First, let me explain "the campaign." MichaelVash7886 has already explained it...

Well, it looks like I've found the right way to get started. Here follows a chat transcript between myself and Gary, a CSR at Square Enix USA:

Chat transcript:
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Gary'

Gary: Thank you for contacting Square Enix Chat Support, this is Gary, how can I assist you?

Jacob Kuntzman: Hi Gary

Jacob Kuntzman: what i'd like to ask about is contact info to submit a petition for -- basically -- a game remake request

Jacob Kuntzman: i've got a collection of people who would very much like to see a remake (not just re-release as in FF Chronicles, but full remake) of Chrono Trigger as well as an American release of Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret Of Mana 2)

Jacob Kuntzman: i'd basically like to know who i can talk to or how i can go about getting Square to seriously consider this

Gary: Send it in the petition to support@square-enix-usa.com

Jacob Kuntzman: ok... and what else would be required?

Jacob Kuntzman: names and email addresses?

Jacob Kuntzman: a certain number of people who would be guaranteed to purchase the product? what?

Gary: That seems fine

Jacob Kuntzman: ok... and honestly, if/when i send this in, would it really be passed upward, or do you think it might get caught in corporate junk?

Jacob Kuntzman: lol

Gary: It would be passed up

Jacob Kuntzman: i just mean, if there's any one certain person i really need to get in touch with, i'd really like to know who

Jacob Kuntzman: ok, great

Jacob Kuntzman: if you don't mind, i would like to post a transcript of this chat to my forum where i am discussing this idea with others

Jacob Kuntzman: oh, and one more question: would the petition need to include a legal statement waiving our rights to royalties or anything to that effect?

Jacob Kuntzman: or can that be handled later?

Gary: The petition doesn't need any waivers or anything in that matter

Jacob Kuntzman: ok

Jacob Kuntzman: thank you very much, Gary

Jacob Kuntzman: is there anything else i should know?

Gary: That's all

Jacob Kuntzman: ok, thanks again

Gary: Thank you for visiting. Please contact us at anytime.

Chat session has been terminated by the site operator.

We essentially need to collect signatures for this. How many? Who knows. I'd suggest, however, contacting GameFAQs and affiliating with them on this campaign. If we can get signatures sent our way through them, that'll give us quite a few. Personally -- because I tend to shoot for high goals -- I would suggest signatures numbering in the thousands... Say...the same number of signatures as an FF game sells? Example: an FF game sells how many copies in the US alone? A couple million? I know that's a lot, but I think if we don't aim high, we won't shoot high.

Square did not give a number for how many signatures they'd want, so I say we overwhelm them

More details later. I'm going to make another thread which will remain stickied, and will contain the actual petition and list of signatures.

Ok if we play our cards right we could get some help from IGN too. If we could buy a domain name it would be a good idea as well. I'm trying to think who else we could ask.

Alright, here's how this will work as far as the actual signatures and stuff.

1. Opening the petition. Before we can open it for signing, we'll have to pretty much agree on and finalize what it says. We cannot edit the petition and its requests after signing has begun. (If we do, people can pull the "I didn't know what I was signing because they changed it" thing.)

2. Once it's open, people have to SIGN the thing. This can be done in two ways. Either they can email me with signatures (as would be the case for people who just surf on in here), or they can print a document I will make available and have people physically fill it out. (The only info needed, according to Square Enix, is the name and email address.) Then, once you have the sheet back, physically filled out by people, then you email that list of new signatures to me by typing in the names and email addresses. (I will try to get a new email address up and running pretty quick here for accepting signatures, probably petition@vizzed.com or something.)

3. Once signatures have been collected, the text document will be emailed to the email address Square Enix specified. Email addresses will be used for no other purpose by myself or by Square Enix.

As for getting help, we just need to get help from whoever we can. Talk to your friends at school... (School is a GREAT place to get other gamers to sign this!) Let them know that they can view the petition and the number of signatures so far by heading to that thread here at Vizzed. Yes, we will be contacting companies (in fact we already have done so). But word-of-mouth is just as important!

As long as the signatures find their way here somehow. What I would do is -- when we agree on this thing and the petition is opened -- direct them to the petition thread in your chain email. Once opened, the petition thread will also include instructions for submission...ie, the email address to send the signature to.

David, would you please create an email address, petition@vizzed.com? Then if you would, just email me the password and how to get to it. I assume you have a webmail on here, like mail.vizzed.com or something. I'll accept signatures through that.

If you can't do that you could create a Gmail account. Yeah we need to try to keep everyone coming here because we don't want 2 (or more) petitions going around.

