Donkey Kong Jr 07-01-14 10:20 PM |
Mario goes to the DARK SIDE Welcome to my review of Donkey Kong Jr. I just decided to review this game for the heck o' it, so let's do this: In the 80's the Donkey Kong games were known as the best arcade classics. Now, we're gonna dig deep into an early Nintendo game. We all know about the original Donkey Kong, which was known by millions. So, does Donkey Kong Jr. come close to the standards of the original Donkey Kong? Let's find out! Story: 4/10 The story is flipped, but honestly it still doesn't change anything. In this game Mario is actually the villain himself. The story is about Mario kidnapping Donkey Kong (Revenge, bro). Donkey Kong's son embarks to rescue his father from the clutches of the apparently evil Mario. This is the first Mario game where Mario is actually the villain, which a lot of people were probably surprised about. I'm guessing Nintendo tried to add a twist to the already monotonous plot line, but when you think about it, they changed literally nothing, so that's why I gave this category such a short rating. Depth: 2/10 This game honestly offers next to nothing. There's three levels which like the original Donkey Kong, you can play endlessly to get a high score, assuming you even want to try. There's a few items to score extra points, but there's only three levels and that's about all this game offers in depth. There's the original 2-player mode, which you don't even play simultaneously, so compared to it's predecessor, it adds nothing new to the curve. Difficulty: 3/10 This installment is about as difficult as it's predecessor. In other words, it's incredibly easy. If you're looking for a challenging arcade game, this game isn't exactly for you. Not only is there only three levels, but the enemies are easy to dodge, plus the level design is super linear, like the original of the series. Graphics: 6/10 The graphics are pretty good for the standards of the year the game was released. It giv... Read the rest of this Review |
Snow Brothers 07-01-14 06:58 PM |
Because Mario wasn't good enough Welcome to my review of Snow Brothers! I was in the mood to do a review for an arcade game this time around, so here it is: Snow Brothers. Where do I begin? Well I actually discovered this game in March. I went to my local video game store, and found an NES cartridge in the glass case they put their most valuable games in. It was called "Snow Brothers," and they were selling it for $155. That's an awful lot for an NES game, especially for just the cartridge. I looked it up, and found out Snow Brothers is a rare and very obscure NES gem. I played it on Vizzed, and I was actually impressed. Before I could buy it, somebody already snagged it at the store :P. So I decided to review Snow Brothers for the NES. Let's dig in. Graphics: 8/10 This game has very good graphics. This NES game was released in 1992, and that was when NES game started getting graphics as high quality as a Super Nintendo game. I honestly think the graphics in this game are very good. I like how they stand out, and everything is distinguishable. The graphics just show this charm that's really hard to explain. The graphics are rather colorful. It's like a Kirby game, to be honest. There's not really much to say about the graphics in this game, so let's move on... Sound: 7/10 This game doesn't have much of a soundtrack, really, but the few songs in this game, I did enjoy. I thought they were really catchy. But what I liked most in the sound department are the sound effects. They remind me of your average 80's arcade game, and give you that sense of nostalgia. The sound effects are probably the best I've heard in any arcade game from this time. I wouldn't say they go above and beyond expectations though, and this game was released in 1992, but they're good none of the less. Addictiveness: 8/10 Like a lot of arcade games, this game in particular is very addicting. It's an awful lot like Mario, really. It's basically like a spin-off of Mario Bros, the ... Final Fantasy VII 07-01-14 03:27 PM |
A Realm Reborn (This is supposed to be for Alex's Trials of Vizzed competition, but it's still a review, so...yeah) Hello and welcome to a very special review. I'm supposed to create a post on my favorite video game for the Trials of Vizzed, so here it is. This is a game that I've had mixed feelings about reviewing, but I finally decided I was going to do it. Why? A week ago, I finished this game after last playing it when I was ten years old. And it really opened my eyes. Here, my favorite video game of all time; Final Fantasy VII. I have no other words for this introduction, so let's just jump right in. In the late 90's, the talk o' the town was Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. The Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 were the two hot systems at the time. In 1998, you were either hearing about Ocarina of Time...or Final Fantasy VII. This game was huge! And back then, many people didn't even know about the previous Final Fantasy games, so this was Square Soft's (Or Square Enix's) comeback. Nowadays, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII are known as one of the best games ever. Because of the success of Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix continued to make even more games in the franchise. I believe you've heard about Final Fantasy XIII? Yeah, forget that piece of crap. Today, Final Fantasy VII is considered one of the best, if not, the best game ever made. And I agree with the fandom who say this. But Pixel! Why IS this your favorite game, and why is THIS specific game known as the best? Well I can answer that. In my review for Final Fantasy VII... Story: 10/10 I think this review would be more fitting if I start with this category. You'll see why. The plot of this game is a big reason on why this is considered the best game of all time. It's also a major reason of why a certain someone (*Cough* *Cough* *Haaaaacccck* Davideo7) likes this game so much. The story revolves around a gargantuan city known as Midgar. The president o... Mortal Kombat II 06-30-14 05:33 PM |
Mortal Review 2 (Corny title) Welcome to my review for the famous Mortal Kombat. This'll be a rather interesting review. I mean, it's for an M-rated game. I've actually never done this before. Before I start, if you're willing to check out this game, be warned, there's blood and gore...and a lot of it. We all know how Mortal Kombat became famous. Mortal Kombat became famous for its blood and gore, and most importantly, the fatalities. When Mortal Kombat 1 was released in the early 90's, Sub-Zero's "Spine Rip" move sparked a lot of controversy, as well as Kano's heart rip. Mortal Kombat even spawned the pointless rating system, the ESRB. That's right, we're digging deep into the reason you couldn't play Resident Evil in your childhood. Mortal Kombat was without a doubt the bane of every parent's nightmare. They believed their children would become bullies or criminals, as if ripping someone's head off is physically possible. But now, we're focusing on the sequel that was better in every way, more violent, more gruesome, Mortal Kombat 2. Let's dig in! Graphics: 9/10 You've probably heard of Mortal Kombat 9, released in 2011. That game had excellent graphics, but this is a different story. Mortal Kombat was released back when video games were family friendly. If this game was released on the Atari or NES, or any other 8-bit system or just had bad graphics in general, that's a different story. But when Mortal Kombat 2 has graphics such as this, it's no wonder parents were biting their nails when they took their children to the arcades. Mortal Kombat utilized digital graphics. Every character is a real person doing the moves. Cool, huh? This makes the characters more realistic. The blood and gore in this game is great, but the blood looks a bit like ketchup. It was 1994, but back then, the blood in this game was like nothing ever witnessed. The gore is actually pretty realistic for Super Nintendo standards. The characters have smooth textures, as well as the stages themselves. The s... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers 05-21-14 09:19 PM |
