So, I've been playing soccer a lot for fun and for local clubs for almost my whole life now. Of course, soccer comes with its fair shares of injuries, and a few days ago, I got my first "real" injury. During practice, I jumped as hard as I could for a header and landing really badly, tearing one of the muscles in my lower back as a result. May I say: It hurts like crap. I went to the doctor's and I have an appointment with a chiropractor on Saturday, and I feel miserable. I have a limp and for the first few days, I could barely walk. I'm sure I'm out for at least a month.

This is easily the most pain I've ever had in a while, and I figured that you guys have all had your share of these injuries too, may it be a broken bone or a torn muscle like mine. So, I ask you, Vizzed: What's the worst injury you've ever had, sports or not?

I haven't been injured that much in my life. In fact, I have never broken anything before.

My worst injury would be the time when I almost broke my nose from a baseball. In 2009, I was 9 years old when it happened. I was running the wrong way like an idiot and got hit by the baseball. I was knocked out for 10 seconds and when I woke up I looked at my hand and I was screaming. My entire hand was red with blood. I was rushed to the hospital screaming the entire way. Doctor said that if the ball hit my nose 1 centimeter higher it would have broken my nose. Very lucky. :3

I've never had that bad an injury in my life. I suppose the worst one would be when I cracked my humerus in 2012.

I was running down a hill and I must have tripped over a rock or something because I fell suddenly and pretty much flew down the hill, landing on my left shoulder. OUCH. I was alone when it happened but some kids on a nearby sidewalk called an ambulance for me.

It wasn't bad and it healed in just a month, but it sure
felt bad!

Well, it depends on whether or not we count gaming complications lol. I once sprained, and I believe, permanently damaged my wrist playing Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 too hard against my little brother and ripped my palm open spinning the control stick too fast playing Mario Party. Other than that, I was climbing a tree once and chickened out. I started to climb back down, and wound up gashing my leg open on a very sharp twig on the side of it. Pretty wide and deep. Another time when I was really little, I was running around and smacked my face on the corner of some furniture, narrowly avoiding my eye. Another time, I was running barefoot through the front yard and impaled my right heel on a rusted piece of metal. Swelled up and got infected, and wound up lancing it twice. Then there was this other time when I was riding my bike really fast down a hill and this girl was riding in the opposite direction. I went to go around her, but she turned in front of me and we collided, flying over the handlebars and butting heads mid air. I don't even remember hitting the ground. I just remember waking up with a splitting headache about 15 feet from my bike. There was another time I sprained my ankle, but I can't quite recall how.... And then there are the multiple times that one of my dad's cats freaked out and ripped my arm open while I was holding it, narrowly missing any major arteries or veins. Not once have I ever went to the hospital or a clinic for anyone it though.

Oats : I'm sorry you're miserable.  Have you found things that bring you joy?  Sometimes, I've found that joy can actually come from an injury itself.  For example, when I injured my knee, I discovered that I was stronger and more patient than I knew.  I didn't realize that my knee was bloody until I undid my pants and examined it.  I spent a bit of time in the tub washing it off, and had to have gravel removed from my knee.  I still have a scar from that.  But I was patient and happy through it all, and I grew stronger because of it.  I don't regret the experience at all.  But during another experience, when my thumb got slammed by a car door, I was very nervous.  I felt that my thumb bone was broken.  However, when I went in, I discovered it was simply a very nasty bruise that I had.  I was super blessed, and I've never forgotten that.  I've never broken a bone.

m0ssb3rg935 : Dude.  I believe you must be alive for a reason, some purpose.  I'm not sure you'd be alive otherwise.  That's quite the injury list.

supernerd117 : I believe so too. Not that bad of a list though. I mean, I'm living the life compared to my uncle. He's been in like... 7 car wrecks, twice thrown from the vehicle. He's broken tons of bones, has permanent nerve damage, wrecked bikes, hit deer, been run over, slipped on ice and messing up his shoulder and cracking ribs, heart issues, high blood pressure and an alcoholic to top it off. Financially, I'd say we've had it worse than most I have ever known, but physically, we've been spared.

The worst injury I ever had was when I was playing football with a few friends at school. One of them tacked me and I fell to the ground with my right arm out. I wouldn't say that I broke it, but rather sprained it. Lasted for a couple of weeks before finally healing.

