Call me crazy but I don't think that a pirated a video game will work as well. Something would be bound to screw up.

So? Little screw ups is better than hunting for it and then paying an arm and a leg for a copy.

More like "A teenage Russian gamer was arrested massacred the people who attempted to arrest him by mutating himself so far to the point where he is no longer man, but mutant, today after being caught stealing over 200 XBOX360, WII, and Playstation3 games. More coverage at 13"

There's always two sides to support. The people who make the game invest tons of cash into creating it, distributing it, and advertising it. It they settle for less then retail price of like $50 then it will damage their current and future work. I remember when gameboy games went for $70 at wallmart when it first came out. Not sure if someone messed with the price tags or not but that was too much for a game.

Anyway, prices are fine and usually are around $50... I sure hate wasting that much on a game that is beatable in a few days. I would say Zelda for 64 was one of the most worthwhile purchases I ever made for a game since it took me forever to beat.

Yes, I'm sorry for the following profanity, but we're pretty much market whores. Some big company says " OH HEY~! I have a GREAT idea! Lets make a SEQUEL! Cause those ALWAYS SELL GOOD!" Well they don't. And usually what the Market does, ever so cleverly, is make the game, bring the Hype to a level beyond beleif, then market the game off for a normal or way overpriced price. Usually the latter. First player buys it and beats it in 2-5 minutes. Player says: 'Company, what the hell?' Company says: "Screw you buddy, your money is ours now".

Communism is better.

I'm pretty sure 100% of everything in your post Neyro is untrue.

First : Video game sequels are usually so much better than their prevous games; examples: Halo 3, Sims 2 (and soon to be Sims 3), the latest Super Monkey Ball, teh latest Super Smash Bros, Half Life 2...I could go on for a while. I think it's the responsibility of the game Developer to bring us sequels to games we love, that's the best way that they can show their appreciation to the fans is by giving them what they want and most gamers would love to have a sequel to some of their favorite games (i'm still waiting for shenmue 3 ).

Second : I've never seen a game that took 2-5 minutes. I know that was sarcasm but still, I've never actually bought a game that took less than a day to beat, but of course I make sure to buy games that I know I'm getting my money worth. And even for games that do take less than a day to beat, I'm sure they take longer to master and to do everything in them.

Third : Communism has been proven that it doesn't work, it cannot work and will never possibly work. Who wants the government to run their life, control their money, and make everyone exactly the same as everyone else? Not me, I personally like to have goals and to be able to work my way up the ladder and to be able to spend my own money rather than letting the government spend it for me.

Fourth : Sequels don't sell good? I'm pretty sure as the Grand Theft Auto series get newer games, they make more money. And what about Halo 3? That out sold Halo 1 and 2. Most of the time, Sequels do better.

Fifth : Rarely is a game actually overpriced. Why? Because they cost so much money to make now days that they are barely profitable. And if you just wait a few months, eventually new releases drop by a good amount of money. I've seen some really good games that originaly cost $60 a year ago drop down to like $30-40 now. Again, video games cost millions of dollars and games like Shenmue actually lose the company lots of money while others leave teh company to breaking even.

EDIIT: No offense Neyro.

I agree with everything that Davideo just said above^. Couldn't have said any of it better myself.

Personally I believe we are getting more "bang for our buck" so to say out of video games today, considering what I remember paying for games for the N64 compared to what I pay for games for my 360. The 360 games look better, are longer (usually) and have many more features, yet cost about what I would have paid for a N64 game back in the day.

Great post, Dave. Other good sequels are KH2, and Xenosaga 3. Ultimately, the price isn't too bad for games.

Another point worth pointing out is that when a game company develops a really successful game and make a lot off that game, their budget for a sequel is usually much bigger and they are usually more likely to invest more money into that game compared to the 1st.

Also, imagine how much money people paid for an NES game when they first came out, I've pointed this out before but we really are getting a lot more for our money compared to games back then and most of those games back then cost just as much as games now days, and sometimes even more.

It seems that humans are never satasfied and they always need something to complain about. If every new release game was only $30, I gaurantee that it'd be a matter of time before people start complaining about the prices.

And like I've already said, if you don't have the money, don't buy a game when it's released, wait a year and the game will most likely be a fraction of the price. And of course there's always the option of renting games

This might be true in large and global countries like the USA and European countries. But you know, there is other countries where prices of games starts quite high, and stays there.

Here where I live, games come four months after the rest of the world (unless they are imported early - very expensive). Prices range at a very high rate (for instance prices at the moment for a PS3 game is as high as 700 ZAR (About 86 USD). That's quite high for games in our country. And the price drops are also much slower. Thus, in effect, games in this part of the world is quite overpriced.

Granted, it costs a hell of a lot of money to create a game, and thus, prices are bound to be high. But to pick up games for overpriced prices just be with the rest of the world is too expensive. We often have to wait up to two years for a game to finally get a price drop.

And then they bundle the games to keep the price up...

SkyStormKuja: Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy games on Ebay? Or another online store? Honestly, if there's any new games you want you can pay me the USA pricce and I'll send it to you and charge you only US $5 for shipping. I've also got an ebay store which I could put it up on to.

Yeah, well shipping's usually the clencher for online games. Also, many of the games that can be bought in for instance the US are NTSC set, so they don't run on the PAL systems over here. I had that problem with PS2 games a few years back.

Seeing as I don't own any of the 3rd gen consoles yet, I can't really make a judgement call on prices for the games, but yeah. Luckily, even here in SA the wars between the three consoles are pulling the prices down to thin edges. So, I guess I'll just have to hope.

I must admit, I actually don't even own a pirated game, despite the high prices of games around here. I guess though, that's why I only own like...10 games...

Well...in a VERY small scale. To be exact, the only place where one can rent games are in a Video Renting store.

Same here, I intend to search the shelves because my Blockbuster store sells games for $1 and up. I usually bring change and get a game or two. I got Animal Crossing for gamecube for 5.99. I also do a little con artist thing, I buy games from Blockbuster (the 99 cent ones) and sell them at Gamestop for $5 apiece on average. Great way to make store credit.

That's a pretty good idea. Sometimes if I see a really cheap game on clearance at target, I'll turn around to sell it on ebay for a profit.