Street Fighter II: The New Review, er I mean..Challengers Okay, after playing Street Fighter 2 Turbo, I decided to revisit one of my favorite video games of all time: Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. Now I haven't reviewed a game on Vizzed in a long time, so I may be out of touch. Now, Street Fighter is an interesting game. Almost every Street Fighter game ended up in arcades because of its arcade style fighting game, like Mortal Kombat. Street Fighter II on Game Boy was mediocre, but it got a great upgrade. And the Super Nintendo can do that to a series. Super Mario World is considered the best Mario game of all time, and Super Metroid is...well, you get the idea. Street Fighter even got an animated television series, crappy movie adaptations, and there was the animated movies which actually had something to do with Street Fighter. But anyways, I shouldn't ramble on, let's get my Street Fighter marathon started. I'll be reviewing every Street Fighter game I can find. Let's get started. Story: 5/10 The Street Fighter story line is rather simple. Fighters from around the world compete in the "Street Fighter Circuit" to determine who is the best fighter in the world, and the star, Ryu, wants to become the world warrior as well as everyone else. The Street Fighter movies do open up a little more about the plot, for an example, Sagat of Thailand, murdered Ryu's father. M. Bison killed Chun Li's master, Gen. Ryu and Akuma, who isn't even in this game, were close, but they then became rivals. If you're looking for the story in the video games, look else where. The story in the game is average, but the movies will do a much better job explaining the plot. Depth: 5/10 Street Fighter is NOT a long game at all. You fight 12 people in a random order, however the final 4 are set at a specific order. You can play as these characters: Ryu of Japan, E. Honda of Japan, Blanka of Brazil, Guile of U.S.A, Balrog of U.S.A, Ken of U.S.A, Chun Li of China, Zangief of the U.S.S.R, Dhalsim of India, Saga... Read the rest of this Review |
Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time 01-14-14 08:05 PM |
A Very Overrated Game, I'd Say (Over 3,000 words) Welcome to my review for Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. This is a game I've wanted to review since I started posting game reviews which is around the time I joined Vizzed. I am finally reviewing this game, and the reason I haven't reviewed Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System is because whenever I'm half way there, I accidentally hit a certain key that sends me back to the previous page. This has happened three times, and I'm not about to take any chances. Anyways, Ocarina of Time is one of the most overrated video games of all time. To this day, Ocarina of Time is still considered an amazement in technology. They even enhanced this game for the Nintendo 3DS, and Robin Williams appeared in one of its commercials. In the late 90's people weren't talking about Final Fantasy VII, they were mostly talking about Ocarina of Time. It was the Nintendo 64 era, and a lot of franchises got their turn into the 3D shift. Even Paper Boy got his share. In 1998, it was Zelda's turn. I mean, this game was HUGE! There was NOTHING like it. So basically, Nintendo took the formula of A Link To The Past and Zelda 1 and shifts the land into 3D. There was a Nintendo Power issue that was all about the game, countless commercials, but the most memorable, this one: "Wilst thou get the girl, or play like one?" Ouch! Taunting in a NINTENDO commercial. Guessing that one didn't last on the air that long. Then I was curious. I was dying to play the game nobody seemed to shut up about. I thought, eh. It's a cool game, but not as good as people claim it to be. Multiple ports have been released of this game because of its popularity. The Wii Virtual Console, the 3DS, the GameCube, and the Zelda anniversary ports for the GameCube. Though, I actually recommend playing this game on an actual Nintendo 64. More on that later. Back in the 90's, this game was the big thing, and every kid and a lot of adults had their hands on a copy, before you could even know it. Well, let's see how this... Read the rest of this Review |
Ninja Gaiden 01-13-14 08:06 PM |
Review Gaiden Ninja Gaiden....a trilogy I've waited long enough to review, now I'm starting. I will be reviewing Ninja Gaiden II and III after this. This game is a very special NES game, and it was probably the game to blow the minds of all the children in the 80's. Ninja Gaiden was released in 1989, developed by Tecmo, and it set a lot of standards. This game was a hit, and there was even a port on the SNES titled Ninja Gaiden trilogy. It contained Ninja Gaiden I, II, and III all in one neat little package. And I can finally review this game. This game was even referenced in the 1989 film, The Wizard. Back then, no one knew how to pronounce Gaiden. It was like Street Fighter. No one knew how to pronounce Ryu. In the movie, the old Chinese man that the three kids meet corrects them. "No! Ninja Gaiden!" A lot pronounced it GAY-DEN. But officially, it's GUY-DEN, in case you were wondering. Now, I know I'm probably boring you by going on about the history, so I'll just conclude this. Ladies and gents, here is my review for Review Ninja Gaiden. Story: 8/10 Okay, woah. The story of this game is VERY impressive. It's not just a bad guy kidnapping a princess, and the hero has to rescue her, no this is entirely different. This story is interesting and connecting because there's actual cutscenes in this game. There's dialogue, characters, and there's character sprites too. Every kid in the 80's wanted to find out what would happen next. After you beat a level, there's a cutscene, and thankfully, they're a good length. It was mind blowing for NES standards. The only thing I hated was that there's people carrying guns in the cutscenes. The main character even gets shot in the first. (SPOILER). When I was eight, I was paranoid that my mother would return the game if she found out about this. The main character even says throughout the trilogy, "What the.....?" He was obviously ending that sentence with the mother of curse words. It's very easy to comprehend the s... Read the rest of this Review |
