Lemmings for Amiga was a classic and entertaining game which had a simple premise but you could have a fun time with it. With the remakes appearing on PS3 and the PSP I decided to look at the best version of the game on the RGR which is the SNES version of Lemmings.
The premise of this game is simple, get a certain number of these creatures called lemmings to the exit by making a safe way for them so they won't die. So you can complete the level, you have to make sure certain lemmings will perform their skills. However the number of times you assign the skills to the lemmings is limited so you have to assign in which order will guide the lemmings. There are around 7 to 8 skills that the lemmings can perform. Like the floaters can fall off heights without dying, diggers or miners cause the lemming to dig. The game also has four difficulty modes and the levels are organized for their difficulty.
A bit of a problem with Lemmings is the control scheme. While it's easy to control the lemmings by making sure they dont kill themselves and get to the end by making sure you click the skills at the bottom and applying it to the lemming by clicking on them. It's a bit of a hassle when there's a lot of lemmings on the screen however you can use the L and R buttons to make your life easier. And a problem that can occur is that Lemmings can lag a bit when you have a bunch of them on the screen however the level design doesn't get repetitive and is excellent for SNES standards. And once you know how to beat a level, you really won't want to try replaying that level again. Also there is a two player system for the game which will be a great addition when netplay comes out (also on the Genesis version)
Lemmings boasts a different song for many levels if not all of them and nearly of them are excellent and are worthy for a listen to if you have the time, and the lemmings will often say a nice quip when they die which is often hilarious.
Overall while I am a bigger fan of the Amiga version due to the whole mouse control, Lemmings for the SNES is a great addition to the puzzle game library which has a couple of cons to it but it's still a great experience to play.
Overall: 9/10
