There's not a lot of information I can give out about this video but my source claims it was leaked by someone who was recording a Presentation of the Dreamcast 2 in Japan on their Cell Phone. I will post more information as I receive it in this thread.



Not sure if the 10/10/10 at the beginning is a launch date, probably not since that's in only 4 months and I would really doubt Sega could keep quiet for that long. It could be a date when the Dreamcast 2 would be officially revealed, not sure. Here's the patent Sega filed a while back:

"home video game machines; player-operated electronic controllers for electronic video game machines; video game interactive controller, namely, hand held pads, and floor pads or mats; joysticks for video games; computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mouse; flash memory cards; video game software, computer game programs"

Based on the patent and the video, it's safe to assume that Dreamcast 2 is also going to support Motion Control since it says so in the video and the patent says "floor pads or mats". Sounds like it'll also have an interactive controller, basically taking the concept of the DS (with it's touch screen) and the VMU and merging it into your actual controller "interactive controller".



Whether it's true or not at the moment is uncertain but it sure seems real.

Sorry but I think this is a fake, and it's a really badly done presentation for something that is supposed to be real.
Sega's president, Simon Jeffery, was pretty adament about the "Dreamcast 2" stuff in 08.
"At E3 2008 Jeffery told Sega fans there is not going to be a new console from Sega, and no current plans to develop a Shenmue 3".
He even states in interviews that it would make no sense financially to do something like this because it would effectivly sever the ties Sega currently has to Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

What with the Sonic game coming out this year on all three platforms, I have to say this is pretty far fetched.

DH: That was 2 years ago, plenty of things can change. 2 years ago Square Enix said that there would never be an FFVII remake, but now they're talking about it.

As for the interactive controller, I hope they don't have a touch screen that's used actually for games (it would be a great interface for exploring inside the Dreamcast 2 and the games menus, but not for actual games, unless mini-games) and motion controls. I could see very well how things could get gimicky if the DC 2 had these things.

Rasenganfan2 : I'd actually love the idea of a Controller with a touch screen. Here are some cases where it'd come in handy:
1. Playing an RPG, you're inventory and menu would be on the controller
2. Playing sport games against someone next to you, you could pick your plays on the controller
3. Touch Screen Keyboard and also a great device to chat with people you're playing with
4. Mini games you can play on the go (similar to VMU but with DS quality graphics and power)
Possibilities are endless.

Hrm... I'm skeptical as well, due mainly to the fact that SEGA still has close ties with all three console developers (Sonic 4 isn't even out yet, and is to be released in episodes... I doubt they'd give up on that so quickly).
As for if it were real and there is a touch-screen controller... well, as long as it was kept for some stuff that's not nearly as easy with buttons, I'm OK. If it were to get gimmicky, then... bad idea.

Rasenganfan2 : Square Enix will remake any FF game, so it's no twist that they're going to remake that one. Honestly, I have a hard time beliving Sega can pull this off in an economic market like this. I really hope that third party support will be strong, and honestly? Sega wasn't strong as they once were, and a lot of their older IPs were terrible (Sonic really falls in this category once you play it these days and Golden Axe)

Also, I hope that they do, like you said, get plenty of third-party support. Get some Konami. Better yet, get some Hideo Kojima. METAL GEAR SOLID ON THE DREAMCAST 2! f*** YEAH!

Yeah that controller looks amazing if it is used right. I could completly see this happening in the next couple years. I was also intersested in backwards compatibility and the top line of the sequels screen (Shesume 3 and Sonic Adventure 3.)

Davideo7 : I think this could be a fake but If I were in control of sega i'd try it cuz it sounds like they are using the other console runs as an experiment then trying to take the best elements from all of them to make an even better one. If its real it would be tight.

fightorace : Considering all the 3rd-party support they have currently by being a game-only company, I think it would actually be wiser to stay that way for now. Most of their own IP's are either stale or forgotten by now, or just weren't good in the first place, and getting their own 3rd-party support wouldn't be too easy this late in the game. If they were to jump back in, I'd wait until Wii, PS3, and 360 are about to die out and give way to the next generation. So in other words, while I think it would be neat, it would be best to wait it out, and jump in next gen, rather than in the middle of this one. Which means waiting until 2015 or so, given the current condition of things and statements made by the console developers.

I think it could be real but , would it compete. Mabye but why wold they make just a portable console,it makes little logic but we shall see.

Yeah, I tend to agree with DH. Sega has been off the console market for so long... They don't really make games anymore, though I could be wrong. I have not been very active on the video games bit for a while now. maybe Shenmue 3 will come out produced by someone else? Doubting it though.

bignatealpha : yes it would be neat and I believe many others would agree but the questions I think don't need to be about support from 3rd party's, they should be more focused on would people buy it. Generally console generations last 5 years i think we are in year 6 of this generation and while most believe in a 10 year cycle this time business can be defined by bold moves such as starting the next generation and not waiting for the big boys to tell you when its time. U did have a good point about their original ips though not a lot of good ones but I believe sega has enough money and clout within the video game business to develop new ips and 3rd party relations, sadly while it would by kinda cool (I would buy it) I don't think it would be smart judging by the outing of their last two systems. Maybe some better ads? or generate hype better or something cuz the dreamcast was competing against much inferior systems at the time at couldn't get a foothold, whats up with that?

fightorace : 3rd Party Support is the most important part, if you just base on what Sega think is a good game, you won't have a lot of sales. Why do you think the CD-i or 3DO flopped? High prices and third party support was almost non-existent. Also your point of a cycle doesn't make sense because Sega needs more sales from the Dreamcast, if you have a console that will never upgrade how will it get more sales when nearly everyone has it? Also Sega didn't have a lot of good ip's, apart from Bayonetta and a few other handheld games most of their attempts to resurrect their old series were complete flops.

The Dreamcast flopped because it was released at the wrong time, just when the PS2 was coming out. If the Dreamcast came out a year later and supported DVD and better graphics then it would've been a big hit.

fightorace : Starting the next generation 5 years before the competition is ready isn't exactly a wise move... developers' games will still look best on the other companies' hardware, because the developers have had more time to figure it out. While you may catch them off guard, chances are they'll continue on their path to the better system, and you'll lack much of the 3rd party support necessary to stay in the race; either that, or your versions of the games would get crappy scores in reviews and nobody will buy them. Waiting it out would be the best move.

As for the video... it said something about backwards compatibility?! That just makes no sense at all! If they keep this "backwards compatibility" to download services (in the vein of Virtual Console or whatever the PSN's PlayStation classic download service is called) then it might work, but I really don't think backwards compatibility with original DC titles is the best idea. And what are they gonna do about all those SEGA systems on VC? You can't just purge the game files from people's Wii's...
