Super Smash Bros. Melee Review by: tgags123 - 9.8/10
Super Smash Bros. Melee ReviewGet ready to smash it up with 14 characters (and 11 secret characters) from your favorite Nintendo games! This is Super Smash Bros. Melee!
Overall (9.8)
Super Smash Bros. Melee was my favorite game to play on the GameCube. It is a fun game that features 25 characters, 29 stages, and tons of items from a variety of Nintendo games. You and up to three other players or computer controlled characters are placed into a stage and have to battle it out. You can use various punches, kicks, special attacks, and items to try to knock your opponent off the edge of the stage, while attempting to keep yourself on.
Graphics (10)
The graphics in this game are very good. I like the graphics in all GameCube games, but Super Smash Bros. Melee has outstanding graphics. The characters, for the most part, are well detailed and aren't pixely or pointy like a lot of video games. The stages are designed just like the games that they are based off of. Everything is well designed and has the same look as the game that it is from.
Sound (10)
Super Smash Bros. Melee has almost every music track from every Nintendo game. Each stage is equipped with the music from its game. The music that is chosen fits the stage very well. The menu music is very catchy as well. The sound effects in this game are awesome. A lot of games use the classic beeps boops and buzzes for attacks and such. But not Super Smash Bros. Melee. Each attack has it's own sound. Kicks sound like kicks, sword attacks have that sword sound, etc. Every attack (whether it is a normal attack or an item) has a sound effect that fits it perfectly
Addictiveness (10)
Super Smash Bros. Melee is probably the most addictive game I have ever played. I still play it a lot on my GameCube. It is a lot of fun and there is a lot to do and a lot of stuff to unlock. I will definitely play it again, and if once you start playing, you will not want to stop.
Story (N/A)
There is no actual story. There is a background that it is all a kids imagination, the characters are action figures, and Master Hand is the kids hand, but that is all.
Depth (9)
There is a lot of things to do in this game. You can try to unlock every character, try to unlock every stadium, try to get all of the trophies, etc. There are a lot of different game modes that you can play. There is the regular Melee mode, which is just a fight between you and other players or you and computer controlled players; Classic mode, a challenging single player mode where you fight a lot of enemies, complete a bunch of puzzles, and battle Master Hand; Adventure mode, another challenging single player mode were you travel through the different locations from different games (Mushroom Kingdom, Kongo Jungle, Hyrule, Brinstar, Green Greens, Corneria, Pokemon Stadium, F-Zero Grand Prix, Onett, Icicle Mountain, Battlefield, and Final Destination) and fight Master Hand at the end; All-Star Mode, where you battle every character at there stage and you can only heal yourself three times; Event mode where you can try to beat special events under special circumstances; Target Test, where you can try to clear each characters unique "Break the Targets" stage; Home Run Contest, where you try to hit a Sandbag as far as you can; 10 Man Melee, where you try to KO ten computer controlled Wire Frame characters as fast as possible; 100 Man Melee, where you try to KO 100 computer controlled Wire Frame characters as fast as possible; 3 Minute Melee, where you try to KO as many Wire Frames as you can in three minutes; 15 Minute Melee, where you try to KO as many Wire Frames as you can in 15 minutes; Endless Melee, where you try to KO as many Wire Frames as possible without getting KO'd, Cruel Melee, which is the same as Endless Melee, only there are no items, the Wire Frames are harder to KO, and it's easier for you to get KO'd; Tournament Mode, where you and up to 63 other players and/or computers compete; and Special Melee where you can battle with special rules.
Difficulty (8)
I wasn't really sure how to rate this. The difficulty really depends on the game mode and the options that are used. There are 5 difficulties that can be used, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard. The names say it all. If you play on Easy it will be easy, but if you play on hard it will be hard. I decided overall it's a pretty difficulty game, so I rated it an 8.
I definitely recommend playing this game. There is so much that you can do. It is a lot of fun and has a lot of influence from other Nintendo games. If you like Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, Metroid, or any of the other Nintendo games, I recommend trying Super Smash Bros. Melee out.
