Blast Corps: Mind-numbing greatnessLet me ask you something. What is the most mind-numbing game you ever played? No, go think about it, I'll wait.
You got an answer? What is it? Something like Contra, right? Well, I'm here to tell you are wrong. There is no game more mind-numbing and stupid then Blast Corps. And that's probably the most interesting compliment I'll ever give....... well...... ever.
Story:
This is probably the stupidest part of Blast Corps. During your adventures as a Bulldozer, you realize that a truck containing a huge nuclear bomb is coming straight for your town. So, being the smart and handsome bulldozer operator you are, you get the right idea to CRUSH THE BUILDINGS THAT ARE IN THE TRUCKS WAY! Literally, that's the only story. Now, I may want to point out to you, you avoid destruction of a town by causing destruction of a town. Thankfully, the story doesn't take itself seriously at all, which is why I give it a decent score. Because trust me, if it did, this would be a 1. Instead, its a 6/10.
Presentation:
This is a very interesting presented game. This was a game that was made early in the N64's library. So, you know what that means. Buggy textures, repeating sound, you know the likes. So, I'm at point where I can give it either a good score due to it being made early in the N64 library or a low score for it being a non-visually impressive game. I'll go with the former. Even with the buggy textures and repeated sound, this game has an interesting feel to it. The visuals are perfect for what this game is, simple. Same with the sound. It's not exactly clean or compressed, but it resonates the feel of the game. And that's supposed to be the job of the presentation. 8/10 for graphics and 7/10 for sound, equally 7.5/10 for presentation.
Gameplay:
The most mind-numbing part of this game, easily. You remember that story we were talking about? That guy who destroys the city to avoid destruction? Yea, you're that guy. You're only point in the game is to destroy buildings. That's it. But, what makes it satisfying is the way you destroy them. Let me tell you, there is nothing more satisfying then taking down a building, explosions and all, with a speedboat. And that's not the most interesting destruction this game has. You control a flying robot that's only goal is to destroy buildings. Seriously. That alone gets a 9/10.
Interesting thing about this game:
This game is made by RareWare, and this one of the first N64 game they made, this game was followed by Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day, and the likes.
Overall:
This game is severely underrated. While other N64 games got the hype that, for some of them, don't deserve it, this game does deserve the hype. With a wacky premise, smooth gameplay, and crazy story, this is a game totally worth your Viz. If that doesn't convince you, ITS MADE BY RARE! Play it now.