Gradius 12-28-13 08:17 PM |
Konami's GRADest creation:Gradius Gradius...the shooting game VERY similar to 1943, that has been made for many systems and has gotten a sequel such as Gradius III, one of the Super Nintendo's launch titles. This is the first release of the Gradius series, and one of the Nintendo Entertainment System's earliest ports, released in early 1986. This game doesn't have much popularity because Gradius III pretty much took over. I went threw my game drawer today and found a mint and complete set of this game. ?But, let's just jump right in to a classic for the Nintendo Entertainment System... Overall: 8.1/10 I don't know why but I decided to just do this section first. Overall, I would rate this game an 8.1/10. The difficulty of this game makes this game a fun challenge, this game has GREAT music, the graphics are good for a 1986 port, and this game is also VERY addicting because of its difficulty. Sound and graphics don't matter, but they are a bonus to what makes this game addicting to play. When I found Gradius in my game drawer today, I was curious. I popped it in the Nintendo and started playing. I couldn't put it down. And I knew, overall, this game is really fun and addicting. The difficulty can get annoying at times, but this is still a great experience for casual video game players. Graphics: 7/10 Like I said, this game has great graphics for a 1986 port, but graphics don't really matter. I wouldn't say the graphics in this game are ASTONISHING, but this game does a good job explaining good graphics in the form of a great game. The sprites are well done, and everything is distinguishable because of the set pieces, but sometimes, and by that I mean the second half of the game, has locations that aren't very identifiable. What you play as, which is a ship, has good sprite work and the enemies and weapons look great. There's nothing bad about this game's graphics, to be frank. I don't know one part of this game that has bad sprites. And the locations that are unide... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario Bros 2 (8-bit all-stars gfx) 12-22-13 02:54 PM |
Super Mario Brothers (The Lost Levels) Not this game, not this game...well I reviewed Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now it's time to take a more...adventurous turn to...Super Mario Brothers....The Lost Levels. Or Super Mario Brothers 2. The original sequel...let's just get this started...Oh and by the way, I have to review a hacked version of the game because this game was never released outside of Japan. Making a sequel to an over-arching game is almost always an intimidating task, so let's see how this worked out for the better or worse, if appropriate. Story: 4/10 I'm not really gonna say anything about the story because I think at this point you all understand the under-arching story at this point. Bowser kidnapped Princess Peach and Mario has to save her. Nintendo didn't really add anything new, so this is why I'm giving the story a low rating. Depth: 6/10 Okay, this game offers a lot more than its predecessor. Remember when there was 32 levels in Super Mario Brothers? Well, now there's 48 levels. There has been four new worlds added. Worlds A - D. This is a long game because you need to beat worlds 1- 8 to even progress further...three times. Well let's see what this sequel has to offer. We still have our same-old power-ups. The Power Star, Fire Flower, and Mushroom. This game introduces the Poisonous Mushroom, which is still long remembered from the 16-bit version of this game revealed on the SNES game, Super Mario All Stars. Touching this power-DOWN is just like touching an enemy. So...don't touch it. What else has been added? Well, you know how in modern Mario games, you can perform a higher jump after stomping on an enemy if you pressed the jump button right when you hit the enemy? Well you can now do that in this game. And this has been added because you'd need to execute this a LOT of times throughout this game. What comes a new mechanic is times when you have to USE it, right? There's also been some graphical changes, but we'l... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario Bros 12-21-13 07:33 PM |
The NES Classic We All Know Mario, Mario, Mario. From video games, a ton of merchandise, its own failed movie, cartoons, to cereals! Mario surely is the most definite video game character. And that's saying a lot too. He has the personality of a cardboard box and he always finds himself rescuing an airhead princess. For over 25 years, Mario has seemed to appear in the best video games of all time. They're good. Really good. So, why don't we look into the heart of video games? Super Mario Brothers for the Nintendo Entertainment System, released in 1985. Here is my review for this game... So, about Mario. Since we're reviewing one of his first games, why don't I tell you about the origin of Mario? (If you've been living under a rock for the past +20 years). In 1982-1983, Nintendo released a game known as Donkey Kong. This game is fairly simple, but back then, it was huge. Every console at the time had the port of the game. In the game, you take control of the main hero, Jump Man. Jump Man needs to save his girlfriend, Paulene, from the main man himself, Donkey Kong. Later, the director of Donkey Kong, Shigeru Miyamoto decided to name Jump Man Mario after his office landlord, Mario Segale. (SEGAle...That isn't suspicious at all). Later on, Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to experiment more with Mario, so two more Donkey Kong games were made, one of which Mario is the villain himself. In 1983, the game Mario Bros was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game revealed that Mario has a younger brother named Luigi, and that they're both Italian-American plumbers from Brooklyn. The Mario cartoons go into much more detail about this. And let me just state that this is one of the only two Mario plumbing games out so far..unless there's another I'm not aware of. So what did Nintendo do with the next installment? Created a legend in video game history. Mario may be weak plot-wise, but overall, the Mario franchise is HUGE. In the 80's, there was NOTHING like Super Mario Brothers (1985). Wel... Christmas Craze 12-04-13 05:42 PM |
