I don't think parents should let their kids play these at such a young age because most kids that are that age are easily influenced by the game. If your kid was really mature I guess that would be different but I don't know alot of 9 year olds that are mature. I really don't think those are good games in my opinion anyways.. it influences not only little kids but grown adults to cuss and do things that are not necessary.

If the kid is a spoiled brat in his house it may be why he plays that games, or maybe his mom lets him and doesn't seem to care about rating.

It has to do with the Child.
If he or she is mature enough then they should be allowed, also it depends on the game.
FPS games seem to be ok and in my opinion if your child knows not to be aggressive or violent in real life situations.

However I wouldn't let any child play some horrific games like GTA V with the strip clubs and other Porno graphic scenes, Mortal Kombat and it's extremely colorful gore and Silent Hill, I would want a child to actually be able to sleep.

Well.... there are alot of M rated games that I don't think kids should be playing.... & Grand Theft Auto is definitely too much for a kid I'd say.... but if it is a game of shooting Zombies or Monsters I think that is fine as long as the kid knows difference  between those gamez & the real world..... but like I said I personally don't think that kids should be playing GTA or anything like that!!

It depends on how mature someone is. If they can understand the difference between a game and real life, then I think it should be okay to let them play an M rated game.

All goes down to the person, for anything in life.I have played many rated M games and I have enjoyed playing them very much, games like God of War,Red Dead Redemption, and Call of Duty (Only black ops and black ops 2).I am no different now than I was before I have played those games. On the other hand there are people who play these games and their minds gets DESTROYED.In the end though, all based on the person.

Wow, this thread has been going a loooong time...   But, really it depends on the kid. video games do not make you violent. BUT, CoD has a lot of language in it, and some depressing missions, Halo: Reach can be the same. If a game affects you in a bad way, you probably shouldn't play it.   Playing games online, where people use bad language a lot, I find myself using it too, so I usually stop playing.  But, if I can sit down and play a game, have fun, and not be any different, then that game is OK!

Well it depends on the kid. And maturity level. It's probably the maturity level. People can just be spreading rumors all over school and saying bad words everywhere and stuff. My old school was filled with people that plays shooters and Adult games or ones rated Mature.

I saw a 7 year old playing an shooting game which was MW3 and he said it was his favorite game.

I think a couple of things go into a kid wanting to play these games. One is that kids only have the mindset that they are the heroes in the game (ie. GTA) and that they don't understand that fact. As a result they want to act like them, which explains the swearing, stabbing and shooting. Another is that kids don't ant to play rated E games, they want to play the games that are rated T and R.

As for kids who act like brats. I don't know why it works this way, if anyone knows that would be great to post, but kids tend to act better when they are not exposed to technology. Me having several younger siblings, my house is much more liveable when my brothers and sisters do something that doesn't involve a screen.
