The original to me is better than the remake. Nothing wrong with the remake, its just the "you can't beat the original" and I just don't like levels that have to have gimmicks to characters.

I like Super Mario 64 DS better, because it has more characters. I know it's practically a remake of the N64 version but with better graphics, but before I played the DS version, I always wanted to play as Yoshi, Wario, Luigi, and all the other characters. Pretty much the DS version made that happen, so I like that one better.

The original is better quality wise. The remake would be better than the original if it was a console game and it didn't force you to use specific characters for more than the Cap ability stars and you didn't need to use Mario to unlock the Bowser stages.

I like Super Mario 64 DS more because that's the version that I first played. I think it's an improved (and portable) version of the original since you have 4 different characters to choose from (once you unlock all of them) and there's mini-games to play if you ever get tired of searching for Stars. There's also extra levels and Stars, which is why I prefer the DS version over the original N64 version.

They both their advantages and disadvantages but overall I prefer the original.

I like the multiplayer in the DS one but it didn't quite play the same as the original.
I have never liked the controls for the DS or in my case the DSI (excluding metroid prime hunters). Even with the N64's alien suitable controller it still feels better to play on as a vaguely remember playing it on my dad's friends N64.

I think if they remade the game for the 3DS then I would probably prefer that, the 3DS remake of Ocarina of Time was amazing.

I prefer Super Mario 64 DS. I mainly prefer this version because I always had a hard time with the controller for Nintendo 64. The DS version also had a few fixes a very minor bugs I encountered. Anyways, I prefer Super Mario 64 DS. ~Punchofdeath

When I was very young, I played the original a lot (when I was 4 or 5). A friend of mine had the DS version and I played it enough to have a legitimate decision. The DS version has a lot of extra content that wasn't available before (including multiplayer capabilities) which makes it a worthy opponent. But my main issue is that you're trying to port a console game to a handheld. There isn't any analog control in the on the DS and since a different method of texture mapping is used compared to the actual 64, the textures are very choppy. I also recall having issues with the camera control. Other than that it's quite playable and very enjoyable for a handheld game of it's kind and the hardware limitations are the only things that get in the way. Overall I see the original game for the 64 to be superior in gameplay and control. So the DS version isn't bad, but not as good as the original in my opinion.

Even though I've played Super Mario 64 DS before Super Mario 64, I can honestly say that I prefer the N64 version. It has much more comfortable controls, not to mention the fun with the infamous backwards long jump.

PacmanandMariofan : well i like the ds version better because in super mario 64 the origial they couldn't put luigi in the game(though he was about to appear) but he couldn't appear because shigeru miyamoto couldn't make mario and luigi in 3d playing at the same time because it was hard.the ds version includes: mario, luigi, yoshi and wario as playbable character(i wanted also waluigi to play). the ds version is more fun in my opinion

It's a tough choice, sure, but I'd go with the latter. Mario 64 DS has more characters, more stars, and is overall an expansion to the already amazing original.

I liked the original Super Mario 64 more because the cotrols were easier and it gives me a feeling of nostalgia.

I prefer the DS version mostly because of the graphics. Yeah, there are a few minor setbacks, but I like this game because of the graphics and the fact that it is a portable game.

super Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 is a great game and i have had it for many years and the game play is good and the boss fights are cool in some ways but the DS is better in many ways like you can play as 3 new charters which is cool and the graphics are not that bad for a DS game and it stuck with the old levels and the old music and the added mini games that are great but the most important thing is that you get an extra 30 stars in the DS version so there is 150 stars in total but there is no secret for it and that's a let down but DS version is better no matter what but it was to easy and this is true i had all 150 stars on all 3 files

I really like the DS version over the Nintendo 64 version of Super Mario 64 because
1. The graphics are much less pixelated and better
2. It has 30 more stars to collect, extending gameplay time
3. It has mini games to extend replay value.
4. It has multiple characters (No, it does not have Waluigi)
5. Has multiple player capabilities
I do agree that it is slower than the original game, but in a 3D game, Super Mario 64 DS's speed is good, being not too fast, but not too slow either.

I like the DS version better. I have played the DS version and it just seems like there was a lot more to do and collect. While in the original you could only play as one character. Which when you think about it really lowers the amount of stars you can get considering how many you need a specific character for.