Not As Entertaining As You Think Christmas Craze...a random game I've found on Vizzed that's Christmas related. This is the third Christmas game review. Tomorrow will be the fourth. Now, this game is very generic, so I thought this would be practice for when I review a ROM hack that has a lot to say about. It's obviously Christmas related, and it's a Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64, 1996) ROM hack. Well, let's see what Christmas Craze has to offer. The title makes this game sound fun, so let's find out...oh, and by the way this is a Super Nintendo game in case the sub-forum didn't give this away. Overall rating: 5/10 Addictiveness: 6/10 Okay, this is the lowest rating I've given other than the game Pong (3/10). You may be thinking why I'm rating the overall rating a five out of ten. Well, this game doesn't really offer much. This is also the same category where how addicting this game is comes into play. Well, let's start with the story. It's very generic. Usually Super Nintendo games have good stories to them...this is not one of them. This game offers little depth for a Super Nintendo game, this game is a complete joke when it comes to difficulty, making this game remarkably easy to speed run, and the other categories are positive, but these are the things I DON'T like about this game. And since this game is very generic and broad when it comes to depth, this game isn't that addicting. This game is same-old as the levels pass. Usually arcadic games with generic stories are addicting because the story isn't so complicated plus arcadic games are fun like Super Mario Brothers (Nintendo Entertainment System, 1985). This game is not one of them. This game sports no special characteristics except a few things like graphics, but nevertheless, this game is rather BORING. Graphics: 8/10 Like pretty much every Super Nintendo game, there has to be revolutionary 16-bit graphics sported by the game. Well, except when I'm playing Final Fantasy II. Christmas Craze has s... Toadette's Christmas Adventure 12-03-13 05:21 PM |
Toadette's Christmas Adventure Toadette's Christmas Adventure...a follow-up to Toad's Christmas Adventure. This is my second Christmas review. In case you're wondering, I will only review Christmas games this month. My last one was Toad's Christmas Adventure. Is this as good as Toad's Christmas Adventure? Well, let's fine out. By the way, this is basically a flip of characters from the previous incarnation. Well, let's see how this game is. The story: 5/10 This is really no different to the past incarnation. You can change the characters and there wouldn't really be a difference. This is basically a flip. In the Mushroom Kingdom, during winter, an evil monster kidnaps Toad. Now Toadette, Toad's sister, must save toad in FOUR, count them...FOUR exciting and very short levels. Now, this story doesn't really specify who or what the monster is. In Toad's Christmas Adventure, it said that the villain was Bowser's evil twin. By the way, in the last game Toad had to rescue Toadette if it wasn't brutally obvious already. This is really the exact same ball game though. There's literally no change to this. After Toadette defeats "the evil monster," Toad congratulates Toadette and wishes a merry Christmas to Toadette..or is it the person who- screw it. Depth: 4/10 Okay, this may seem like a low rating for a Super Mario Brothers hack, but honestly, this is still the same ball game. We have only four levels like Toad's Christmas Adventure, but the textures are completely different. The soundtrack is the exact same too, so there's really no point in this. Like before, this game is really short. The levels are short, this is easy as heck to speed run, and the enemy placement is a lot less crude than Super Mario Brothers. This is HARDER than Toad's Christmas Adventure, but that doesn't mean this is actually a hard game. We have all the Super Mario Brothers enemies here, but with a different texture. Koopas, Goombas, Piranha Plants, Hammer Brothers (Gosh, I HATE HAMMER BR... Read the rest of this Review |
Toad's Christmas Adventure 12-02-13 03:30 PM |
Toad's Christmas Adventure No Vizzed games to play....Toad's Christmas Adventure? A Super Mario Brothers hack? I'll try it...okay, I'm reviewing this hack. Welcome everybody to my review of Toad's Christmas Adventure. This month I will be reviewing festive games. Why not start with a simple game? Toad's Christmas Adventure is basically a hack of the successful Super Mario Brothers released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1985). I really have no back-story here. But now it's Toad's turn to play along his buddy Mario! Let's see what Toad is in for in this game. This game has very authentic characteristics. Let's look inside. The story for this game. Well there's changed text of the girl you're saving, but honestly, you could change the character and the villain and there wouldn't even be a freaking difference. This game might as well be a mushroom saving another mushroom from the clutches of the evil twin of a gargantuan-sized turtle. Basically, it's Toad's job to save his SISTER Toadette. Sisters? I thought they were one of Nintendo's couples. Anyways, remember Toadette? Neither do I. She was in Mario Kart Wii and Mario Party 8 and 9, but that's pretty much it. Bowser's evil twin, yes...BOWSER'S EVIL TWIN kidnaps Toadette leaving Toad to rescue her. Now wait a minute. Can't Bowser's evil twin just kidnap Princess Peach leaving Mario on a wild goose chase to kill BOWSER? Then for once, Bowser would succeed. But then the Bowser brothers would fight over Peach, but anyways, after Toad goes through all the levels, Toadette acknowledges that they're siblings and Bowser's evil twin did all the work and Bowser did nothing. Unlike Toadette, Princess Peach, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom has witchcraft powers. Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story (2011) and New Super Mario Bros Wii (2009) both for the give this away. Peach could have used these powers to stop Bowser, but Toadette has no supernatural powers, so let's not blame her for getting kidnapped. As you can see, this ... Read the rest of this Review |
Zelda II - The Adventure of Link 11-28-13 09:51 PM |
The Review Of Link (NES) Adventure of Link...the second Zelda game of the franchise. A direct sequel to the well known Legend of Zelda made in 1986. Back then, the game was the next big thing other than Super Mario Brothers. Now, the game has become very arcadic. Arcadic, is that even a word? But what did they do to Adventure of Link? Completely changed the formula. There's no bushes to burn, walls to bomb, items to buy, interesting weapons, none of that. Since Link has gotten older, he simply...grew out of his weapons and tools. It's stupid, I know...but I dunno, you think of something. Ladies and gents, we are now in a 2-D side-scrolling adventure. Well...that was..sudden. But apparently Miyamoto or someone else in the development didn't like the idea of a non-linear adventure like The Legend of Zelda. Well, has this game aged well? I guess we'll find out in Adventure of Link, a sequel to The Legend of Zelda. Well I've got a story to summarize... After Ganon's defeat in the last game, years have passed and Zelda is now basically in a coma because of a sleeping spell that was cast on her. Link is informed by Impa, Zelda's servant, that Link is the only destined one to save Hyrule again and awaken Princess Zelda. Now that Ganon is defeated, Link has to go through seven temples/palaces, obtain the treasures, and put the magic stones dropped by the bosses in these weird-looking altars. Now, Ganon's minions are after Link. Not for pity revenge, no, they want Link's BLOOD to resurrect Ganon from his ashes. Huh. Blood references in a Nintendo game...guessing that didn't last on shelves for long. But that's oddly dark for a Nintendo game. Well, after playing Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and the Paper Mario games, I'm kinda used to it (Not that there's blood in those games, it's just the plot and characters that are the problem). But this story is obviously more sophisticated than the last game if this is mentioned. It makes sense that when you get a game over (Aaand, Link has lives... Read the rest of this Review |
Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past 11-25-13 06:45 PM |
Legend of Zelda: A Review To The Past The updated box art doesn't call this game "The Best On The Super Nintendo Entertainment System" for nothing. Although I would prefer Chrono Trigger, A Link To The Past is a great game. I like going back to games I've played when I was young. This one right here was what I spent my chore time playing. Has this game aged well? Is it better than, let's say, Secret Of Mana? Well this game is very revolutionary like that game. When this game was released in 1991 for the Super Nintendo, everyone had to get their hands on it. Now, overall, I'm rating this game a 9.7/10. This game is great. You will find out in this review. Okay, the story. Now, this was supposed to be a prequel to the first two Legend of Zelda games according to timeline, yet in this game, Link is more decked than past incarnations...or is it future incar- screw it. Now, the timeline of this franchise is OUT OF ORDER. I'm not even gonna begin what the timeline is supposed to be. Even though Nintendo released the "Hyrule Historia," the official timeline according to Nintendo, the rant about the timeline goes on. But here's my philosophy: I don't give two dungs about the timeline. I play a L.O.Z. game for the story and not how it affects the timeline. Now, the story for this game is a lot more sophisticated than the last two games. In the Golden Land, there is a golden power known as the Triforce. Many warriors have fought and died to get his hands on it because it can grant any wish. Seven wise men break the seal to the Golden Land so nobody can reach it. Generations later, a wizard named...Agahnim....opens the seal to the Golden Land and puts his magic on it to make it The Dark World. Which is ironic how "The Dark World" looks exactly like The Dark World in the new Thor movie. But anyways, Agahnim...incinerates the king of Hyrule. I know, it's dark but..anyways, Agah-ham- screw it. I'm calling him Jerry for now on. Jerry puts magic on the seven maidens, which have family ties with the seven wise ... Mega Man 2 10-18-13 07:25 PM |
The Man is Mega in this classic! Welcome to my review for... Mega Man 2. The Blue Bomber strikes back in this sequel to Mega Man. The first release of Mega Man was a struggling game by Capcom. *Clears throat* I wonder why. *Looks at box art of Mega Man 1* Plus the level design was NOT as creative as what I am reviewing...Mega Man 2. This game for the Nintendo Entertainment System was a bestseller. This was the first Mega Man game that was actually good. This game has new suits, levels, enemies, and a better North American box art. I hope you enjoy my review for the Blue Bomber's hit game, (A.K.A. Mega Man) Mega Man II. Overall: 8.5/10 Okay, this game is just amazing with its music, levels, enemies, controls, difficulty...it's just all amazing. I rounded all my ratings to get an 8.5 for an overall rating. Now in this review, you will find out what molds its game into perfection. Like I said, this was Capcom's first, actual GOOD GAME. I'm sure the only reason limited collectors bought Mega Man I is because of its rarity as of now. Let me put this in a very good example. At first, computers in society were horrible. They were less powerful than modern calculators. Now, computers are good. Basically, Mega Man wasn't very special, but Mega Man II was a great game with its depth. But anyways, you will find that Mega Man II is a great game behind a unique, yet strange, box. He he he he. Graphics: 9/10 I know, I know. Why am I rating 8-bit graphics a nine? Well the sprites for Mega Man, AND the enemies are pretty good. Of course in the early Mega Man games, Mega Man looks like he's wearing blue panties, Mega Man also has a facial expression that says, "HELLO, WORLD, AND ALL WHO INHABIT IT! i'm bored..." But Mega's power suit is very nifty. Also, I should mention that the sprites for the enemies are better than the sprites for the bosses. Complete opposite in the game Contra. But the enemies...the sprites aren't as good as Mega Man X, but they are crazy go... Read the rest of this Review |
Street Fighter II - The World Warrior 10-12-13 04:37 PM |
It's A Bumpin' Brusin' Classic for the SNES! Ah, Street Fighter. So many games have been made of you. The great Capcom just spews out these games. But the best of the series: Street Fighter II The World Warrior. This version is made for the Super Nintendo with enhanced graphics, fun game-play and great sound. These are some things you'll hear about in this review. This was a very popular game series. It WAS the number one fighting game, but I think Super Smash Bros Universe is gonna take the cake. This game is, like I said very popular. This was actually a parody in an episode of the Disney cartoon, Gravity Falls where Dipper transports a character into the real world. The theme of the game Dipper was playing is the same. Similar screen, different character design, same story, and the same graphics. There has been late Street Fighter games, but they're not as good as the classic I am reviewing. I chose this because it is nice and simple to write about, and I hope you can play this masterpiece some time. Overall: 7.5/10 Okay, this game has a few down-ratings, so I rated it a 7.5. This game is still neat though. Throughout this review, you will find out why I rated this, overall, a 7.5 for the game. I think you will agree with these ratings if you were to play the game. I try to keep the ratings fair, so I came up to an average of 7. But I like the game more than that. So I was a little nice and make it a 7.5. There really isn't much to say in this category, so I guess I will move on to our first REAL category. Graphics: 9/10 Now, Super Nintendo Entertainment System games usually have top notch sprites. This is one of those games. There are rarely any Super Nintendo games with bad sprite art work. In this game, the facial features are very realistic on the fighters. They look very animated though, and that's what really shines about the game. You can't stop admiring your character sprite, yet you've gotta knock out your opponent. The background is dreadfully detailed. Most of ... Read the rest of this Review |
Popeye 10-11-13 08:57 PM |