I broke my ankle by going down the stairs in my house. I kept getting asked if I was drunk and nope - it was 9am lol. I ended up requiring surgery and being on crutches. It was a fun couple of months.

Surprisingly I haven't had very many injuries considering I've played football for most of my life. The worst injury I've got was last year when I hurt my hip flexor, it made it very hard to walk although I managed. I've had a few ankle and shoulder injuries but nothing too major.

I don't think I had much injury but if I did it would be me falling down the stairs. Its not as if I did it on purpose its because we one leg of mine is longer than the other. Or having to fall up the stairs or trip up. I try to make sure at times it doesn't happen very often but its hard. I think I had another for my head at one point. It must had been when I accidentally hut it on the wall in the middle of my sleep. I woke up in pain wondering how it happened. :/

Thanks for all of the well wishes from you guys. I appreciate it.

m0ssb3rg935 :

Dude... Is your family cursed? All kidding aside, all of those injuries and you're still okay without anything long-lasting? I envy your strength man. I hope it gets less frequent though. And I'm pretty sure your uncle is the luckiest yet unluckiest person I've heard of.

supernerd117 :

I'm actually enjoying this injury much more than I thought, like you said. I'm getting to reconnect with friends on Vizzed and play more video games because my injury is stopping me from going outside/playing sports. I'm impressed about that knee injury: You didn't notice it, even when you had gravel in it? That is strength. I've learned that I really can persevere through this stuff and rehabilitate on my own. For example, since the muscle on my right is the one torn, my left foot is getting way more use, and is slowly becoming really good! I like your advice: it adds a bright side to a normally dark situation. Thanks!

dkmec20 :

That's funny, the muscle that's torn in my back is a part of my hip flexor. Did you tear it, or was it just hurt?

If my mother had a super power, she'd probably (lovingly) be called Super Worry-Wart.  She sheltered her children and protected them so well that I can hardly remember a single injury.  I have never broken, fractured, sprained, or even twisted anything.  I've been bitten by ants, but not stung by a bee.

Thus, the worst injury I've ever had (and it was no accident), was during the birth of my son. XD  It was the first time I had to get stitches, it took about six weeks to heal.  That was -definitely- the worst pain I've ever experienced, but it was so... so very worth it.

Oats : I didn't go to a real doctor, I just went to our trainer and I don't think he ever told me exactly what was wrong. If I recall he said something about a tear but I think it was a minor one.

In my entire life, I had only 2 injuries (one major and one minor)

Back in August 2009, I was on top of a ladder cleaning some gutters and the ladder started to slip and I fell down with it and I end up landing with my right leg and in result, I ended up breaking my right calf bone. Around a half-hour after falling off the ladder, I remember my right lower leg doubled in size, so I went to the hospital and told me about my injury. I was in a cast for around a couple of month after that happened and that was no fun. But as soon as my injury healed, I was happy.

Although I had another injury back in Summer 2014 where I dislocated my left wrist. Apparently, pulling a heavy object up really fast wasn't a good idea, I thought it was light, but it was a lot heavier than I though, but that dislocation only lasted a few week when before it was popped back in place.

Other than those 2 injuries, I haven't had any others.

I've only suffered from two major injuries in my life as well. I was in kindergarten when I broke my left arm. I was playing around on the top of the couch and I fell off and landed on my arm and I ended up making such a commotion that my Mom immediately ran down the stairs to see what was amiss. Shortly after breaking my arm, I ended up busting my right foot because I was running down the hallway too fast and I ended up abruptly impacting the wall to slow down. This was about a year or two after my first injury.

Other than that though, I've never had a serious physical injury in about 14 years. Hopefully I can continue to keep it that way.

Oats :   I have been very lucky to not have ever broken a bone, and I am gonna be 35 in a few months and have been working on cars for over a decade.  I did however put my knife through my leg about an inch deep on accident opening a cardboard box at work and had to get it stapled shut.  Walked around with a cane for a few weeks while the muscle healed.  Does voluntary injury count?  Back in my youth...19 or so, I let a girl sit on my back and do some carvings with a surgical scalpel.  Not going to go into detail as to what is on my back, but it not very "christian"
