Gosh, mine's been Frank Zappa's odd face since 2017 at least. I don't even remember what came before it.

Radiohead - 9 (+1)
Rage Against the Machine - 11
Nirvana - 16
Muse - 7
The Strokes - 3
Queens of the Stone Age - 0 (-3) ELIMINATED!
System of a Down - 3

I sorta expected Metallica to win despite suing their fans and recording Lulu.

I've never been the biggest fan of Queens of the Stone Age though I do really like Josh Homme's metal project Kyuss that came before it.

This round is nearing the endgame, so if you know any bands that weren't in round one, please add them to your post and they will be in round two.

Going through Mr. Robot with a friend and it's been a hell of a ride.

I finished the series on my own last year before starting it with him, and there's so many things that make another watch super rewarding.

It's one of the greatest TV series I've ever seen and it gets super emotional despite the subject matter and theme.

It's not nearly as existential or terrible in its current iteration as its heaviest detractors would have you think.

It's also not as capable or all-encompassing as its heaviest supporters would have you think.

The way the stuff works currently is not "simulated brain thinks of answers" but rather "when you give it a prompt, it formulates potentially hundreds of google searches into a coherent sentence structure."

This sort of data processing is very different from what we've seen before. It does have a lot of uses, and will definitely have an impact on data entry jobs. Companies are going to end up finding out the hard way that the tech to have this stuff work efficiently and properly just won't be there for decades to pull off this layoff thing they seem to think is suddenly possible because the market won't functionally allow for it.

Artificial Intelligence is one thing. That's when something is programmed simply to react to a human action in a way that mimics behavior. When you message GPT, the detail and quality of the answer you receive is based upon the information that you give it in your prompt, and when you do that, you can generally see a lot of the same phrasings that you used in your question spit back into the answer. In addition, you may also think of things that are missing from the answer, or may even have contradictory information to what you're trying to gather details on. There is no "authority" on knowledge or information, and AI is neither suited for delivering consensus or determining what is the right thing to convey.

What people often think of when they hear AI is actually what people know as AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence, which is the point at which the centralization of information begins to resemble sentience. Once we reach the point where AGI is even blossoming, I'd get ready to hide from T-1000 units. We won't be there for quite some time, though.

What will happen is an increase of precision and severity of drones and military weaponry. Gone are the days of Obama "accidentally" bombing a wedding every week, here is the age of robot dogs with mounted assault rifles being guided by military engineers, aerial drone strikes that can be delivered en masse worse than carpet bombing, and logic processing that allows for faster movement. Augmented reality tools like Microsoft's Hololens are already being used by the military to create a head-up-display for soldiers and will likely be equipped with some form of GPT.

That's also if OpenAI doesn't go bankrupt over the next few months. The operating expenses for ChatGPT are at $700,000 a day, and it's expected to run them out of business by next year.

A good quote I've heard, but not sure where from: "we've created a technology that's only really good at convincing you that it doesn't suck"

I don't think it's crappy tech, I just believe it's unreliable.

Get what you can from it, it has a lot to offer, but like anything, no matter who makes it, it will never be impartial, it will never be a totality of objective fact, and it will never be intelligent. We need to make sure people, especially the elderly, are able to understand the "tells" to avoid getting scammed, sorta like Blade Runner.

For the sake of not killing the thread, I'll give the answer away, and whoever wants to pick the next movie can do so following this one

The answer was:

Being John Malkovich

Directed by Spike Jonze who is also known for creating Jackass, making music videos for Beastie Boys, Weezer, Sonic Youth, REM, Daft Punk, and that crazy Weapon of Choice video where Christopher Walken was flying.

It's about an aspiring puppeteer who finds a job in a building with a hidden 3/4 floor that's very small. Inside his office he discovers a portal, that when passed through, allows you to see through the eyes of John Malkovich, a famous movie star. Using his skills as a puppeteer, he gains physical control over Malkovich, who is in love with the business partner that is selling access to the portal to tourists, but she is actually in love with the puppeteers wife, but only when she is in control of Malkovich. That's not much of a spoiler, but how the movie begins.

Insane movie.

Whoever wants to go next just make a post!

got a spotify radio on the go because I'm feeling a bit lazy for album discovery today

at the moment is one I've never heard from an artist I quite like, "Kept" by Eyedea and Abilities. Definitely dig this song, will fit well in a playlist.

I just opened 4 Lost Origin build and battle boxes, and two Evolving Skies elite trainer boxes yesterday. The Lost Origin boxes were like $10 off so I got a couple.

I got:

Rayquaza V Alt Art (Evolving Skies)
Espeon VMAX (Evolving Skies) [not the alt art just a regular vmax]
Flareon V Full Art (Evolving Skies)
Charizard Gallery Art (Lost Origin)
Adventurer's Discovery (Lost Origin)
Garbodor V (Lost Origin)
Drapion V (Lost Origin)
Drapion VSTAR (Lost Origin)

All in all, that's 32 packs of cards, and the value of these pulls wasn't that high minus the Rayquaza V Alt Art, though it was nice to actually get some cards. After a while, you come to realize that card karma can be a very real force.

I opened a booster box of Photon Hypernova YuGiOh cards and ended up getting a Triple Tactics Thrust, a secret rare card that's easily worth the price of the booster box (and twice what I paid for the box thanks to a good sale)

Last watched the new episode of Always Sunny that featured Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul and I can't help but agree with an article I saw a bit ago where I'm just tired of these guys appearing as themselves literally everywhere with no intention of working together in the future in an authentic acting capacity. Breaking Bad was great and all but it feels like the only time I hear about Bryan is when he's in a rough-around-the-edges drama that doesn't have the care of Malcolm in the Middle or Breaking Bad, and nobody's been casting Aaron in anything other than that crappy Black Mirror episode he excelled in. Hopefully that changes before he retires.

I used to be really horrible at organizing and my place would normally be a total mess, but the last few months I've had no problem keeping everything sans a few dishes clean.

I just need to relearn the habits of time management that I was trying to improve at. Luckily I feel that may come in time shortly too.

I watched that astronaut episode of Black Mirror season 6. I thought it was a shallow script with incredible acting. The cinematography and suspense added an intense layer of anxiety and horror to a twist you could see coming a couple miles away.
