SuperCrash64 : Mario has been around for how many years? People still buy it. They can continue shoving the same Pokémon game with slightly different elements and people will still buy it. I just saw a thread on here about Pokémon Sun and Moon and what people are excited about.
Mario will outlast everyone. Pokémon will outlast everyone. People who buy video games allow the nostalgia to beat principles and no matter what Nintendo does, they will continue to succeed. You just watch. Everyone one here will complain about Nintendo's terrible business ethics and skills, then run out pick up the NX. It just happens that way. Mario will outlast everyone. Ghostbear1111 : Yeah and Watch how The next generation of Playstation and Xbox come out and people will start saying" THE PS5 and Xbox Scorpio are wrecking the NX!" Since the release of the Gamecube and the WII, Nintendo consoles have always fallen short of what Microsoft or Sony produced. And don't get me wrong, the Gamecube and original WII were great systems but they always made Developers stray away from making games for it. WII u had the worst success as of late, Even though they finally jumped to HD they had a terrible install base and terrible marketing. Generally speaking I don't hate Nintendo, but it's hard for me to expect a lot of good out of them these days, especially considering they don't focus on other franchises like Starfox, Metroid, or F-zero which they have the right to. And yes I'm aware starfox got a game on WII u this year, but that was his most recent game since his last on the gamecube.. It really bugs me that people are saying Nintendo is only in it for the money to be honest. Really? That is like saying the only reason someone works at KFC is for the money. OF COURSE IT IS FOR THE MONEY. Not one company actually cares about anything BUT the money. It is human greed. Also they still have every right to take it down and just think of it like this. Oh that is a cool new game, I will buy it! Not I would buy that super cool game but yknow they took down a free game that was stealing their material so I would rather not. |

I really don't understand why so many people are mad at Nintendo. Does it suck that they are doing this...yes it does, but at the same time, when they own a property, they are very protective of it, and I don't blame them one bit for doing so, and now you got a lot of people angry at Nintendo for doing what they are allowed to do with something they created. I do wish they were lenient and work with these fan games, and maybe get more exposure to these fans that make these games. The thing is, Nintendo isn't the only developer to do this, Konami has done it, Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, Sony, and more. I found it quite hypocritical that the Sonic the Hedgehog Youtube and Twitter took a shot at Nintendo, yet they sent the developers of a Streets of Rage fan game a C&D many years ago. I remember companies like Capcom shutting down Final Fight fan games, Street Fighter fan games, Mega Man fan games, but turned around and now accepts them, look at that Mega Man X Street Fighter game, and then there are a handful of other Mega Man fan games that haven't been shut down. Gamers need to relax about this and understand that Nintendo has the right to do what they are doing. There are plenty of torrent sites where these games will be released to, and smaller gaming sites. tRIUNE : Maybe so, but at the same time, with all these people losing their minds, it's like they don't look into why they are doing this. I was that way at one time too, but then I realized what they are doing, like I said, it definitely sucks, I love fan games, I download them when I can, because if it gets popular, you know it will get shut down, and I blame gaming media for that, I already hate gaming media sites like Kotaku, and all of that as is, and once it hit's those sites, hours later another article is up saying it was shut down, etc. |

Nintendo refuses to learn from their mistakes. They know they have an army of mindless players that will run out and buy anything they make. A lot of us have seen them for what they are and refuse to buy their stuff. Yes,all game makers do this, but most are quick to change stance when they see the hatred they receive and accept the fan games and they will do what Nintendo won't,pay the people for their games and then allow fans to play them, either as a free model or a pay model. They see it as free advertising and will allow it for the most part. |

Nintendo is on it's very last leg already, it's final cash cow for its home entertainment systems being the Nintendo NES mini (which is a rather pointless system to buy and doesn't include half the good games for the original NES ) won't sell in my opinion simply because most gamers over the age of 14 don't want to play old games on a system using graphics from the 1980's-1990's era, the only people who may buy it are people who don't know how to obtain or use roms or emulators and or old school gamers looking to reflect on their childhood. Nintendo is failing miserable with their home entertainment systems to the point where they can't compeat with Sony or microsoft( seriously when have you ever heard someone say hey wanna play the wii online together?) but in addition Nintendo's only profitable franchise left in my opinion is Pokemon and Mario which also in my opinion has been cramped so far down gamers throats with their constant releases they have sort of gotten to be a bit despised by gamers and the games have only gotten worse and worse for every new release each year. Nintendo has failed to evolve with the times and changes in the gaming community and not to mention hasn't created any "new" or "refreshing" game franchises or characters or games for that matter in the last decade, they seem to be dead set on releasing the same game from washed up franchises each year with games like NEW NEW SUPER MARIO BROS 59 and Pokemon ( Anyways it doesn't surprise me Nintendo is taking down its illegal game roms and hacks I honestly expected this from them and every gaming company/ digital media company for that matter but I just don't see what there getting out of doing it, since they are only hurting there fans and purchasers of their games not to mention with torrent sites and the piratebay you'll never be able to keep your digital content from being released for free online plus since it's already out there online you'll never be able to full take it all down. In conclusion it just seems like to me Nintendo has been decaying for years and are trying desperately to survive off of old/past glories with the whole "remaking" or "porting" of old games(that nobody's probably heard of or care about) to new consoles, Nintendo has failed to be innovative and creative with creating new and lasting franchises and so now they are paying the price for their lack of new innovations and struggling to survive this is there final plan,it's sink or swim time for Nintendo now and from the looks of it Nintendo is going to drown.. but in addition Nintendo's only profitable franchise left in my opinion is Pokemon and Mario which also in my opinion has been cramped so far down gamers throats with their constant releases they have sort of gotten to be a bit despised by gamers and the games have only gotten worse and worse for every new release each year. Even though this sucks, Nintendo does own the IP's that people are making games for and they do have the right to shut it down. |

