It's mostly because he is quite annoying, though I personally don't have a problem with Toad and think he is pretty cool. It's just people don't like him since he is pretty annoying.

I hate toad for being an annoying character in general. His voice really "grinds my gears" as they say, and his dialogue in most games makes him out to be either useless or 'Captain Obvious'. Most of the time he doesn't contribute anything whatsoever. And the only kind of mushrooms people like are the ones that make you have a psychedelic trip. Toad can go die in a ditch somewhere, and the world would not mourn in the slightest.

I honestly like Toad. I never found his voice annoying. I can see why people are annoyed by his voice, though.

Captain toad treasure tracker was an interesting game,but didn't make much sense to me. If you are on all these puzzle boards, but you can't jump, how exactly did you get there? Via the Shroom Ship? Who knows?

But but... Toad's voice is amazing. All of those covers of songs he's done are just perfect and totally captures the mood of the song. I don't get it either bruh.

Seriously though, other than the amazing memes and meme videos Toad helped create, he's not the best Mario character by a long shot. They're usually helpless (other than games like Captain Toad Treasure Tracker), and generally annoy me. That voice is pretty awful and ear grating as well :p. Makes for great meme fodder tho.

I personally don't hate Toad, but I can find him to be very annoying, mostly in that Super Mario Bros Game Boy Advance remaster of Super Mario Bros 2. Where he is screaming OKAY!!!! and other goofy things, after a while it can be annoying as hell, but when it comes to the Mario Kart games, I find Toad to be a good character actually lol.

I don't hate toad. I don't like to play has toad just because he doesn't jump very high, or because he isn't the fastest in Mario Kart. What ever it is. It isn't that I hate him but their are other characters better than him.
