moves that had been taunting us though out the game - Rock Climb.

Difficulty:  6

Once you get over the learning curve of how the map is laid out and what Pokemon are available where, the game is straightforward. I'm glad it still has that laid back Pokemon feeling, and that it didn't try and throw too many curve-balls our way.

Overall: 9

I am quite pleased with this game overall, and am eager to play the next version!

When I breed my Sylveon with another Pokemon, the egg hatches into a Sylveon? I thought it would hatch into an Eevee?

Loving the game thus far. I'm in the swamp, and I can't help but think the surf text should be changed a bit. The water in the swamp is not dyed a deep blue, it's kinda mucky. I think it'd be cool if the text reflected that. Just a thought.

This is easily one of, if not the best hacks I've ever played. It may only be in its beta, but it has so much potential. Can't wait till its finished

Also, hopefully you can incorporate the shaking grass thing from Blask and White 1&2.