Way to keep angering and driving your fans away, Nintendo. I hate to think it, but with each move they make, it is more and more evident that the Nintendo we loved died with Iwata. Now we have a soulness robot banker running the show, NOA running amuck making terrible "localization" and "translations", DMCA's at literally anything they can find, and the games are growing more and more lackluster, while the pointless DLC piles higher and higher. They also have given absolutely NO information about their new system, the one they want to help them recover from the disaster that was the Wii U's short life-cycle. This is probably one of their biggest mistakes from a financial standpoint. Not telling us what the heck a system is, and only acknowledging it's existence twice will not get too many people interested. They really need to wake the heck up, before it's too late. And with each game they churn out, and each mass takedown of fan created content, they just dig their grave just an inch or two deeper. It obviously sucks that Nintendo is doing this, but from a business perspective, it does make sense. Both sides of the issue are easy to see. It's sad that so many passion projects were taken down, but at the same time, it's Nintendo's IP, and they have the right to it. None of this is any reason to hate Nintendo. It's just business. |

A user of this : With all due respect to the man (especially since he's passed on), the Nintendo we loved died long before Iwata I think. Honestly they started spiraling during the Wii's days and hit full stride after Wii U. C&D orders for fan projects and forced profit shares for uploaded LPs started long before Iwata passed.
This part is personal opinion, but I think Iwata is the one that began their downward spiral. This part is personal opinion, but I think Iwata is the one that began their downward spiral. |

Eirinn : Yeah, that junk happened back then, but never has it been this aggressive. They even posted on their twitter yesterday that they were hiring IP and Copyright Enforcers. They weren't kidding by the way. https://nintendo.taleo.net/careersection/10000/jobdetail.ftl?job=160000001A&lang=en&src=SNS-10380
Publicly posting this, being 100% serious about it, and explaining the job while under a LOT of scrutiny shows just how little of a crap they give about their fans. We now live in the reality where Sega is doing better than Nintendo. For such a quick hedgehog, he sure is good about playing the long game... Oldschool777 : While I do understand that they have the right to do so, nintendo really should let some things go. The AM2R ordeal is one of them. I mean, it's not like nintendo actually cares about metroid, ever since they let team ninja screw it up, we've gotten nothing except a cameo in smash bros, one in nintendo land, and this stupid lego thing we are getting. I have played practically every metroid game, and would love even just to have an hd remaster at this point (Just not other m. While I really enjoyed that game at first, after playing nearly every other metroid, I really see how messed up it actually was) I get why they took down the pokemon fan game, but why leave Pokemon go? Nintendo isn't even acknowledged as far as I can see. I really wish they would start listening to their fans with some of their franchises (Paper Mario, Metroid, and Mario Party, mainly) [yeah, they actually managed to mess up mario party! Just when you think things can't get any worse. How about them just being a bunch of lazies and throwing bayonetta in smash bros 4? It's like, oh here, you can vote on any character you actually want...but it doesn't matter, because, we'll just throw in someone no one really wanted, and she'll break the game too! I hope they don't keep this garbage up. |

You have to remember,Nintendo has never been good about listening to the fans,or seeing trends,or when not to mess with stuff. We are talking about the same company that released the Virtual Boy,a system so bad and frail that you had to take breaks from playing the damned thing. They had forgotten what made them great back in their Golden Age. |

It's amazing how many people don't quite understand that Nintendo has the right to do what they want with what they own. Also Nintendo is on their last legs? LOL Far from that, that's about as ridiculous as saying Sony or Microsoft is on their last legs. All three companies are just fine. Also give it time, and when that new Legend of Zelda game gets released, people will be praising Nintendo like they are gods again. |

We get it,it is Nintendo's property. Now,I can understand it,but they are basically squandering resources and not giving people what they want. They have forgotten their lessons over 30 years ago. When the Famicom (Japanese NES) was released to save a struggling hanafuda (Japanese playing cards) manufacturer. Now,Nintendo does deserve some praise back then when they saved the video game industry from the crash. But as time marched on,they started to make decisions that were not wise. They did not pay attention to trends and the only real reason they are alive is because of Pokemon. They have forgotten their lessons and had become jaded. Those that do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The reason Nintendo exists to this day is simple, the fans. Those of us that welcomed the 2 toned gray box into our homes,to the next generation that discovered Pokemon,to those of us that look back on those memories and smile. Who here remembers when they beat Super Mario Brothers? Who here remembers using the Konami Code in Contra? Who here remembers all the secret codes they used to use in games to gain an edge? Nintendo has forgotten this fact. They are in their ivory tower, safe from judgment, content in their own self righteousness. But the facts are clear. Their Wii U was a flop, the Wii is little more than a kiddie console. The NX might be their last breath before shuffling off this mortal coil. Oldschool777 : You do realize since the N64 that the same stuff has been said that Nintendo is doomed, the N64 will be their last console, the GameCube will be their last, and the whole doom and gloom that people spew never happened? The Wii made them money, the Wii U while not as good still made them some money, and I am pretty sure the NX will do the same. It won't be their last breath, they got more then enough money to keep going for many many many years even if the NX is a failure. |

Two things have kept them above water the whole time,Heavy Metal Gamer. Pokemon and their virtual stranglehold on the handheld market. But,with mobile gaming taking off and offering better and more diverse games, the fat lady is warming up her pipes. |