"Well blow me down!" "I'm Popeye the sailor man!" You may know this notorious character from the famous Popeye The Sailor Man cartoon. They made A Nintendo Entertainment System game out of him due to his popularity! Let's get this review going. This was a big Nintendo hit in the 80's. I should mention that this was supposed to be the original Donkey Kong game. The title screen of Popeye is dreadfully similar, the level design is very similar as well, and Popeye was the role of Jump Man, Olive being Paulenta, and Blutch playing Donkey Kong. People consider this a rip-off of Donkey Kong. I call it a coincidence. :P Overall: 9/10 This was a classic game I used to enjoy as a child. It was very addicting, had great sound, and had good graphics, which is all you will hear in this review. All these ratings in this review will make the average of 9, which is my Overall rating. Since I love the North American box art for the game, I'll rate it: 7/10. You will notice Popeye and Olive falling for each other. Unlike a lot of Nintendo games, the actual SPRITES are on the cover, but the box art is still enjoyable. With the ratings I give (and the experience you'll have if you ever get the chance to play Popeye), you will see why I rate this game a 9/10... I'm surprised this game has NOT been reviewed. Graphics: 8/10 Now I know what you're thinking. 8 is a ridiculous rating for a game like this graphic-wise. We all have our own perspectives here. I like the sprites of Retro games. They are very nostalgic. The graphics in this game are great. Olive looks like Paulenta from Donkey Kong, as well as Blutch looking like Donkey Kong. But Popeye does not look like Jump Man whatsoever. The geography of the levels just look like an Atari 2600-generated game. But the enemies like the vultures in level three look pretty well done. Thou looks very realistic, it's like playing a Super Nintendo game when you see them birds. He he. The sprites for the object that Olive throws... Read the rest of this Review |
Contra 09-26-13 06:14 PM |
Contra: Two Real Konami Heros Welcome to my review of Contra. One of the only shooting games that aren't violent and are actually good. Let's get this review started! Graphics: 8/10 The graphics in this game aren't half bad. They aren't as good as Super Contra because Super Contra is also a Nintendo Entertainment System game, but the graphics for Contra are great! The sprites are well done for the enemies the characters, the built enemies like the robotic cannons, and the background layout. Even better...the sprites on the Title Screen. We have our main characters looking as sharp as ever. If only the whole game could be like the title screen's sprites...as said the graphics for this game aren't half bad! Sound: 9/10 The music and sound effects have to be what I like most about this game and the whole Contra series overall. Especially the Base I music. The sound effects are nostalgic and well fit for what you're doing in the game to create them. With the sound effects and music, you feel like you're playing an actual arcade game. Nope! No token fees here! This game with outstanding sound is yours to keep...well if you have a Nintendo Entertainment System... Replay-Ability: 9/10 Since you feel like you're playing an arcade game, this never gets old. Especially when you're playing with a friend. You get to shoot up them baddies all day with no bore. I remember I was seven when I started playing this. I played it once. Then I got addicted. Got a friend to play co-op mode with me. Never got old. What makes this game even more addicting is you get to watch your friend fail on one of the first enemies. What makes a big role in this being an addicting game is the fact that...YOU CAN'T SAVE YOUR PROGRESS! You can't even save your progress in Contra III Alien Wars for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. So you get to replay all the fun levels over and over... Story: 6/10 Look, I know I should have put this categor... Read the rest of this Review |
Pong (Rev E) 09-01-13 01:31 PM |
Pong. What started Video Gaming So this'll be a short review. This, my friends, is Pong. Being the first video game, Pong was released as an arcade game in 1972. I know you guys think the Atari 2600 was the first to come, but no. Twas Pong that was first. To just say this, this game barely offers anything. I mean, this was created in 1972, so I guess I can't blame them. But.....let the review begin. (Don't ask why I decided to review this game...well I just decided to make a short review to see what happens) Story: 0/10 This is Pong. There is no story here. In the olden days, the story line to video games weren't that great, but this was five years before the Atari 2600, so no story here, unfortunately. There's really nothing to say here, so I guess we'll move on to the next category. Graphics: 1/10 The graphics in this game are pretty explanatory. As seen in the pictures for the title above, it's basically a black screen with white lines. This is pretty much all there is to it. It's weird how in just five years, the graphics could get so advanced. I'm not saying the Atari 2600 had advanced graphics, I'm just saying that compared to Pong, Atari games are stunning like a field of roses. We're off to a GREAT start. These ratings I'm giving aren't very good if I do say so myself. Sound: 8/10 I know it may sound weird that I rated sound an eight. But I actually like the sound effect that the game makes when the ball hits one of the white lines. It sounds pretty nostalgic. But however this is the only sound effect in the entire game. And I'm making it sound like this is like Banjo Kazooie (Big game to explore). There isn't really much more to say here about this... Replay-ability: 6/10 Okay, I can admit that this game is kinda addicting. It gets boring most of the time to play, but when you play it at first, it doesn't seem so bad. It's not great, but it's not bad. It's an okay game. Sometimes it's ... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Wario World Hack 08-31-13 08:56 PM |
We don't need Mario! We need Wario! Hello, and welcome to a review for Super Wario World, as I call it. The ROM hack of Super Mario World made by Lunar Magic that doesn't abuse invisible coin blocks! You know, I haven't really beaten the game, but I decided to make a review for this ROM. This is the second review for this specific ROM, and I thought this was top notch hacking! The fat and greedy Wario is now the main character! Enjoy the following content. Story: 5/10 Like any other Wario game, Wario is really greedy. Now you'd think this would be about Wario rescuing Mona from Wario Ware. NOPE. Here's the story, folks! In Wario's anticlimactic version of the Mushroom Kingdom, Bowser sneaks into Wario's home and steals all of Wario's money and jewelry. Leaving enemies in Wario's house (or those are just angry neighbors that hated the Wario Land series), Bowser goes along to his castle to hoard Wario's loot that was earned from Wario's latest game Game and Wario! Now Wario must confront Bowser in a fight to get his loot back, but challenging levels block him from doing so right away. Eight action packed worlds will be explored to reach Bowser once and for all! However, if you're playing with two player mode, Wario AND Waluigi will do this task together. While Wario questioning Waluigi's existance, the adventure begins! You know, this story fits Wario, but I would still rate it a low number. I thought for a great hack such as this, more depth would be offered to the story than that. At least the game is still good... Graphics: 8/10 The graphics in this game are the same as the graphics in Super Mario World. However, I think it is a good time to explain the textures of the characters. Wario is a colored version of Mario, but has an eyebrow to make it so Wario and also Waluigi have that face that Conker makes in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Goombas, however, the graphics for the goombas are remarkable. They have new sprites in this ROM hack. Koopas now have black, blue, p... Read the rest of this Review |
