Definitely Klonoa. He's very underrated since people think he's a rip-off of Sonic, but his games are incredible; and he's a very cool character. I attached a pic. Miles "Tails" Prower comes in second, and King Of Sorrow (from Klonoa 2) is in third.

My favorites are the retro Castlevania characters, Samus from Metroid, Mega Man X, and Link. If I had to choose out of them for one, I'd pick Link because the adventure genre of video games is what I'm most likely to play. If it were to be between the Castlevania characters, Mega Man X, or Samus, I'd say Samus because she's got more of a *realistic* sci-fi aura to her than Mega Man being just being a robot. Also I think she has more weapon and upgrade options than the retro Cstlevania characters.
