Yes I think they are fair because younger users aren't mature enough to make well thought out decisions that could effect the board and other members.

I think its fair, some things are just to much for the younger side of the site, and best kept for more seasoned eyes so to speak.
And sometimes, you need that maturity to make the right choices. Especially when it is within a community of people.

earthwarrior : No offense,You don't count, you are a very special case/instance and you are very different from other users your age and have matured very quickly in my opinion and you are the youngest staff member  because  you actually do things that contribute to the site.And lets suppose a 11 year old is made into staff and he throws a temper tantrum because he has just been beat at a game in a RPG competition on the board and then goes to the members profile that beat him and rates him down and because of that rate down that member goes from trusted to normal.

I think, like all age restrictions, they are unfair, but neccessary . In other words, I don't think they should be removed, for various reasons.

Age restrictions are always unfair, because age isn't a universal indicator of maturity or how capable or incapable someone is, as I have seen 14 year olds that were far more mature than some 24 year olds that I've known. For that matter, I was actually friends with a 10 year old that was every bit as mature and capable with responsibilities as a 16 year old. So age restrictions are unfair to kids like that, but they are neccessary unfortunately, as it would be crazy to expect David to check everyone for maturity levels. It just wouldn't be possible. There are more reasons, but I'll stop at this.

Go to school and listen to some of the kids there. Quite a bit of them do really stupid things. The Internet gives them the option to do all of the stupid crap they want to, and never have anyone now who they are. So they do things like flame people for no reason an make spammy threads, and they do it to their hearts content (maybe even a little more.) Davideo7 is lenient enough with those immature idiots. There are few forums where we are safe from them, and you want there to be less safe space. We aren't going to let them into the adult forums, because why do they need to be there? We draw the line with chat at 13, because lets be honest, some weird stuff gets said. And we sure as heck aren't going to let some 12 or below year old be a global or local. I was mature enough to do it at that age, but less than 10% of 12 year olds today actually are. I don't want to take that risk, and I'm sure you don't either.

It's interesting reading some of the posts here. I understand where some people think that rules and restrictions are not fair. I'm sure I felt the same way when I was younger and not "old enough" to do certain things.

I think all the rules on Vizzed are fair. Heck some of them are probably more lenient than they should be.

Any age restrictions are done for the good of the users. Sure there are certain people that are the exceptions to a particular rule, but that's the point THEY ARE THE EXCEPTIONS to the rule, not the STANDARD.

In most application situations it's always stated that the age restriction isn't set in stone. If you prove that you can handle it and you are mature we usually give you a chance.

I completely agree with Jordanv78. I think that waiting to meet the age requirements is also important, though. It helps teach patience, allows the person in question to gain more intellect (because maturity isn't always enough), and does help keep things "fair". I think that even the exceptions need to be picked carefully, as they should really be role models for the younger users, as many of my peers on Vizzed are to me.

Yes 6 year olds shouldn't be allowed to just go into cafe corner and look at the more mature side of vizzed, just my 2 cents in action though.

Age restrictions have always been a necessity. Without them, we could have young people getting confused about the older generations and it could therefore confuse them. There are things that could affect them in horribly negative ways.

Really? Of course the age restrictions are fair. Think of it this way. If a 10 y/o has access to a adult discussion, their momma's gonna get real mad real quick. lol. I totally agree with Jordan. If there was no age restrictions, many of the older users would have to walk a very fine line to ask even relationship questions and such. It would overall reduce the fun for some older users. I mean, I know there are conversations I've participated in which are totally fine for me but would be inappropriate for someone younger. And seeing as there's no good way to implement parent permission needed access, age is the best way.

Hmm... No, I do not think their fair. Why? You should ask? It makes all of the other kids cry, and then older people will brag about their age,
and then it'll start crap. 

Another reason is that I agree with Eirinn and some other people that have posted in this thread. That some users are mature enough to pass that restriction.

I'm getting really tired of all these threads that are over-analyzing all the rules on Vizzed.

If the staff feel someone who is under-age deserves a spot on staff then they will get it. We put that rule in to place to discourage the majority of members from thinking they can become staff because most aren't mature enough.

And this rule is not causing harm to the younger members. You're better off not being staff now and waiting until you are old enough. I've seen too many people get promoted who thought they were mature enough only to get demoted because they did something stupid. It's for your own good.