Mario & Luigi - Superstar Saga 08-25-13 04:11 PM |
Review and Review Superstar Review Before I start off the review, let me say...how can a Nintendo RPG get any better? I am reviewing an RPG for Nintendo's mascot because I thought this specific game met the standards of a five star game. Shigeru Miyamoto, thanks for this game! So now let me just say, let the review begin and enjoy the following content. Story: 9/10 Finally we get an original story to the Mario Brothers franchise. I think Miyamoto decided that they were going to make an RPG, and the ordinary Mario story line wouldn't make this game interesting. But let's get to the story. On a dashing peaceful day at the Mushroom Kingdom with fireworks and cheering, Peach is celebrating the ambassador of the BeanBean Kingdom, a kingdom across the kingdom we know and love (I love saying kingdom!). Peach, sitting on her throne, watches as the ambassador and her servant walks up to her to present a gift. Peach opens the gift with scarce. It's a jack in the box! It spews out noxious gas at Princess Peach which causes her to pass out! Somebody's farts has caused havoc in the kingdom! The 'ambassador' just laughs with his servant and takes Peach while all the toadsjust panic. Now Toad goes to Mario's house to inform him about the news. Mario freaks out and takes his sidekick brother Luigi with him dragging him along trying to put on his clothes. Mario and Luigi run to the kingdom to see Bowser yelling at Peach and two toads. You find out that the gas caused replacing Peach's dreaded C- voice into explosive vocabulary. When she talks, bombs come out of her speech box (Frankly, I would rather have her explosive vocabulary than her voice). The ambassador, which wasn't the real ambassador has taken Peach's 'lovely' voice to awaken the Bean Star to grant the perpetrator power. The perpetrator was Cackaletta with her servant Fawful. Bowser realizes that he cannot kidnap Peach in the condition she's in now. He tells Mario to do something super. They all realize they must travel to the kingdom to ... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario World - VIP and Wall Mix 4 08-24-13 02:27 PM |
How can a Super Mario World ROM possibly get better? Since I love making reviews, and also it's VCS season, I decided to make a review for a game that has top notch hacking. This ROM Hack of Super Mario World is created by Viper. This specific hack is not his first. He's obviously done VIP 1, VIP 2, VIP 3, and what I am reviewing...VIP 4. In this review, you'll obviously see ratings for Story, Graphics, Sound, etc. So now one more thing to say, enjoy the following content! :) Story: 7/10 On to the story of VIP 4. The story is the same as any Mario Bros game, but with a twist. This is going to be briefly weird, so listen up. Another peaceful day in the, let's hope this is right, the Mushroom Kingdom. A character named Boon is the main hero of the land. But suddenly, his friend, a little girl gets kidnapped by a cat that rides Bowser's clown propeller thing (Possibly a long, self explanatory article about it on the Mario Wiki). It is now decreed that Boon must save his friend from the cat and his minions going through obstacles to reach the final battle. Will he do it? You must control Boon through extreme levels to get him to his friend (Not girlfriend this time. Marrying a little girl would be folly). Graphics: 9/10 You probably noticed that I rated the graphics high. This ROM Hack created by Viper is no ordinary Super Mario World Hack with just level change and no textures changed. The textures in this ROM are unreal. As you can see in the images for the game above this review that shows the ratings I gave this game, you see a level with a Yoshi's Island twist. The enemies in this game have been re-textured as whole new enemies. There's lots of levels with sprites from other games like Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. The main character has obviously been re-textured. He basically just has a cat face, and his animations are different. So, big graphical change in this ROM Hack. It took Viper a long time to complete this hack... Read the rest of this Review |
Mario Kart 64 08-21-13 09:24 PM |
Welcome to Mario Kart! VRROOOMMM.... WELCOME TO....well...my review of Mario Kart! In this review, you'll see why I love this game...and you must try it for yourself... let the review insanity begin! Story: 7/10 The story about this wonderful game is about our favorite Mario characters grinding the road in a special Mario Kart game. The gang must race in go-karts in thrilling stages to win a trophy to take home. (Or brag about it to Peach in Mario 64) This is basically the whole story like any other Mario Kart games. These characters will get their tires moving in 16 special courses. They shall conquer them all. They will do so in this game. WELCOME TO MARIO KART. Depth: 8/10 This game as said, very good, offers lots of special requirements. To start off here, we have power ups that will help you on your quest (or race) to get the gold. We have the banana peel. If placed, it will stay on the race track. If someone drives into it, they will slow down, and also swirl around in their go-kart. Now...the green shell. First appearance was Super Mario Bros, obviously. If used, it will go flying on the road. If it manages to hit somebody's go-kart, the same effect from the banana will come to them. The red shell is the same as the green shell, but if you're in a certain radius behind someone, enabled, it will target them and hit them. The spiked and deadly blue shell will hit whoever is in first place. It can accidentally help the player in second place, but you can catch up. The A I for the CPUs aren't that good in this game. The power star will give you invulnerability for a limited time. If you touch a player's go-kart...same effect from the banana peel. You can also go through cars in Toad's Turnpike in the Flower Cup. The triple banana/red shell/green shell gives you three of said item. The fake item box looks like a regular item box. If touched...SAME effect as said. Should you want to easily trick a CPU, place the fake item box in any patch of real item ... Read the rest of this Review |
Super Mario 64 08-12-13 12:19 PM |