The petition is now open for signing And petition@vizzed.com is up too. Email there to sign it. See the petition itself for more specific info on how to sign. It's not hard, I promise

Hehe, yeah, but I wanted to be concise.

I'm now working with Zeality of Chrono Compendium and we're going to try and really get this thing some publicity. Next up will be the team from Chrono Trigger Resurrection.

Tho if chrono trigger is redone i want it done as the cartoon. Like how that DBZ: Budokai was done. But since they could proably redo it for next gen system it could look more like the cartoon scenes from the PS version.

I dont see why Chrono Trigger should be remade, its one of the greatest games ever created as it is. I cant support the Chrono remake but im for the SOM2 remake since the game was never able to see US Audiences.

You wouldn't wanna see Chrono Trigger in cartoon form? I mean obviously it was meant for if u've played the PS1 ver.

If you cant support it then you areant a fan. You also don't deserve to play the game. You do realise that without a remake it will be forgotten at the end of our lifetimes. WHens the last time you heard of a 9 year old playing it?

Well Mrmenz, it's kind of like George Lucas going back and doing the Special Editions on Star Wars. (Course now, even the Special Editions look like crap.) He had bigger thoughts in his imagination than what originally came out, due to technology limits.

So he remade it.

Rem, I'm not so sure that I agree about the cartoon form, at least not as cartoony as you're probably thinking. I'd like them to get away from the cartoony look shown on the PS1, and go for the more realistic look, like FF8. But that's just me, personally.

Chrono Trigger is a wonderful game as it is, changing the graphics makes it no different to me. I dont give two s***s about graphics, graphics should only compliment the gameplay.

The game is almost like a form of art to me, You dont see anyone going back and repainting the Mona Lisa do you?

Dude every game in our era is going to be forgotten one day, its f***ing inevitable. I dont see how remaking the game with cartoony/cell shaded graphics so some 9 year old will play is going to spread the experience the developers originally wanted to give.

I appreciate Chrono Trigger for what it is, everything from the dialogue to the awesome usage of 2D graphics. Sure the Cartoonish cut scenes were great on the PS1 version but that isn't why you played the game is it?

Something tells me Square-Enix is too busy making the FF7 fan boys happy as it is to even think about a CT remake.

I think from here on im just gonna back out of this because I dont feel like being flamed or getting in any huge debates.

I support the Chrono Trigger thing, but I dont really know much about Secret of Mana, so I can't say I'd buy it if they imported the game, but I would buy Chrono Trigger if they remade it, I'd buy that for sure.

Do I HAVE to email you or is my post in here good enough? lol, either way, i dont care, it's no big deal to just email you, but jsut wonderin.

Yeah, I'd say you need to do the email. That way if Square REALLY wants to know, I can just show them how to get into the email account and they see that these signatures are coming from all these different email addresses. Just a precaution for an unlikely situation.

Mrmenz, I'm not gonna flame you, but there's a lot more to remakes than the graphics. That's just the most readily apparent difference. I don't expect the FF7 remake to be just like the original with better graphics... I think the story will get deeper, and we will see a lot of connections with Advent Children, and a lot of new things explained.

Similarly with Chrono Trigger, have you SEEN all the theories and stuff over at Chrono Compendium? There so many loose ends on the Chrono series it's insane. Square would likely tie some of these up and make the story even deeper (which its fans love, of course), giving us a few more tidbit connections to Chrono Cross and explaining more about the fate of Schala and how she ended up where she did, etc. Of course, knowing Square, they wouldn't tie up loose ends without leaving some new ones dangling, but that's part of the fun.

To believe anything is inevitable is to give up on everything. If you believe something must end then theres no point in having anything to do with it. The outcome of death to everything is inevitible if no 1 does anything.

But anywayi'm sorry that i posted the way i did. I don't think i really posted correctly as to what i wanted to say. I ddin't really mean to try and flame you.

Don't worry about it, I may have been a bit too rash in my post, ive been a little stressed lately. Ive thought about it a bit and my opinion on a CT remake depends on the final product.

If Square goes about it properly and im sure it could be very good.(and we all know Square can do just about anything).

If you want to sign it, then (and this message is directed to everyone), send an email with your first and last name to petition@vizzed.com

It's cool about how you posted, MrMenz... We can all get kinda passionate about how we'd like to see things treated when there's a game like this that we all love. I just got in a mini-flame war at another forum over what happened to Schala in the Ocean Palace disaster... I'd like to think that, being stuck there with Lavos, she turned right around and they started kicking the crap out of each other, whereas this other guy says she would have sat there just whimpering, basically. I like my idea of Schala better, and I don't wanna see others ruin that. You're probably the same way...don't wanna risk tampering with and screwing up what's great already.