Mario takes flight...into gaming history Welcome to my review for a very, very special game...Super Mario 64. I decided to do this review for the sake of reviewing, and I think you will enjoy the following. Let's get started. Story: 7/10 So, the story. When starting the game, you are greeted by a letter from Princess Peach. She has baked a cake for the hero of Brooklyn, (and the Mushroom Kingdom) Mario. You get a view of the castle when Lakitu, your camera man flies over the castle, and greets Mario at the warp pipe where he jumps out into the 3D world...the 2D side-scrolling hero turned 3D. Now Mario must save Peach yet again. Bowser has taken all the 120 Power Stars and hid them, thus trapping Peach in the walls of the castle. Mario now has a new destiny...but has lots of obstacles stopping him. Now begins the hunt for your 120 stars and to save your woman. (BAD CHOICE OF WORDS) Graphics: 10/10 The graphics in this game are outstanding. N64 games have lots of polygons in the game, and you get them in this game. The graphics are very good for Miyamoto's first 3D Mario game. The graphics for Mario are well done, the geography looks amazing, and it looks like your quest will also have good quality. (If you're playing this on Vizzed, the graphics will be HD, compared to the original N64) Like I said, this gave has TOO much polygons. Maybe Bowser turned the kingdom into an educational world to learn shapes! As you can hear, the graphics are a must see in this game. Sound: 9/10 The sound in this game is pretty remarkable. They give you such nostalgia when playing. This is the first Mario game where Mario actually speaks, and this takes Mario to a whole new level. This game has lots of remixes from older Mario game themes (x2 nostalgia). The sounds are so great that...here's the ironic part, in Shifting Sand Land, my mother thought the sound of the thwomps were coming from our home. Pretty funny, huh? Anyways... the sound/music/audio is very good ... Read the rest of this Review |

Super Mario 64 - Cheato 64 Part 2 Welcome back to Cheato 64! Nintendo Power, but has better opinions about games! :) We last left off at our other cheats. http://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=65124 Well, let's get back from where we left off. I feel proud about the last Cheato 64 thread. Let's-a-go! 11. Haunted Book. A real American Hero Location: Big Boo's Haunt That's right. Books are for winners! Want to know why? Because in Big Boo's Haunt, if you run into the flying book and you jump to hit them like you hit blocks in Mario games, they drop blue coins being worth five coins should you NEED them. The 100 coins are easy to obtain on this course. 12. Look! A ! Block! Is This Metal Gear Solid??? Location: Big Boo's Haunt Okay, this one is fairly small. But I decided to add this one in. On the second floor of the mansion, walk to the very right. Across from you, you will see the ! block that contains the Vanish Cap to complete the sixth mission of the course. Just...long jump to it. Not rocket science. Just...this is it... 13. Suicide Is A Good Thing, Kids! Location: Peach's Secret Slide At Peach's secret slide, located inside the room of the 'one star required' door, there is a slide. At the end, there is two stars. One appears if you reach the finish line within twenty-one seconds. The second is always going to be there in the yellow ! Block. To make the first mentioned star a lot easier? Well go on the slide. When there is suddenly no railings, fall to the left. You will land at the end, making it so you can reach the end in 6-9 seconds. 14. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Episode Two Location: Bowser in the Dark World This one is dreadfully easy. There will be a Metal Cap ! Block at the very beginning. Use that, and you can just run through everything. Fire, goombas, any enemy! There really isn't much to say about this. In the DS version of Super M... Read the rest of this Guide |
Super Mario 64 09-07-13 02:57 PM |
Super Mario 64 - Cheato 64 Hello, and welcome to Cheato 64. I will be reviewing ways to do little cheats within the game only for Nintendo 64 games. However, when this series is done, I may do Nintendo Entertainment System OR Super Nintendo Entertainment System game cheats. Anyways, here's the list. I'll try to put them in very good order. 1. Warp Mario Location: Bob-Omb Battlefield So this is a pretty simple and explanatory cheat. I recommend trying these two out on the race with Koopa the Slow to try to get a good record on time. So where all the rocks are, and where the Koopa that drops a blue coin is, there should be a patch of flowers. Should you stand in them, you will warp to the patch of flowers that is located right next to the cannon you can use to blast yourself to the summit, unless you're racing Koopa the Quick. But in this level, there is another warp. On the mountain, at one point, there will be a hole in the mountainside. Should you hop into it, you will warp to the summit. 2. 'Go Mario Go!' Location: Bob-Omb Battlefield This is going to be the last cheat for this course. So. Where the seventh red coin is, if you get them in order, there is a slippery slope. You can just walk up that to skip a lot of the mountain, making things a lot easier. Mario may run slow on the slope, but it's faster than just holding Zed, then moving around with the analog stick up the slope. 3. Cutting Your Corners Location: Whomp Fortress Yeah, that's right, cutting your corners. It is quite literal. If you go to where the thwomps and that sleeping piranha plant is, you will see a whomp across you. If you just do a triple jump towards that direction then dive while you're sliding, you can easily make it to the end to fight King Whomp/complete mission two/get up to the top to get to the floating islands. 4. Who Needs Cannons? Location: Whomp Fortress Okay, this one has to be one of my favorites. Clearly, it has to be. Should you ... Read the rest of this Guide |
Super Mario 64 09-02-13 12:02 PM |
Easter Eggs - Super Mario 64 Welcome to a new series of threads that I decided to do. Here, I'll be sharing video game Easter Eggs. If there is more, and I have not noticed one, feel free to post about it in this thread. Well, let's get the hunt started. Eternal Star Ah, the Eternal Star. Possibly the most known Easter Egg in Super Mario 64. In the courtyard where all the Boo's are, there is a stone statue of a star in the little fountain. If you look closely where all the scribbles are on the star, it'll look like it says Eternal Star. At another glance, it'll also look like 'L is real 2401,' which got people to believe that Luigi was an unlockable character. He may be in the game's memory, but surely you cannot obtain Luigi. Yoshi's Camp Well this isn't really much of an Easter Egg, but I thought this would be a good place to put this. On top of the castle, after obtaining 120 stars, will be Yoshi walking around on the castle. Use the cannon next to the lake to blast yourself, then talk to Yoshi. There is a typo in his text ('Mario! IT that really you?). But upon talking to him, he will give you 100 lives, and a triple jump. When using the triple jump, you will have sparkles come out of Mario, and slightly jump making shortcuts in levels easier. Super Mario Bros Yes, I said it. Super Mario Bros. One of the first Super Mario games. If you go to the end of Bowser in the Sky, you will notice that the stone statues have markings from Super Mario Bros. It features goombas, koopas, and Mario fighting Bowser. If you want some nostalgia to fill you up, don't forget to take a peak at the stone statues on Bowser in the Sky. School of Fish Outside Peach's castle where the cannon is, will be the lake I mentioned. Now, if you swim near a school of fish, they'll swim away from you. But if you stand at where only your feet touch the water, keep jumping, and there will be a 5% chance that a fish will pop out of Mario upon jumping. |
